A flood of info about the game is coming out now that reviewers have had their hands on the latest build. Forget GTAIV. This is going to be one badass game. 1080p 60fps with a 7.1 PCM Lossless soundtrack? Awesome.

You thought Gears of War looked amazing? Think again. Metal Gear Solid 4 will blow you away with its ultra-detailed characters and intricate environments, painting some of the most gorgeous graphics seen this side of Crysis. In motion, the graphics look so realistic that your eyes begin to register the visuals as a movie rather than a game. From what we saw, MGS4 puts its 50GB Blu-ray disc to outstanding use."

The sound: MGS4 has some of the crispest, clearest sound effects we've ever heard -- the booming gunshots will make your hair stand on end! The Hollywood-style soundtrack is also predictably fantastic, and Snake's raspy voice sounds more desiccated than ever. GamePro editor Sid Shuman went so far as to say that MGS4 has "the best sound I've ever heard in a game."

Without giving away too much more, I'll say that all of these factors coalesce to form one of Act 1's most compelling segments -- a tense indoor battle alongside Rat Patrol against the Haven troopers (aka "frogs"), elite female warriors with enhanced agility and high-powered weaponry. If you're accustomed to MGS enemies offering little in the way of A.I. surprises, these ladies will leap, flank, and grenade you to oblivion. You'll certainly have to master some new tactics to deal with this menace, but they're far from being considered "bosses." When the game's ready to start throwing actual bosses at you, you'll be floored.

I'm considering trading my current PS3 in for one of the gun metal bundles:

I am sorry but it has to be said the PS3 BLOWS the crashbox away.

There are countless reasons why, but this game is going to prove it to more non-believers.

I have a 360 and love it . . . despite what many of you haters will say I think it's an amazing gaming system.

However, I will be purchasing the MGS4 PS3 bundle the day it comes out in June. MGS is probably still my favorite game of all time and it will be nice having the Blu Ray player. Any game that comes out for both systems though I will probably buy for the 360 due to Xbox Live and the games usually running better on 360. (Madden, NCAA, etc.)

No games blow it away . . . yet. They both have great games but MGS4 might be the first game where people like myself who have really enjoyed their 360's splurge and buy the PS3. It should be amazing . . . I hope there is more action and less cutscenes than MGS2 though.

Yeah, I beleive this is the year that PS3 takes over.
All the GREAT titles are coming out finally.

I just bought a PS3 yesterday in anticipation of GTA IV and Metal Gear Solid 4.
I LOVE those games. I've been holding out on buying a PS3 due to the price and the game options. But now things are starting to roll.

At the moment, I'm playing Call Of Duty 4 and Assassin's Creed. AWESOME graphics in both.

3 was awesome! The story takes place in the past so you are very limited in options for seeing your enemies such as GPS maps and such. The art of stealth is highly enhanced to beat each level. I loved it.

No, there were discussions with the shelf life since systems usally come out every five years.

Its been the trend every since video games systems have been out. In two years the 360 will be at the 5 year mark.

I'll have to find a copy of that or download it (if Sony offers that like Microsoft) once I get the PS3 in a month or two.

Also the 80 gig isn't coming off the market . . . at least until the MGS4 bundle sells out.

That is true. They have discontinued manufactureing of the 60 or 80 SKU, due to the fact that they weren't moving very well.

The prices hurt the unit.......

Uncharted was a hell of a fun game that will probably turn into a series.

Ratchet & Clank: Future Tools of Destruction (another PS3 exclusive) is also one of the most fun games(and best looking next/current gen games you will find).

Resistence: FOM was pretty cool and the sequel is looking to up the ante....

The entire "PS3 has no good games" hype is totally bunk. It's not 2006 anymore.

Pretty much! Totally agree.

I'll admit, I waited over a year to buy a PS3 b/c the games on the market didn't look all that appealing. Final Fantasy XII (for PS2) was originally intended to be designed for the PS3 but towards the end of development, they recompiled it for the PS2 due to poor sales of the PS3. FFXII has moments where it slows down a bit due to the hurting it does to the processor. Had they just put it out on PS3, the sales of the system would've gone way up, IMO. FFXIII is looking to be quite an incredible game. Can't wait!

Fall Of Man is bad ass. I haven't played it but I've seen a friend of mine play it. Looks really cool.

MGS crashed Amazon  (http://www.n4g.com/industrynews/News-154393.aspx)

Well, good job folks. We told you that amazon.com would sell the Metal Gear Solid 4 80GB bundle today. And you all listened. Thousands of you swarmed the site, got rid of their inventory in seven minutes, and best of all -- you killed amazon.com.

Demand for the Metal Gear bundle was so high, that the popular online retailer simply couldn't handle the traffic. If this is the fervor in just one store, imagine how well the bundles are going to sell when they release nationwide next Thursday.

From the opening videos to the end credits, the attention to detail throughout Guns of the Patriots is astonishing, setting new standards for production values in games.

The difficulty in writing a review of this magnitude is the constant struggle to remain objective. There is so much good to say about this title and so very little negative that its one-sidedness might seem a bit unfounded to the reader; I assure you I will do my best in giving as balanced a perspective as I can without giving away too much information. The game undoubtedly captivates from the moment you place the disc into the Playstation 3 and does not let up for its thirty hour duration. Following an opening that literally left me rattled, I found myself having to put the controller down for a few minutes in order to properly gather my thoughts. Like any title affiliated with the name ‘Kojima’, Metal Gear Solid 4’s comprehensive story, exotic art direction, Hollywood-esque cut scenes, memorable characters, sharp dialogue, and overall quality surpasses anything yet seen on the Playstation 3, and quite possibly the past decade.

http://kotaku.com/5012898/famitsu-gives-metal-gear-solid-4-perfect-score
This is still unconfirmed as we haven't yet seen review scans, but word has it that Japanese magazine Famitsu is giving upcoming PS3 title Metal Gear Solid 4 a perfect 40/40. Famitsu has only done this seven times. Those other "perfect" 40/40 titles are The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Soulcalibur, Vagrant Story, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, Nintendogs, Final Fantasy XII and Super Smash Bros. Brawl. This makes MGS4 the first PLAYSTATION 3 title to get the coveted 40/40 score.

Eds Note: This has been confirmed as true.

Gears of War is 8-10 hours. Halo 3 can be beaten in 7. Call of Duty 4? 6 hours. The Orange Box (HL2, Episode 1 & 2, Portal) is a combined 30 hours.

30 hours for a shooter is a really long game. Keep in mind that visuals rendered at 1080p and a 7.1 uncompressed PCM soundtrack helped fill a considerable amount of the disk.

You're comparing the length of an RPG to a shooter. Apples and oranges.

As far as the length of CoD4, Halo 3, and GoW............those are gameplay times on default settings. 30 hours of actual gameplay, from start to finish, is an incredibly long time for a shooter.
