if collins goes, how would you guys feel about carr as a backup? i honestly cant think of another option for backup at this point, and he could probably be had for cheap.

He was decent at best with the Texans but with the Panthers last year he was absolutely awful. I dunno if we get the Carr from the Texans I would take him, if we get the Carr from the Panthers I will pass.

Honestly, no. I'd much rather have a veteran back up. He did absolutely terrible with the Panthers. Delhomme did very well the games he did play, so there really isnt an excuse.

I'm blown away at how people would consider this. David Carr is awful and has always been awful and last year he was not even awful.
People will consider David Carr but would call me crazy for suggesting Shaun King, who is 2 years older, has had a much better career than Carr and spent two years in the WCO under Gruden.

I think Collins will be back, but either way NO. I'd rather bring in some young guy with potential like a good I-AA QB or something(Rascati) for a backup than some guy that definitely sucks ass like David Carr.

Yea, someone like that is what I'm saying. I don't really see any possible backups out there that are going to come in and take us to the playoffs if JC goes down like Todd did last year, if JC gets hurt we're in trouble. I'd rather have some young guy with potential that might come in and surprise people and maybe even become good trade bait than some guy we know is going to suck like David Carr.

February-27th-2008, 03:15 PM
I say pass. I was somebody who was defending his talent level when he was in Houston, blaming it on the lack of an offensive line, and injuries to the WRs, but this guy just looked flat out bad last year. The optimistic side of me says that maybe Zorn can teach him something, but the pessimistic side of me thinks he has the same disease that made us get rid of Ramsey. And pessimism is winning the battle right now. I doubt the guy will ever be good in the NFL.

February-27th-2008, 03:20 PM
David Carr isn't horrible... *shrugs* He is 28, has 6 NFL seasons... Completed nearly 60% of his passes for a 74 rating. He wouldn't be asked to come in and save a franchise (like he was asked to do in Houston). Who knows what Jim Zorn could do with him? If the Redskins signed him, I wouldn't be opposed to it.
BTW, last year Carolina was a pretty crappy team overall. His 4 starts were against Indianapolis, Tampa Bay, New Orleans and Tennessee... Those are three pretty good pass defenses at least. You can't really place the entire blame on him.

oh spare me the weak insults routine, hes just a younger backup QB option we could get for cheap. griese is a fine option too, i dont know who youre expecting to pickup for a backup. collins was only decent because he'd been in that system for a decade. having a 37 year old QB with horrible arm strength learn a brand new system isnt a smart idea.

Interesting points, and I'd like to believe you, really I would, but why not go with somebody with more of a proven track record than him? Even if Zorn is hte best QB coach in the league, wouldn't you want him spending most of his time working on JC's flaws instead of teaching Carr not to be afraid to drop back in the pocket?

i definitely dont believe carr is as bad as many of you think. he has never had a good team arouund him. granted he doesnt know how to get rid of the ball or out of the pocket, but he is a legit BACKUP. no one is talking about him coming in and starting.

thank you. youd think some of these people thought i was suggesting he come in and compete for a starting spot. the guy is obviously a huge bust for the #1 overall pick, but to think he cant come in here and play a reserve role is just being ridiculous.

February-27th-2008, 04:05 PM
No way.
Completely lacks football instincts -- he makes Ramsey look like Montana in that department.
One of the biggest football myths the past decade was that the Texans had a horrible offensive line. The problem was Carr, who held on to the ball forever.

Its not a bad idea unless you are afraid that Carr might take Campbells job. Remember new coach wont be or at least shouldnt be playing favorites, unlike Gibbs he will proabley go with the best QB. Carr has a career passer rating of 74! and yet you think Campbell is good with a 77? Jason has more room to improve sure. But you got to also take this into account how bad the Texans were! Carr has been sacked a total of 262 times in 6 yrs! Campbell 28 for his two yrs. Think about it :)

February-27th-2008, 04:27 PM
I'd bring back Patrick Ramsey before Carr. I used to think he wasn't succeeding because he had no line in Houston. Now it's obvious he just isn't an NFL quarterback.

Saw him first hand here in Charlotte. He's god awful. Even with a better line, he still stinks. Some guys are great college players and then for some reason they can't grasp it in the pros. No thanks.

You guys never seem to understand how weak we are at the quaterback position. I remember last year all the talk when Collins made backup positon. How noway he could win a game, some say he wasnt even good enough to hold a clip board. He should have been cut and keep the younger guys how would be better anyway. Yet if the truth be told he walk on this team as a 3rd stringer and was already the best QB on the team! He beat Gibbs boys in the preseason

I dont know... He has shown that he cant play the game in the NFL. He holds on to the ball way too long among other things. If he can be had really cheap and Zorn has the time and thanks he can fix that, sure.

I guess living in Carolina and watching him a few games play for a team that won 7 games last year, ranking middle-to-bottom of the league in nearly every statistical category (offense and defense) makes you the resident expert. In his 4 starts last year, he went 1-3 against Tampa Bay (#1 pass defense), Indiannapolis (#2 pass defense), New Orleans and Tennessee (#10 pass defense)... I would say that while learning a new offense and serving as a backup for the first time in his career (at the age of 27), that he didn't disqualify himself from future backup opportunities. The guy has too good of an arm.
He was great in college, is only 28, played fairly well for Houston (considering what he was asked to do), and is still young enough to possibly make great strides under Jim Zorn.
I'm not saying the Redskins will or should add him. However, if they do it probably means that Jim Zorn thinks he can make a decent quarterback out of David Carr. Carr certainly has more God-given tools to work with at 28 than most backup quarterbacks.

I would go cry in my bedroom for 2 days if we ever did something as stupid as signing that greasy haired cow who calls himself a QB. How can someone ruin the value of someone as great as Steve Smith (check his numbers when Delhomme was playing), and lost his job to a 44-year old AND an undrafted rookie. COME ON!!!

I agree Collins did know the playbook like the back of his hand, but he still had to make the play. There are plenty of QB's that know the play but can't deliver the ball. Collins knew the plays and made the play.

Carr was without a doubt one of the biggest busts in quarterback history. He is terrible. We need Collins to resign, he has shown he can play. I will say this, had our offensive line been in top shape, we would have beaten the Hawks. Our line was just slam worn out in that game. Had all of our starters been healthy, lord knows how deep we could have made it this year.

No way no how. I could tell Carr sucked in year 1 and he'd never get better. He's not good enough to be a backup in the NFL. Not even 3rd string.

Just what happen to this guy? He used to be a great prospect, which seems like just yesterday. Now it seems like hes just a back up for life kind of QB. But I still think in the right system he will be a good QB. I just don't see happening here.

Im just not digging Carr. I also dont like him as a backup. He just hasnt displayed any potential. What purpose would he serve? #2 QB? That would be a disaster. Project? We already know he cant play. No, we need a proven vet backup, and then a young project to work on.

In my FFL we have played with the idea of giving the guy that drafts David Carr an extra draft pick. That way we don't have to listen to that guy moan all season, "Why didn't you guys tell me how much this guy sucks?"
If we can work out some sort of deal like that in the NFL, and still be allowed to drop him before the season starts, then I'm all for it. :D

David Carr as backup? He can back right up out of Redskins park. HAHA Great! If he ever had to play he would ruin any confidence the O-Line has. As he stands there waiting to get crushed and 5-6-7 seconds go by the O-Line would be screaming in their minds " just throw the damned ball." Then after he's sacked 12 times a game idots in the media would be screaming about how bad Carr AND the O-Line played. NO THANK YOU.
