How many first inning runs are we going to give up today? As Thome bats, I say two.

Adam Jones loves reaching for that slider out of the zone and grounding out to third. I've seen him do that like 10 times this year. What the hell was Luke Scott thinking? A check swing at a curveball down the middle? They both get reprieves because Adam is young and Luke has played well and is allowed a mistake.
I am still not happy with this team right now, particularly the pitching. When are we not going to fall behind in the first inning? It makes me irate. **** it, I'm going to get some lasagna and we better be winning when I get back.

We freakin suck. Reality has hit me like a ton of bricks. It is so apparent. Our starting staff has to be the worst in the league. We have a bunch of medicore veterans(Millar, Huff, Mora, Ramon Hernandez, Payton). I am angry.
I like that lineup Doyler. I would actually consider Ramon in the cleanup spot. He actually has power. But he also sucks.
I'm down for trades now. Roberts, Trachsel, Cabrera, whoever....the future is now. Of course if we win 5 in a row I'll probably be singing a different tune since I am an indecisive mofo.
Orioles, you rip my heart out every season.

I have really been impressed with Luke Scott... I think the outfield looks solid. I didn't get home last night until after 7 last night and turned on the TV to see no outs and down by three in the top of the first. I thought MASN had messed up. So frustrating to learn it was the truth.

I stand by what I said when we were 6-2...
We really need to start looking for ways to get youngsters in there. Play Moore somehow, somewhere every single day. If that cuts into a 36-year old's ABs, so be it.
I want to make sure by the end of this season we know everything there is to know about:
Jones, Scott, Markakis, and Moore
If there are any decent players in AA or AAA, bring them up and take a look. We're NOT going to be even a .500 team, so why continue to play the old guys. I like Mora. I like Millar. I like Huff. They are not the future and should be stepping aside for anyone who is younger than they are.

Looks like our June swoon has started in April this year. To be expected with a young team. I agree with TD, play the young guys. Trade Mora as soon as you can, or just let him go and pay him off.

Some of you guys need to be more patient with this team. Remember the Capitals after the lockout? Young, inexperienced team that sucked ass. Now look at them. Division champs and a playoff showing. The O's should have started to rebuild 5 years ago when Ripken retired. We're 5 years behind and the fans have to realize that this WILL NOT turn around in 1 season. It's going to take 3 years. This will be the worst year and I won't be surprised if we finish something like 64-98. Patience, grasshoppers, patience. I know, I know, we've been through losing so much, why should we wait another 3 years? Well, blame that on Angelos who tried to buy a winner for so many years, sans the farm system. Like I said, we should have been rebuilding 5 years ago. Blame Angelos. Everyone else does. McPhail has us in the right direction, and if we aren't contending by 2011, bump this thread and ream me.

I'm not sure if you were replying to me, but I think we see eye to eye. I would prefer to lose with young players this year than lose a little less with Millar, Mora, and Huff. I like all of those players, they just aren't doing us any good since they will have retired (hopefully) by the time we're good.
So, my complaining isn't due to our team losing recently, it's that we're losing with old vets (in some spots) instead of young prospects.
Trust me, this year is better than normal. We have Jones, 'Kakes, Scott, etc. in the lineup and some young pitchers...but we can do better.

Tejada tells team he’s 33, not 31
PHILADELPHIA (AP)—Houston Astros shortstop Miguel Tejada has told the team he’s actually 33, two years older than he’s listed in the club’s media guide and other baseball records.
Saying he wanted to rid himself of a burden, Tejada approached general manager Ed Wade and asked to correct misinformation he gave the Oakland Athletics when he signed in 1993.
“I was a poor kid,” Tejada said before the Astros finished a three-game series against the Phillies on Thursday. “I wanted to sign a professional contract, and that was the only way to do it. I didn’t want or mean to do anything wrong. At the time, I was two years older than they thought.”
Tejada was actually 19 when he signed out of poverty-stricken Bani, Dominican Republic. At the time, he says, a local coach encouraged him to say he was 17.
“It was brought to our attention that the date we carry for Tejada, the year of birth, is incorrect,” Wade said. “We told Miguel we were going to go ahead and make the appropriate changes and all the information was put forward. But the fact of the matter is he’s playing like he was 25.”
The former American League MVP was signed out of the Dominican Republic by Hall of Famer Juan Marichal, but he was clear Marichal had no part in the deception. Moreover, Wade and Tejada both said the shortstop’s green card, driver’s license and other legal papers in the United States reflect his actual birthday, May 25, 1974.
The Astros’ media guide lists his birthday as May 25, 1976.
“It’s something that happened the first time I signed my contract,” Tejada said. “I had no intention of doing anything wrong. And now I feel like I’m 25 years old, maybe younger. I feel my legs are stronger than I used to be feeling. I feel great. I have a lot of energy.”

I agree with everything you said. However, there comes a point when fans(me) get sick and tired of losing. Our farm system, up until the past couple years, has been dry. We've signing aging veterans who can't contribute anymore. Javy Lopez, Danys Baez. And we give them tons of money. I WANT TO WIN NOW!!! 26 years since our last World Series is enough. I wasn't even old enough to enjoy that.
Basically I am disgusted at this team. Which is funny, because we are 8-7 right now. But I can see the horribleness(word?) in this team. Kevin freakin' Millar is our cleanup batter. We need to trade Melvin Mora for $100 and let Scott Moore play. Then only reason Mora is playing is because we are giving him $7,826,915 a year. How absurd is that?
So basically I agree with everything you said and I am just venting. Another thing, there needs to be a salary cap in baseball. I've said that for years. The Red Sox and Yankees are allowed to buy themselves success while other teams can merely stand around and watch. And what is sad is that we aren't even a small market team. But on the other hand teams like Minnesota(payroll $56,932,766) and Oakland(payroll $47,167,126) have been able to compete and make the playoffs. But let's be honest, Pittsburgh and Milwaukee ain't winning a World Series anytime soon.

I agree with this. The rebuilding effort should have started last season. Plenty of guys could be dealt this July adding to our talent pool - maybe some younger farm guys could be ready, particuarly the pitching prospects, and perhaps we might make a move or two in bring in a FA. Three more seasons with McPhail leading the way sounds about right.
