View Full Version : My Call of Duty 4 Server

I just rented a private server (max 10 people) to level up my profile in COD 4. My best friend will be logging in to level at times, but I was wondering if any fellow Redskins fans were interested in leveling up as well.

There is one server I was on that was public called 24/7 Shipment and it was that board repeated and looped with up to 36 people. It was great for leveling, pure ****ing chaos though. So I started thinking, I could just make my own private server that was ranked and level up even easier.

When I say level, I mean logging in with me and swaping off each restart and letting the other player kill you. So we set a score limit of say 1000 points, pick the same weapons (so the person that is leveling can pick up and not run out of bullets) and rack up points to advance in rank.

If anyone is interested, let me know and I will pm you the server IP addy and password.

Also, eventually I will open it up with map rotations, etc. and if 10 fellow Skins fans want to get on and do deathmatch we can.

What, level up and get an inflated rating so when you face people that leveled up the real way you get pwn3d?

No offense but that sounds lame as hell. Are you doing this on the Xbox? I heard they are banning people who do that.

No, it's on PC. And how is it lame? There are plenty of dedicated servers out there available to the public that loop the Shipment map for everyone to level on. Plus, I am paying the money out of my pocket. I thought I would be nice and offer this to fellow Skins fans who may not have the time to level and unlock all the weapons/attachments.

When you get in a game against a large majority of players with everything unlocked and you stink it up because you have ****, it's boring. Plus you are at a great disadvantage.

Some of us don't have the time to play video games all day and night, 365 days out of the year

I don't care about my rating, I just want to get access to all the weapons so I can play on a level field with everyone else that has the downtime to play this game 24-7 and unlock everything.

I guess because you don't learn how to play correctly and because you didn't really earn the upgrades the way other players did. Sorry, I just find it lame.

I know how to play the game correctly. I am already at the rank of Captain, playing the game without doing this. It's fun, yes, but with a baby girl to take care of, my gaming time is severly minimal and will be for a long time.

Also, this doesn't effect anyone from learning to play correctly, it simply allows you to level and unlock the weapons. If I am correct, this is the FPS that makes you level to unlock the ****ing weapons anyhow. I prefer jumping in multiplayer with an even playing field and just shooting away. I don't have the time to do all these challenges just so I can get the uber elite gun.

Your entitled to your opinion, so if you think it's lame, that's fine. Don't participate in the leveling :)

This thread was started to see if anyone was interested in this or not. I was trying to be nice.

Can you even set password protected games on the 360? I had COD 3 on PS3 and I don't think you could do that.

I'm sorry, but ranking up is so lame, and kills the game for the legit players who deserve better ranks then they have all because of some lame-o who wants to cheat to rank up...

Thats right good sir....you are oh so lame. Does the game, and the rank, and the weapons REALLY mean that much to you that you have to cheat to get it up? And you payed for this? Now you are just comically lame.

If it is lame, then why is allowed? Answer me that all great one. If you read the thread you would see that my rationale for doing so is as follows:

You never had to "level" before in any of the COD, Half Life, or Quake FPS games. When you picked a deathmatch game, depending on how the server was set-up, everyone started out with the same level playing field and had to either keep the weapon they started with (COD series) or find body armor and the good weapons that spawned (Half Life series).
I do not have the time to level up in a game because I have a 1 month old daughter to help raise and I cannot afford to waste what little time I do have to play "leveling up" in a FPS game.
In other MMORPGs (Shadowbane, UO, EQ, WoW, etc.) you have to spend hours leveling your character to acquire the skills to compete. There are people who level casually and there are people that power level. This is power leveling.
It is not cheating. Period. There are no cheat codes being used, no exploits, etc. Call it what you want, but it is not cheating.
There are already tons of servers set-up for this very thing. I wanted to start my own.
All of the servers you play on are being paid by other players. Do you realize how much those cost? People are renting public dedicated servers and are paying anywhere from $45-$60 a month (depending on the number of slots) just so you can play the game. So unless you are one of the ones owning/renting a dedicated server then shove it.
Again, if you don't want to participate then don't. I could really give a **** if you think it's lame or not.

I am on your side man. I don't understand why that have such a big problem with it. Maybe they are afraid they will get beat by someone with less experience than them.

No, I don't think so.

Exactly. Maybe getting beat by a 32 yo man who hardly plays the game is a hit to their little ego. I got on one server last week and unloaded almost a full round with the light machine gun and it didn't kill the guy because he had the elite armor on.

Level the playing field and I can hold my own. :)

So you can get different armor in COD4 for the PC? I understand wanting to get all of the guns, but even the early guns are balanced in a way that they are just as good as the later guns. You'll see plenty of people that have gone Prestige several times and are level 55 that still use the M-16.

Maybe it's not body armor, but there is some "increased life" add-ons that are unlocked. Yes, the guns are great to use, however, if you want the laser sight or scope you have to unlock it. Or the grip to increase accuracy, etc.

Uhh here's some quick advice/comments.

1. Rank is useless.

The best thing about cod4 is online competition, whether it's in CEVO, CAL, or even TWL. Since the game is modded, perks removed, etc. there is no need to level really. If you are for some reason playing the game for the sole purpose of playing in a public server for a few hours per day why would you want to artificially accelerate your rank? Isn't that like...all of the fun you're going to have pubbing?

2. Leveling up isn't hard. At all.

I got the game in November and was level 55 by 3 days. I reformatted in January and was level 55 again in 2 days. Even if you aren't playing for extended periods of time it isn't hard at all.

3. If you won't compete at least try out pugging.

A pug is like a slightly organized pub. You go on #cod4pug channel on the gamesurge IRC server and follow the directions there. It's like playing in a match without having to practice, be in a clan, or even be a good player it limits the teams to 5v5, gets you on vent with your pug teammates, and cuts the perks, etc. down to the CAL settings (Bandolier, stopping power, deep impact) and makes the game actually rely on shooting/moving ability rather than your ability to sit in a corner behind 2 claymores with a silenced p90 and UAV jammer on.

If you don't know what I'm talking about carry on, enjoy being a noob :)

leveling up is lame... especially when you pay for a dedicated server and organize it with someone else to trade kills so you can get a higher ranking...

i don't have all the time in the world either... i go to school full time and work full time... and just spending an hour every two days, i'm already at rank 55...and i don't plan to do the whole prestige mode...

The PC version must be different from the console. Red dot sight is unlocked after getting 25 kills with a weapon. The increased life perk you are talking about is called Juggernaut, and on the console it is there right off the bat. People that use Juggernaut are referred to by my friends and me as "Juggernaut bitches". It's a cheap perk.

Yep..you got it bub...Im afraid some guy I will never play, will be better then me at a video game.

...

Riggins...you are right, it is your game, I just find it lame. I use to play Socom 1,2,3, and ca...and it was filled with nothing but rank ups....So I was always stuck at rank 3,000-8,000 playing legit when I should have been top 500 easy. Just use to get on my nerves. So while you are oh so lame...dont take it to heart.
