I think Conan was overrated, so I'm willing to see how Fallon does.

you're crazy :) Conan was/is a breath of fresh air in late night TV... everything from Triumph to If They Mated to The Masterbating Bear... freakin classic, original comedy. It's always refreshing to see someone come along and push the envelope and take a risk, rather than just fill in the status quo and follow in everyone else's footsteps. (cough Jay Leno cough).
I can still remember my freshman year of college watching Conan for the first time... my roomates and I all looking at each other wondering who this goofy guy was making lame jokes. For some reason we caught the show a few more times, and all of a sudden we 'got it'. By our Jr. year, it was ritual to watch Conan while enjoying a nice buzz. Completely original, completely fresh, and ****ing hilarious. Some of the hardest I've ever laughed at a TV show came during Conan's show.
Now all that said, I rarely catch him anymore, I'm just not up that late much anymore. And if I am, my wife's asleep and I can't turn on the TV :). But he'll always be a favorite
Fallon has absolutely no charisma. I think he strikes most people as a smarmy **** who thinks he is a lot funnier than he actually is.
Oh and "cracking up" while you're doing a live performance is funny once in a while, but dam, if you do it every time it's just immature and unprofessional.
I can think of about 7 people off the top of my head that NBC would be better off with than Fallon. A few of them post on ES

Jimmy Fallon has had about 24 minutes of his allotted 15 minutes of fame.
Ugh. They may as well have given Chevy Chase another shot.

Oh, and Conan is comedy genius. The Asian Apprentice was about the funniest bit I've seen on TV in the last 10 years, maybe more.

Anyone remember Triumph ripping on Fabio? HILARIOUS. "Nice hair Fabio... it looks like an Afghan I humped last week"
I seriously thought Fabio was going to get out of his chair and throw punches, it got uncomfortable for a while

I was actually thinking that Jimmy Fallon and Carson Daily have a very similar sense of humor. They both have others write the jokes for them, they arent funny, and they laugh at their own jokes.
Once Conan's show is over the tv will be turned off

Its a good thing that Craig Ferguson isn't terrible. Atleast there will be something decent to watch at that hour. It'll probably do good things for his show (Ferguson, that is), when the change is made.

i've never actually watched him since i'm a die-hard conan fan, but i've heard good things about him. i'm betting ratings will jump up a ton once he's no longer competing with the conan.

Yea, after watching Letterman and I don't know where the remote is, I often won't care if I leave Ferguson on. He's pretty high energy, is pretty goofy and does a lot of skits himself (read: not paid actors). And if Conan is a repeat, I have no problem watching Ferguson. Though, because I'm in this thread, I switched the station to Conan ;).

I just don't think anyone can replace Conan. Course I said the same thing about the Daily Show.

Can't forget about Conan's magical lever that played clips from Walker, Texas Ranger

This is awful.
Do the networks seriously not poll people before making decisions like this? And if they do, who the hell said "Yes, Jimmy Fallon would make an excellent late night show host"...?????

Jimmy Freaking Fallon?!
I swear to God that NBC has a mancrush on him or something. They pushed him like hell when he was on SNL, put him in almost every skit when he was one of the worst cast members (constantly laughed during the skits, was rarely funny, and got really really annoying at times). Now they're bringing him in as Conan's replacement for when Conan takes over for Jay?
Ugh ... Jimmy Freaking Fallon ... :puke:

I agree that Fallon is a weird weird choice.
I remember thinking that Conan was unwatchable when he first came on. He was goofy, inexperienced, and extremely nervous and fidgety. I thought NBC had a train wreck on its hands. But all that changed over time. He settled into the gig, and we got used to him.
As to alternatives to Fallon, I always thought that Adam Corolla was funnier than Jimmy Kimmel. Hard to say whether his droll style would translate well to solo talk show host, though.

Yea, not buying it. Corolla is occasionally funny, but most of his jokes...or just attempts at humor BOMB on the late night shows. I end up laughing anyways, because he's that bad at it.
However, Kimmel has good delivery and good ideas. If NBC could lure him over, they'd be set for sure.

Oops, I mangled it. It was actually The Malaysian Apprentice. There was a Malaysian version of Donald Trump with underage children factory workers vying to be the apprentice. Hilarious!! :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao:
I looked for a clip but couldn't find one anywhere.

Why the hell would they do this? This is like Trung Canidate replacing Stephen Davis.
I guess they figure that since everyone is watching Adult Swim by then anyway, they might as well have an excuse. Conan is one of my favorite hosts. His comedy is completely off the wall and random, and I love it. Jimmy Fallon getting any type of play, is a complete waste of time and space.

It's not that Conan isn't funny. I actually used to watch Conan all the time in high school, and I love Triumph. The Star Wars skit is a classic.
I don't think he's quite as funny as people make him out to be, and one thing in particular about him really got on my nerves. He spent too much time making jokes about how his jokes aren't funny, and not enough time actually making jokes. At least that's how it seemed when I stopped watching.
