Interesting decision. I forgot the guy was even on our roster sometimes. I also though DT was a position the skins were going to focus on in the offseason.

I believe Blatche liked him alot and GW didn't. I remember hiring something from Ryan in a paper

i think this was to bring competition to camp plus he probably came cheap

Nothing wrong with keeping another big body, his cap his is minimal I'm sure...besides, every team needs a "Rudy" type player to push the starters in practice. No problems here with this one...

You know whats going to happen right? Since people dont want him, he will have 10 sacks next season..Either for us or another team.

Seems as though the team is doing exactly what it said it's doing with this move. Providing depth. And it's doing so with one of it's own.

Sorry, but he's a waste. Our money could have been spent better on another DT rather than this bench-reserve DT.

Boschetti must be an inspiration at practice, because in 4 years he has never done anything on the field of play. He doesn't even have a single sack to his credit in exhibition play, let alone the regular season.

And when the Redskin defense was terrible in 2006, he couldn't even earn playing time then.

My only complaint with him -- if he is not good enough to get on the field -- is that he takes up a valuable roster spot where someone else could develop.

He doesn't provide depth if he isn't good enough to play.

Why do we keep bringing this guy back? He's done absolutely nothing and is a waste of a roster spot. I'd rather have an extra kicker for kickoffs.

he must have had a great pro day.... i'm not sure what value he has, maybe they just need him for camp..

"Boschetti joined the Redskins as an undrafted rookie out of UCLA in 2004. For his career, he has played in 19 games, with two starts, and logged 15 tackles (eight solo)."

That pretty much says it all. He's played in 19 games over 4 years (64 games), and not due to injury. I believe he was inactive for most of the games this year as well. He'll be another guy that'll have to compete to make the final 53-man roster. No big deal.

Man this guy clings on better than Ade Jimoh did. At least Jimoh was impressive on special teams and occasionally saw action as a 5th DB.

The last time I remember even seeing Boschetti do anything was in the Seattle playoff game in 2005 and he did ZIPPY. Just send him packing already.

I'm sure he didn't cost a whole lot to keep. He's a big body, a hole plugger, be nice if he could ever become a Dave Butz.

He is a hard worker, he hustles, he adds depth to the team. At worst: he is cannon fodder for the summer camp practices. You need 53 bodies. He is #50-55 on the depth chart. With an emphasis on the OL this year, he may have an outside chance.
But why the hate? He works hard. Give him a break.

A lesson in not believing everything you hear. Vinny said they were keeping Griffen, and with Golston and Montgomery on the roster, along with Boscheti now, and Daniels moving inside on passing downs, we have 4.5 DT's on the roster. There is no room to bring in anyone else, no matter what Vinny tries to peddle about needing a pass rushing DT.

What a waste of a roster spot.

I don't know about GW, but it's been documented that Blache loves his work ethic and how the guy just never quits.

I'm sure this is vet minimum with a small bonus at most. I doubt this deal would mean we're married to Boschetti for any longer than August for sure.

Not a huge deal maybe can provide some type of depth but little at best

March-12th-2008, 10:59 PM
I don't think he made the team last year, what's the big deal?

DL competition is probably going to be even MORE fierce this year. If he couldn't cut it last year, he won't this year.

But I'm cool with giving him a shot. We'll be drafting the player(s) that will take his position this April.

This guy somehow weasels his way onto the team every year and proceeds to do nothing. Quite baffling really.

Why do ya'll act like you don't know squat about teams.Boschetti keeps making the roster or practice squads because he won't quit.He is what we want from all our players, they just have more talent.

I heard he is great in the locker room and even better on the practice field. He may never have any tangible stats but he might be the guy that keeps a Montgomery motivated when it's not going right.

bulldog
March-13th-2008, 01:55 AM
that's great, but at some point you would hope the team is acquiring TALENTED players that also have the ability to motivate THEMSELVES to work hard and perform at a high level :D

Somebody has to be the 9th DL on the 53-man roster. If you are lucky you don't have many DL injuries and he doesn't play much.

Boschetti works hard and has a good attitude. He's not the greatest DT in the world but the few times I've seen him play he was fine. He does make plays when he gets in the game and he rarely has an awful play. He knows where he is supposed to be. He deserved to make the team last year because he was the ninth best guy. There is no shame in that.

One thing he does not get fair credit for is he plays the absolute worst position in football. I've seen him line up next to the kicker on the kickoff team. Wedge-busting is an extremely dangerous zero-glory job that someone has to do.

Quite likely he won't make the team this year but maybe he will, especially if we have injuries. He has earned the chance to try.

Yawn...Don't really know why he's stuck around. Good kid, but hopefully only camp fodder.

What dirt does this guy possibly have on Vinny or Dan. This guy has only played a play or two more than any of us of the past few seasons. Horrible waste of time and money!

It's funny - I was in the doctor's office yesterday thumbing through an SI and I happen to come across a couple of paragraphs mentioning Ryan. The article stated that Ryan has played a big part in mentoring Monty and Golston and the coaches liked him quite a bit. I do happen to remember a couple a nice plays he made in 2006. The game was forgetful however - it was the Titans game when Travis Henry killed us. Ryan made a couple of nice plays in the backfield for losses the few times he was in.

It is nice to read that Boschetti has taken on a mentor role for the young players.

Many players aren't always willing to do that, thinking that they will be mentoring their replacement.

It is also amusing to see the ES crowd do their usual routine of making a mountain out of a molehill like it is a BIG DEAL the Redskins signed this guy.

Boschetti probaly cost practically nothing to sign in salary-cap terms, and if Washington decides to let him go before the season starts, then salary-cap wise, he'll probably cost nothing to cut.

It is win-win for the Redskins.

Also, I SERIOUSLY doubt that signing Boschetti is going to stop the Redskins F.O. from looking for a pocket-collapsing DT in the draft.

I believe that DT (as well as maybe a DE) will be a priority in this years draft.

For those of you who are completely dismissing Boschetti, I am sorry to be the one to inform you that you lack the ability to properly value NFL talent. He is worth every penny of his min contract. I don't understand how a guy who makes the minimum and hasn't even made the roster is a waste of both money and a roster spot. Especially when he has proven to be a reliable fill-in and good STer, which is exactly wht we need from the #5DT. You guys are just making yourselves look ignorant and uninformed.

Why all the hate for an undrafted guy we have brought along. We are proving to keep a good defense together. I hope he can play a little better and be a sloid spot duty guy for us.

This is a good move.

Peregrine
March-13th-2008, 08:50 AM
If it isnt a flashy signing, some people just arent interested. They believe a team should be composed of 53 Jared Allen's and Roy Williams, all playing for the minimum.

There are 53 players on an NFL roster. 22 are starters. When you get down towards players 50-53, you get players that generally dont play unless some injuries happen. If you cant understand that...well, im not particularly surprised.

Most of the DTs in FA that were any good are gone, could we still draft one sure? But what if we don't get one in the draft? You got to have some depth. This is not a step back or up, its a stop gap.

People need to look up the rule of 51 (salary cap). Ryan is a good guy, and doesn't cost us a dime, we don't have to be at 53 so he's not taking a roster spot. All he does is bust his tail at practice, and does what you ask of him. He's happy with his role. He knows he's not a starter, he's greatful he gets to suit up for the game he loves, thats more then most can say. Given the choice of Boschetti or B Lloyd, give me Boschetti any day of the week.
