Here's a thought. Let's say that the Redskins hire Mooch, which I would prefer over Fassel. We know that Mooch used to coach Roy Williams and I think is the one who drafted him (correct me if I'm wrong.) We also know that Roy Williams is not too happy in Detroit and has suggested that he wants to be traded. Does anyone think its possible that Mooch would try to pick him up? I would prefer Roy Williams anyday over Chad Johnson's touchdown antics.

Regardless of who the coach will be, I still say that getting R. Williams is one of the best options for the Redskins. Offer a 5th for him and if Millen plays hardball, go no higher than a 3rd.

typical Redskins fan. rather than focus on the new head coach and how he might work to build this team up from the inside with development and draft picks, the first thought is which free agent or expensive trade then becomes facilitated

the Redskins are not the New York Yankees, they are the new New York Rangers.

every year it is 'bring in the new big names' and yet at the end of the season the results are the same, no title in hand.

That was for this thread in general. This is not a thread. This is one person's opinion. The entire statement should be a post in another thread.
Thank you.

I personally believe we need to let the notion of taking shortcuts go.

While good players, we need to forget about the Johnson's, William's, Allen's, and whoever else might come available from other teams whether through free agency or trade.

It's time for our team to build this franchise up brick by brick.

Place an emphasis on the draft.

fans here have become to acculturated to the idea of the 'quick fix' via free agency, a trend reinforced continually by the front office regardless of the identity of the head coach.

remember the year the club gave up almost all its picks to sign restricted free agents from other teams?

why is that? what does Mariucci bring to the table to make you believe anything consequential is going to change here now that Gibbs is gone and all 'chains' of control are off Snyder and Cerrato? :)

Mariucci to me is not a strong enough personality to maintain his independence in any regard.

Like Spurrier he will be lost here IMO and will look for an escape hatch after a season or two.

I'm sorry if you don't agree with me. This was just a thought. Honestly, I think the Redskins are going to pick up a big name wide receiver no matter who the coach is. I just think that this is a strong possibility if Mooch gets the job.

Well, the short list for me on why I like Mariucci ...

He is the perfect fit for this team and the staff already in place.

Coached as an assistant with Blache under Holmgen at Green Bay.

Ran the WCO ala Zorn.

Developed a young Jeff Garcia and T.O. (ugh)

Is a players coach, more like Gibbs ... exactly what this team needs after the trauma of last season.

He has HC experience, which again, I think this team needs at this point in time (especially with a first time OC and in dealing with the Dynamic Duo).

Has experience with Vinny from SF days

Could help Dan's massive PR failure, as he is great with the media.

And he has a great nickname. :D

I thought with $35 million in bonuses for Moss, Randle El and Lloyd that the Redskins already had enough playmakers at wide receiver

Oh, sorry I think the club meant 'PAYmakers', while I thought they were going to be playmakers.....my bad

Are we going to use that new NFL rule that says if you used to coach a player you can take him w/ you to your new team? Because people here make it seem like it's so easy to get players under contract on other teams. So far we want Roy Williams, Larry Fitz and Chad Johnson. All under contract w/ other teams. Don't you think it may be a good idea to keep our draft picks and groom our own players? In general I don't think it is a good idea to acquire players that are unhappy in their current situations. How long before they are not happy here? We need an organizational philosophy on the type of football we want to play. That way we can draft players that fit our style of play and if there is a coaching change we look for a coach w/ a similar philosophy to the organizations. This will create greater continuity having similar systems w/ each coach and young players drafted and taught our system. A good example, even though a different sport, is the Oakland A's. They use their moneyball system and it is taught at every level of their organization. From the time a young player is drafted he is taught their way of playing. No matter who the manager is they use the same system. That is the type of leadership we need from the top. And it starts w/ Dan.

Chaz, you obviously need to go to one of Dan Snyder's re-education camps for Redskins fans because you continue to believe that free agency and mega-trades are NOT the be all and end all to building a winner :D

Shame.........Shame................. :rotflmao:

If Fassell gets the job we can sign

1. Kerry Collins :puke:
2. Ike Hilliard :
3. Tiki Barber out of retirement

Tiki Barber was definitely correct about Tom Coughlin and the Giants prospects for 2007

Notice the team coalesced and achieved once he was gone :)

I'd PREFER Ocho Cinco, but I wouldn't say no to that.
