Study: Pesticides found in wine (http://www.upi.com/NewsTrack/Science/2008/04/04/study_pesticides_found_in_wine/4847/)

PARIS, April 4 (UPI) -- A European environmental group said pesticides used on grapes were found in 35 of the 40 bottles of wine they tested.

Pesticide Action Network Europe, working with groups on Austria, France and Germany, said a study found pesticides in all the conventional wines, and a low level of pesticide residues in one of six organic wines. The analysis revealed 24 different pesticide contaminants in the wines.

On average, each wine sample contained more than four pesticides, although one bottle had 10.

"The presence of pesticides in European wines is a growing problem," Elliott Cannell of PAN Europe said in a statement. "Many grape farmers are abandoning traditional methods of pest control in favor of using hazardous synthetic pesticides."

I'm wondering where in France they tested the wines. I wish they would post the results. As strict as France is about wine, this is very surprising.

Although it is also a side effect created by American wines and consumers.

Not really a suprise, pesticides are used at wineries, and some of those pesticides end up in the wine.

But here's a problem I stumbled upon about a month ago when buying my groceries.

I like Red Delicious apples. the store did not have any "regular" Red Delicious in stock, so I bought a bag of "Organic Red Delicious Apples". I ate a few and realized they did not taste the same as my "regular" apples. In fact, it was not just a differnt taste, they actually tasted real bad. My next trip to the store I got my "regular" apples and they tasted great.

Now, since I like the taste of "regular" apples and don't like the taste of organic Apples, does that mean I actaully don't like the taste of Red Delicious Apples but in fact like the taste of pesticides and herbicides?

If people would drink good beer instead they wouldn't have to worry about that. :)

This is just speculation of course, but one possibility might be the usage of a spray called Auxigro, which contains free glutamic acid. Obviously, I have no idea if it was sprayed on the batch of apples you got, but if it was, you may consequently be perceiving greater taste when eating the conventional apples as opposed to the organic apples.
