Ohio Hospital Contests a Story Clinton Tells

Over the last five weeks, Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton (http://topics.nytimes.com/top/reference/timestopics/people/c/hillary_rodham_clinton/index.html?inline=nyt-per) of New York has featured in her campaign stump speeches the story of a health care horror: an uninsured pregnant woman who lost her baby and died herself after being denied care by an Ohio (http://topics.nytimes.com/top/news/national/usstatesterritoriesandpossessions/ohio/index.html?inline=nyt-geo) hospital because she could not come up with a $100 fee.
The woman, Trina Bachtel, did die last August, two weeks after her baby boy was stillborn at O’Bleness Memorial Hospital in Athens, Ohio. But hospital administrators said Friday that Ms. Bachtel was under the care of an obstetrics practice affiliated with the hospital, that she was never refused treatment and that she was, in fact, insured.

How convenient that they failed to fully check the validity of the story. Maybe in the NC primary someone should pose as a Hillary backer, tell a similar sad sack tale which Hillary can then relate. Then when the reporters come looking for attribution, tell them you never said any such thing to her. Now THAT would be funny...and evil....but mostly funny. :)

How do you figure that? I saw it on the local news in DC. The link above is from the freaking NY Times. It's a top story on ABC news. You can't miss it. So why do you claim that the media is not on it?

She was repeating a story told to her by a local sheriff in the jurisdiction where it happened. NBC had video of the guy relating the story to her.

She, or her campaign, can be accused of carelessness for not checking the veracity of the story. But labeling this a lie doesn't fit.

I assume you are joking on this part right? McCain is probably one of the most liked politicians by the media in the past few years. Obama is another one of course. But McCain is EXTREMELY popular with the media and most reporters.

Most people have openly talked about how a McCain vs Obama election would be a media love fest.

McCain is in no way treated hard by the media. Him and Obama are treated extremely lightly. Most politicians don't get that treatment.
