Four Game series

Game 1: Washburn vs Trachsel
Game 2: Batista vs Loewen
Game 3: Bedard vs Guthrie
Game 4: Hernandez vs Burres

LETS GO O's!!!!!

TheDoyler23
April-4th-2008, 06:20 PM
Washburn is 6-3 with a 4.46 ERA against the O's for his career. He was 0-1 with an ERA over 8 in 2 starts against the Birds last year.

O's roster is batting .291 off Washburn, and Jay Payton has 8 hits in 20 AB!

Trax is 0-4 with an ERA near 7 against the M's! Yikes. M's bat .266 as a team against him with Ritchie Sexon putting up a 1.121 OPS in 13 ABs.

TheDoyler23
April-4th-2008, 07:29 PM
Trax pitches a clean first against the M's, only allowing a bloop single to Lopez. Lopez stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error by Hernandez. The throw hit him, so it wasn't really a deserved error.

O's get 2 on with 2 away but fail to score. Mora was nipped by a pitch and Millar hit a rare single to right. Huff K'd on a frisbee slider to end the inning.

Trachsel seems to be working quicker than he did last year

This is embarrassing. I'm watching the Mariner's broadcast and they're picking on the attendence on a sly. First, they do a scan of the entire park and show all the empty seats, then an inning later they say its 60 degrees at game time and it's a pleasant evening, translation, there's no excuse for this beautiful stadium to be this empty.

Just wait till he gets into a jam. Then its 17 consecutive pickoff throws.

Trax has some pretty good movement on his 2 seamer. Its 87 and looks too damn hittable, then its popped up or nubbed around the if.

32 pitches over 2 innings for Trax. Nice.

I mean..we SUCK! I can't think of one reason to go out to camden....Wizards are in the playoff hunt, as are the capitals....and now with the nats new stadium...going to an O's game is a waste of time and money...at this point. I'd rather save some money and attend a more entertaining sports event

Yeah , they had a new "All you can eat" plan that's been going on at the Park for the 2nd year now. Several of the other venues which struggle attendance-wise have started using this to draw fans (Marlins , Rays , Royals , etc)

Anyways , 1-0 O's.

TheDoyler23
April-4th-2008, 09:27 PM
Huff slams a double off the wall in right center, Millar to third.

Don't have a hyphenated name, SMITH. That's what you get!

Excellent win. All-around contributions. Good defense(double plays, Mora at third, Jones running Beltre's fly into the gap). Pitching was good. Trachsel typical good control, other than the one he left over the middle to Beltre. Bullpen, other than Aquino, money. Sarfate just needs to work on his accuracy and develop a breaking pitch. Hitting, wow. I've said this before, this lineup has potential, make no mistake about it. Everyone can hit, other than Luis Hernandez. Winning record! Let's make it three in a row tomorrow.

Loewen looks a little wild and uncomfortable on the mound, but K'd Ichiro and Lopez flew out.

TheDoyler23

Yep. Loewen was a little too wild out and IN the strike zone. Made two bad pitches for 2 run homers and its see ya. He looked a lot like a guy who missed 10 months. Hopefully he can work things out on the fly.

2 in scoring poss, 0 outs. Let's break it open.

Luke walks on a 3-2 cutter that was OHHHH so close. Bases loaded. 0 outs, new pitcher coming in.

Hernandez lines to left, too shallow to cash in Millar. 1 away.

BRob wreaking havoc on the bases, stealing second and taking third on an error.

Roberts was tentative on Mora's grounder, where he probably would have scored. Then Roberts gets run down on Markakis' tapper (going on contact). Add in being thrown out stealing third (terrible call) and another play at the plate, Roberts has been tagged more than his share today.

24.4 years old on opening day 2005DOB:Nov 29, 1981Bats - R; Throws - R Signed as a 17 year old UFA from Venezuela.

Quiroz signed young and was progressing through the Jays system without showing much with the bat. Then in 2002, at High A, Quiroz power developed, he hit 12 home runs and 28 doubles. At AA in 2003 Quiroz stepped it up more, hitting 20 home runs to go with 27 doubles. 2004 was a bit of a step back, Guillermo was injured for most of the year. 2005 was a repeat, injuries and not many at-bats. Quiroz is the Jays number one catching prospect but all the injuries have lowered his prospect status. If he can get back on track Guillermo could hit .260 to .280, with power. Defensively Quiroz is excellent.

2006 Outlook

Quiroz will start at AAA, if he passes through waivers, and should spend at least a half season there. Guillermo needs a little bit more time to work on his hitting and defense before he is major league ready.

2005

Quiroz was another tough year for Quiroz, two more injuries left him with only 121 minor league at-bats, plus some September at-bats when he was called up to the Blue Jays. As a result of the injuries Quiroz was out of game shape and did not play up to his potential in 2005. Guillermo needs to re-establish himself in 2006.

"...2008. This is 2008. And I feel like what we've all learned from last year has helped us tremendously to make some adjustments and to do things a little bit better as a team this season. You guys know the numbers as well as I do, we played an awful lot of one run games last year and lost them. I think theres a way to find to win and theres a way that you find to lose. Today, we found a way to win and I think that starts with attitude, preparation, and a team concept of everybody chipping in and doing what they can do. And I feel thats whats been established here in the early get-go."

Take some advice and wait. I know everyone's excited, but we're only 4-1. Honestly, I don't even consider a 4-1 record a quick start. Atleast wait until we're 20 games in.

Per Roch:
http://weblogs.baltimoresun.com/sports/roch/blog/2008/04/name_that_tune.html

Players hated it because they didn't think it fired up the crowd or the team - they were making fun of it in spring training - but the song was blaring in the clubhouse today after the Orioles scored three runs in the ninth to win, 3-2. Kevin Millar cranked it up on an iPod while eating his post-game meal. He waited until the media was allowed inside. And then the fun really began.

Millar began clapping his hands to it, keeping the beat to a song that used to be ridiculed, and teammates joined it. At one point, Millar, Jeremy Guthrie, George Sherrill and Brian Burres were slamming their hands on the table in unison. They enjoyed it so much, they played it twice.

Our manager spent two decades in the bush leagues for nearly a half dozen organizations. On the eve of being named permanent manager, the culmination of blood, sweat, and tears, his squad lost by 27 runs.

This is Birdland

Our catcher spent 07 injured and fat. His replacement was drafted.
Our first baseman was a cheerleader for our division rival in the postseason.
Our second baseman wonders if he'll be here next month...week...game.
Our shortstop belongs in AA.
Our third baseman is old, creaky, and often a little cranky.
Our right fielder still on his training wheels when it comes to being a leader.
Our center fielder is happy to be here, learning to me a major leaguer.
Our left fielder has never been ordained an everyday player.
Our designated hitter put his foot in his mouth and painted a strippers butt on a national radio show.

Magic

Our rotation features a Mormon, two guys who walk everyone, a junk baller and a low ceiling lefty.

Our closer comes from the independent leagues, the wasteland of baseball talent, four guys who nobody has ever heard of, and two more that don't break 80 on the gun.

So why the **** not?

That win yesterday for the O's was AWESOME!!! Hopefully they can break out the brooms today and complete the sweep. We've had some good starts in April, but the last time the O's started 4-1 was in 2000. Also, now that Sam Perlozzo is Seattle's 3rd base coach, that had to be painful for him to see his old team come back in the 9th like that, after losing so many games like this as manager. Hopefully Cabrera will get his 1st win of the season, as 5-1 would be a great record starting the 1st road trip of the season.

Jorge Julio all over again

Julio was more prone to giving up the long ball. Julio had no movement on his fastball. At this point, we have better options to close than Cabrera. He really needs to step it up this year as a starter. We have some young guys in the minors that will be pushing for a spot in the rotation in not too long.

abdcskins
April-7th-2008, 01:46 PM
Yeah, today is a very important game for Daniel for two reasons. One, to keep this wonderful start to the season going. Two, to get his confidence back and establish himself. D Cab is one of the most erratic starters I can recall in recent Orioles histrory. One day he has filthy stuff while remaining composed on the mound, the next he is wild while getting rattled over a misplay in the feld or something. He's still relatively young(26) and has the makeup, he just needs to channel that ability.

Let's go O's! I will be watching every game. God I love this package. I get to wakeup and watch the Phillies vs. Reds until the game starts! Jorge Julio was horrendous by the way. It was 50/50 if we would win everytime he came in, regardless if we were winning by 4+ runs.

That was a critical top sixth inning for Cabrera. He is terrible in the first inning. That brain cramp at first base was frustrating to watch. And I thought he should've pitched around Ibanez after going down 2-0. First base was open. Bullpen time.

Huff loves to smash balls at that right-center gap. The only problem is that balls that look crushed die right there--the wind (especially early in the year) has a tunnel effect down Eutaw street and swirls in front of the scoreboard.

There was NO problem with that one!

What I don't understand is this apparent push to keep guys like Millar, Mora, and Huff in the lineup. Does it really matter if we lose 110 games vs. 95? Even more, does it really matter if we lose 6-2 instead of 9-0?

I'd rather see youth at every position and see what sticks. I'm not saying we should rush the guys up from the minors, but if there is someone in the bigs who could be playing for the old guys, do it up!

I understand the "play the kids" mentality, but when it comes to position players, they're all in Frederick right now.

On the bump, however, I think Penn, Liz and Olsen will each get their opportunities this year to stick. I still think Albers should be the 5th starter as Burres' ceiling IS to be a 4th/5th starter, but whatever. :(
