BENGALS BAG ROGERS by Michael David Smith
Michael Smith of ESPN.com is reporting that the Detroit Lions have traded defensive tackle Shaun Rogers to the Cincinnati Bengals.
No word is out yet on what the Lions got for Rogers, who had been on the trade block for several weeks and had been rumored to be heading to the Jaguars, Jets and Broncos, among other teams.
For the Bengals, acquiring Rogers gives them just the kind of big defensive tackle head coach Marvin Lewis has always employed in his defense. The 340-pound Rogers is in the mold of Sam Adams and Tony Siragusa, the huge defensive tackles who played for the Super Bowl-winning Ravens team on which Lewis served as defensive coordinator.

I don't think Cincy has the strength of locker-room needed to get the most out of an underachiever like Rogers. If he went somewhere like Baltimore I think he'd be a monster, because his untapped potential is huge.

No way does Rogers even come close to the play of Sam Adams and Tony Siragusa.

The Bengals traded third-round and fifth-round draft picks to Detroit to acquire Rogers.
The Bengals also reached a three-year agreement with linebacker Dhani Jones.

the potential is there that he could exceed their performances. In some games and on many plays, Rogers looks like the best tackle in football. But all too often, he takes plays off and is lazy on the line.
Maybe a change of scenery will do it for him... maybe Marvin Lewis can figure it out... but I doubt it.

I remember the Skins FO had wanted a guy like Shaun Rogers for years but we could never get him. How in the world do the other GMs grab steals like Rogers and Vilma for mid round picks.

third and fifth round picks, I think we could find our own with those picks. glad we didn't make a move.

3rd and a 5th is a decent deal. Many 5th rounders don't even make the team... and it would be a longshot to find a 3rd round pick that is better than Rogers.

The host on 1530am in cincy is so excited because Rogers is their new NT in a new 3-4 based defense....I think he lost his mind if Rogers is going to be a solid NT for more than 15 plays.

That guy is overweight and overrated.
Remember that hot day at fedex when the lions came to town?
He was sucking wind midway through the 2nd quarter, then he just quit at the start of the 4th.

Of all the DTs rumored to be on the market, that leaves only Robertson and Stroud available now. The Jags are reportedly looking for 2 draft picks for Stroud, similar to what the Jets gave Carolina for Jenkins. That, IMO, is too much for a guy coming off microfracture surgery (and hasn't been able to finish the past 2 seasons).

Don't want to speak for Bubba, but it seems that PFT is doing very little but surfing the web these days looking for news. At least they used to break a few rumors every now and then. Of course, they missed on their fair share too. Now they're doing nothing else but reporting other people's news. Just check Around the NFL if that's what you're looking for.

I won't underestimate him - especially what he can do in a Marvin Lewis scheme. There were comments that even Saragusa and Adams had weight problems, but look at how dominant they were, even more look at how much they freed up the linebackers to make plays. This could be a big factor in suring up that Cincy D-Line and then helping that defense to be a force.

ROGERS TRADE OFF
The trade between the Lions and the Bengals for defensive tackle Shaun Rogers is apparently off.
According to Mike O'Hara of the Detroit News, the deal was not consummated (http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080229/SPORTS0101/802290460/1126) and the Lions will be looking to send Rogers elsewhere. The two teams had agreed that Rogers would head to the Bengals for a third-round and a fifth-round pick.
In our view, that's not bad news for the Bengals. Maybe it means that someone within the organization raised an alarm about the 2007 allegations against Rogers regarding his conduct in a strip club. Though he wasn't charged, is that really the kind of guy that the team should be signing giving its recent history of struggles with off-field issues?

Well, looks like Marvin will have to wait to get his next Sam Adams.
