I saw a thread posted about favorite metal band...so I was wondering everyones favorite band/concert they have been to...

i'll start with Bands--- 1.) Dave Matthews 2.) Tom Petty 3.) Jack Johnson 4.) Allman Brothers -->Bela Fleck, Old Crow Medicine Show
not top 5 but Bela Fleck is one of the most talented groups of musicians all put together (the bass, sax, and banjo solos are ridiculous...a must watch/listen if you haven't)

Concert--- Bonnaroo '05...all my favorites besides Petty...some of the greatest shows I have seen from these bands
2nd (Tom Petty at Merriweather with Black Crowes)...great opening and continued through the night with all the songs you could imagine

Fugazi at the peppermint beach club in '92 or '93 (can't remember) was the best show I've been to.

Aerosmith at Verizon (F.K.A. MCI) Center in 1999, I believe. Best one I've seen.

Rush's "Vapor Trails" concert at Nissan had an astounding second set.

Bonnaroo 2004, The Dead killed. Dave Matthews did pretty well with a newly-formed band + Trey Anastacio.

The Dead would be nice to see...Dave ended up playing with Robert Randolph and Warren Haynes...no words to describe that

Have'nt been to to many concerts in my life but this friday I am going to see Kid Rock in Reading, PA. I am a big KR fan and I am getting more and more excited as the days start to countdown. Has anyone ever seen him live?

Ah yes, Haynes stole the show in '04. Got on stage with The Dead and Dave. He fit in amazingly with both. He, along with Derek Trucks are two of my favorite blues guitarists of present day.

The best show that I have been too was Porcupine Tree. They played for 2 1/2 hours and took one five minute break. It was incredible. They were pretty much flawless, plus they played songs that are not on any of their albums. It was a good time. One of the few shows where I didn't feel the need to get intoxicated.

The second best was Pantera, White Zombie, and Eye Hate God. What an incredible show that was.

The Killers @ the patriot center last year. I've seen over 40 bands live, this was by far the tops.

Page & Plant in Cincy in 1995 - as close to Zeppelin as you can get at the time. Plant sounded like he was 25 again and Page was hitting the riffs on Rock & Roll like it was '73.... they had about 30 musicians from the Cincinnati orchestra with them as they played Kashmir for almost 25 minutes to close the show.

Fave concerts: Tina Turner @ the Verizon Wireless AmphiTheater in Va Beach, The O'Jays in the same venue, Ashford & Simpson @ Scope in Norfolk many moons ago when I was young and in the Navy:D , Frankie Beverly and Maze @ the Hampton Coliseum years ago, Luther Vandross all 3 times that I saw him.

Fave Bands: Earth, Wind & Fire, Fleetwood Mac, Boston, Foreigner, Eagles and Rolling Stones.

Man, I have no idea. My answer to both questions could change daily. A few favorite shows off the top of my head:

Yonder Mountain String Band - Lyons, CO 9/12/03. Was supposed to be my last show in CO. Got back stage pass, the band paid tribute to Johnny Cash and John Ritter, and this is the only show I've attended that has been released as an offical CD.

Phish - Camden, NJ 7/3/00 - Nothing like rain, an ampitheatre, fireworks, and KICK ASS Bathtub Gin. :)

Eddie From Ohio - they are a great local county/fold band. They sell out Wolf Trap periodically, but my favorite are the inside shows they do for smaller audiances (may 1500 people).

I loved seeing Inidgo Girls in concert. I didn't realize how different a lot of their music is from song to song. Nice.

Still the concert that I liked most was Tracy Chapman. Maybe it's just that I like her music, but she is a great performer too.

U2- ZOOTV, 1991 RFK... amazing show. I've never seen anything like it.

Ramones- Wax Museum, sometime in 1982.. not sure when it was, but oh my god they about blew that place up. Never saw a band with the energy that the Ramones could create.

Bruce Springsteen- each and every time I've seen him, the man is an amazing performer.

Paul Simon- Graceland tour, 1990 or so.. Beautiful show. Ladysmith Black Mombazo was worth the price to see.

David Bowie- 1988 at Meriweather Post.. Adrian Belew on guitar. Very cool indeed.

That's my top five

My two fav concerts of all time would have to be

http://www.secondsounds.com/graphics/extreme_pornograffitti.jpg

Saw them during this CD's tour and they were so tight and sounded pretty much like the Cd live!!

My second which doesn't mean they are second just my second selection as both hold the first spot!

http://www.hardrock80.com/groupes/STRYPER/Soldiers%20Under%20Command.jpg

This tour was awesome!! Saw them 3 times, different venues and still rocked out!! Their next tour was a tie To Hell With The Devil, but the Soldiers under command tour was really, really good!!

Back in 1984 I had the chance to see the FIRM with Jimmy Page and Paul Rodgers , Chris slade and Tony Franklin in the front row sitting right in front of Jimmy as he pulled out his violin bow are jammed to his solo. An amazing concert best part the tickets only cost $14.50 plus a few hours standing in line to get them.

Hey Bang, I was at the Bowie concert at Merriweather. Unreal show.

I saw Brian Wilson with a band and orchestra sitting at a table in front of the stage at Chastain Park in Atlanta around 2000. They played all of the famous Beach Boys songs plus tons of other stuff, then took a break, and came back out and played the entire Pet Sounds album start to finish. That would be my top.

A close 2nd would be the first Lallapalooza at Lake Fairfax in 89(?). Butthole Surfers. Rolllins band. Ice T with Body Count. Nine Inch Nails. Souixee and Banshees. Living Color. And Janes Addiction.

Other than that, I'd throw in-

Lords of Acid at the Masquerade in Atlanta sometime in the mid 90s. They went on stage at 3 in the moring and played til after 5. Crazy night.

Janes Addiction with Flea at some aircraft hanger in Atlanta around 97.

Every Music Midtown festival in Atlanta. From Dylan to The Stone Roses to George Clinton and Pfunk to Tony Bennett and Willie Nelson. Amazing variety of acts every year. Too bad they stopped them.

I'd also give honorable mention to The Jesus and Mary Chain at the Satellite Ballroom in Charlottesville around 89. Not that they were anything special, but the band they had opening the show blew everyone in the audience away. I remember looking around at people with their mouths open just knowing they were seeing the next great thing for the first time. I bought the bands album at the table in the back of the hall. Pretty Hate Machine. NIN before anyone knew them.

He opened for Eminem a few years back, it was pretty good. Certainly he had the benefit of it being a hometown crowd.

Michael Jackson (when he was still Black) Capital Centre 1984

Prince Purple rain tour Capital Centre (1984)

Went to both of those, I waited in line for tickets overnight for the MJ concert. Something I would never do these days. Good times and great shows though.

Van Halen a few months back was great.
Janet Jackson with Usher as the opener.
David Bowie, I was in the crowd that night too guys.
Motley Crue a few years ago, but an amazing show.
Eminem in Detriot his only US show that year.

I've been to a ton but really missed out on Sting, and a few others over the years.

Sting sucked in concert.

The Police this past year though were phenominal.

My college roomate went to that show and I still remember his rave review. He was a huge J&MC guy though.

I've been to so many metal shows I can scarcely remember them all. A few that stand out:

Meshuggah's first show on US soil at the Milwaukee Metalfest. The sheer anticipation was unparalleled.

The Gathering's appearance at MM, possibly also their first US appearance with Anneke, but I can't swear to it. I literally wept it was so amazing and beautiful...her voice is unmatched on this planet.

The Testament/Forbidden outdoor show at Wilmer's Park, MD. Crazy atmosphere...guys swinging from the stage risers, some dude next to us getting stomped, complete mayhem.

And without question, the At the Gates/Dissection show at Jaxx...unbelievably incredible performance with quite possibly two of the greatest metal bands of all time. I'll never forget reaching out to shake Jon Nodtveidt's hand after the set and he gave me his guitar pick. Freaking GODLY...

I haven't been to many concerts...Pepper was really good down here in Tallahassee, I went to a couple HFStivals back in the day that were really solid...

I think my favorite concert will end up being Lupe Fiasco/Kanye West/N.E.R.D./Rihanna/CRS in Atlanta this May.

Paul McCartney - RFK in 1991 or 92. That was really cool too.

I've seen Arlo live 4 times: twice when I was in elementary school, this past summer at Wolf Trap with Richie Havens, and again in late '07 at the Birchmere.

He has never put on a bad show I've seen...

Feist and Grizzly Bear @ the 9:30 last May,

Andrew Bird and Dosh @ the Black Cat in '05,

Been to a lot of good shows and hard to pick. Here's a couple. Muddy Waters at the Cellar door, Steely Dan 4th row Ice palace, Foreigner at the Bayou (private party), ZZ Top and SRV merriweather post , SRV and Jeff Beck 5th row Cap centre, ZZ Top and black crows 6th row Cap centre, G3, ZZ top and Pointblank SD sports arena, Rolling Stones voodo lounge Tampa stadium. HAWKWIND - The Space Ritual Tour. England. Somewhere around 1975 - 76 I think.

I was really into these guys at the time. The Space Ritual was a concept piece where the soundscapes, synthesisers, sung and spoken word, light show, drugs and the occasional naked woman came together to form an indelible impression on an 18 year old lad. And for you Metal fans,... pre Motorhead Lemmy on bass.

Ah, good times! :D

I've seen some pretty great shows over the years. Radiohead in Atlanta a few years ago was great. Pfunk at the Mosque in Richmond New Years eve back in the 90's was always awesome. I saw Run DMC with LL and the Beastie Boys at the DC collesium in the early 80's when I was about 15 or so. Tool at the Tabernacle in ATL was great as was Cake at the same place. I've seen James Brown play a few times at some pretty good venues. My all time favorite though was Bootsy Collins and the Rubber band at the Flood Zone in Richmond back in the mid 90's. That was the funkiest, heaviest, most thumpin' show I've ever seen. Bootsy blew up the sound system, literally. That show was awesome.
