Vickers is surprising me a bit. Just have to keep his wheels on. Will Tony use that paint scheme for a race?

Montoya may drive for Gibbs next season
■ Chip Ganassi won the Indianapolis 500 Sunday with Scott Dixon, but over in Ganassi's NASCAR camp things aren't going quite so well.
In fact, Juan Pablo Montoya appears to be getting fed up with the way that things are going and there is speculation that Toyota men Joe and J. D. Gibbs may be ready to make a run at Montoya to fill the NASCAR seat that Tony Stewart is expected to leave at the end of the season. Montoya was not pleased that Ganassi fired crew chief Jimmy Elledge last week, just two days before Lowe's Motor Speedway opened for the Coca-Cola 600.
What I have heard...
J.D. and JPM had dinner together early last week. Interesting. My opinion: Biffle would be a better fit in the 20 Home Depot Toyota.

Pocono Raceway is not for sale
By DAN GELSTON, AP Sports Writer
AP - May 27, 12:37 pm EDT - LONG POND, Pa. (AP)—Bruton Smith’s push to land the Sprint Cup Series in Kentucky will go on without plucking dates from Pocono Raceway.
The 2 1/2 -mile triangle NASCAR track nestled in the mountains is not for sale.
And Dover International Speedway might be out of Smith’s reach, too.
Rose Mattioli told The Associated Press on Tuesday there are no plans to sell Pocono, which currently has two Sprint Cup races, and there will be racing on the mountaintop for at least “as long as our grandkids live.”
“It never was available; it never will be available,” said Mattioli, who owns the track with her husband, Joseph. “My husband has stated that over and again. That’s it.”
Smith was widely considered an interested buyer after Speedway Motorsports Inc. purchased Kentucky Speedway last week. There was speculation Smith, the SMI owner, had his eye on Pocono. If he bought that track, Smith could have moved one or both its dates to any of his speedways.
Rose Mattioli said that Pocono Raceway was entrusted to their grandchildren and they will continue to help run the track.
“They’re always looking here,” she said. “We get phone calls all the time. We’re not interested in selling. This is it.”
The Sprint Cup Series tested on Tuesday and will again on Wednesday in preparation for the Pocono 500 on June 8. The Pennsylvania 500 is Aug. 3.
The 81-year-old Smith told the AP he had not spoken with the Mattiolis about purchasing the track, which is outside New York City and Philadelphia.
Joseph Mattioli, the Pocono Raceway board chairman, brought NASCAR to the Poconos over a plate of fried chicken with Bill France in 1972. In the mid-1970s, when the CART-USAC fight helped cause financial problems at the track, Mattioli wanted to sell until he received a call from France Sr. The two met in New York and France persuaded Mattioli to ride out the downturn and keep the track.
Rose said Joseph Mattioli is feeling better after a recent bout with pneumonia.
Smith did, however, say he’s had some conversations with the owners of Dover International Raceway and it’s his understanding that the track is “more or less for sale.” Pocono, Dover and Indianapolis are the only three tracks on the current Cup schedule owned by track operators other than SMI or International Speedway Inc.
The Dover track serves markets in Baltimore, New York, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C., among others. Denis McGlynn, president and CEO of Dover Motorsports, said there are routinely offers for the 1-mile track. He didn’t expect the Sprint Cup Series to desert Dover, even if the concrete mile was ever sold.
“We have over the years, and we will continue over the years, to anticipate two races at Dover,” McGlynn said. “I don’t know why there would be a removal of a race from here.”
Smith remains determined to get Kentucky a Sprint Cup race, even though NASCAR said last week 2009 is out of the question.
“There is a way, but the main problem would be timing,” Smith said. “We have a short stick here on the timing, as NASCAR would like to get this schedule out by September. But (NASCAR chairman) Brian France is correct when he says I have not asked about a date.”
Smith’s latest push for a race date comes at the same time he’s been pushing for a second Cup race at his Las Vegas showplace. He’s said he’s committed to getting a date for both facilities, but Kentucky is the more pressing matter right now.
“Today, we need to get Kentucky moving,” Smith said.
That’s why Pocono was the most likely candidate for purchase, as Smith could take both of its races and move one to Kentucky and one to Las Vegas.
He brokered a similar deal with North Wilkesboro, when he and Bob Bahre teamed to buy the track. Smith moved one race date to Texas, Bahre moved the other to New Hampshire and North Wilkesboro was shuttered. Smith last year bought New Hampshire from Bahre.
While drivers routinely complain Pocono’s 500-mile races are 100 miles too long, they want to keep driving at the track that held its first NASCAR race in 1974.
“There’s a lot of history here at Pocono and they deserve every consideration,” Jeff Burton said. “We have to be where the people want us to be. If the attendance is good here, then they don’t deserve to lose a race.”

Joey Logano to make long awaited debut at Dover...
NASCAR Teleconference: Joey Logano
An interview with: Joey Logano
May 28, 2008 - Today's NASCAR teleconference, in advance of this weekend's NASCAR National Series triple-header at Dover International Speedway in Dover, Delaware, features special guest Joey Logano, who makes his long-awaited NASCAR National Series debut Saturday in the NASCAR Nationwide Series.
Q. Joey, so many people have been waiting on your debut. So many people are excited. How about you personally? What is the excitement and anticipation to finally get out there in National Series competition?
JOEY LOGANO: I'm definitely excited to get out there, been just waiting my whole life to get out to the Nationwide Series. Finally to get to run, it's definitely exciting. With the new sponsors, GameStop on the car, first time they've been on the racecar, so that's really exciting, too. Got an exciting year coming up.
Q. Had you ever waited for a birthday with more anticipation?
JOEY LOGANO: Not really. I waited till I turned 14 to run ASA, 15 for Pro Cup. Ran the Camping World Series last year. It was like the first time I was able to run for a whole series for points. I kind of had to wait because my birthday is in May, you know, it's in the middle of the season. But, yeah, I've definitely been excited.
Q. There's been a lot of hype and expectations put on you for your debut this weekend. Have you had a chance to talk to any fellow drivers and what they think of you coming up into the series?
JOEY LOGANO: Yeah, I mean, you know, talked to Kyle, Denny, Tony. They're real good guys, help me out as much as they can. I talked to Kyle a little bit last week. Gave me some advice about Dover, about who you can race with, what to do, things to do on the racetrack.
Yeah, they're very helpful
Q. The last couple years the expectations have been getting higher and higher for you, and you haven't even stepped on a Nationwide or Cup track. How do you deal with that heading into your debut?
JOEY LOGANO: I mean, yeah, there's a lot of hype. But it's not because I want to put hype on it. It's all you guys putting all the stuff into it. But I'm here to race. You know, all the hype kind of goes out the window as soon as the race goes green.
So, you know, like I was saying, I'm looking forward to getting to Dover. As far as all that stuff, it doesn't really bother me too much.
Q. You're 18 years old. People are forgetting that you're handling yourself like you're a professional. Are you regretting not being able to be a regular 18-year-old, hang out with your friends, or are you still able to do all those things?
JOEY LOGANO: I'm still able to do a lot of that stuff. When I'm home, I'm not sitting down often. I'm either hanging out with my friends or doing whatever. But, you know, I still have that core group of friends that we can do whatever with. We'll go on the lake, we'll go to the go-kart track. We'll do stuff like that. So I still have a kid's life.
Q. The media coverage is on the radio, in print, online. Do you pay attention to that at all? Do you read the stuff? How do you deal with it?
JOEY LOGANO: I think it's cool personally (laughter). You know, as a kid, as any kid, you would think it's cool to be on TV and newspaper and all that stuff.
But I don't really look into it that much. You know, I don't really read many of the articles. I don't know, I don't really let it get to me. I'm here to race. I have known that stuff comes along with it, which is fine.
Q. But does it not get to you at some point, Oh, my God, how am I ever going to do this?
JOEY LOGANO: No, not really. My goal is to go out there and win races. If that's what everyone expects out of me, yeah, so be it. But, you know, I feel like I'm getting in a great car with Dave Rogers and the guys there. I really think we can do real good.
Q. Can you catch us up on what you've been doing this year other than that ARCA race at Rockingham? How much testing have you been able to do? Have you done any Cup testing at all?
JOEY LOGANO: Yeah, I do a ton of Cup testing. I was talking to Wally Brown, a Cup engineer that does all the test stuff. 4100 miles I think testing in the Cup car. Yeah, I got plenty of testing under my belt. Like to get some more racing, though. So I'm getting to that now.
Q. Have you done some Nationwide testing, as well?
JOEY LOGANO: Yeah, we tested once down at Rockingham a couple weeks ago just to get all the guys together, working together. Me and Dave worked real good together. Me and the whole 20 team worked good together. We kind of got something and made some changes to see what I thought about it so we could kind of put it to work at Dover.
Q. You're getting into some equipment that's been pretty stout so far this year. How much does that really help your confidence level, getting into cars that have already won racing this year?
JOEY LOGANO: It definitely helps a ton. Getting into a winning car is definitely a big deal here. You can ask any driver. A lot of it is driver and a lot of it is the car you get into. I'm definitely getting into one of the greatest cars out there. To get out there knowing you can go out there and run up front, you know, it's not like you're going to go out there and have a best finish of a 20th place because that's all you've got with in the car. I've got a good enough car to run up front, so that's a good deal.
Q. Talking to Bill and Billy Venturini, they said they think you don't know how good you are. How is it possible for you to have done so much at this age and for you not to grasp what you're all about?
JOEY LOGANO: I don't really look at myself that way. You know, I'm here to race, like I said. But I don't look back and say, Wow, I'm good. You know, I do the best as I can and let everything else take care of itself. I'm not going to go out there and brag about myself and say I'm the best thing out there. That stuff's going to speak for itself as far as winning races.
Q. Was there a moment when you started stepping up in competition, especially racing people that were a lot older than you, that there's a win or a moment where you just sort of thought, Yeah, I can do this?
JOEY LOGANO: I don't really think there is one moment. You know, I've raced my whole life. Started when I was six. Always raced against people that were older than me. I don't think there's ever been one moment I said, I can do this. I've wanted to run Cup Series since I was six years old. Like I said, I don't really look at that stuff. You know, if I think I can do it or whatever, I just let it take care of itself.
Q. Going into the next phase of your career, what are the best and worst? What are the main things you're concerned about and what's the thing you're most excited about with moving into the Nationwide Series?
JOEY LOGANO: I'm definitely excited about getting there. You know, all these interviews I've been doing about Dover, Dover, Dover. I'm looking forward to getting to the other races we've got. We have 18 of them scheduled. I'm looking forward to all that.
As far as what – I would say I'm not worried about, but the thing we've really been talking about is green flag pit stops. Haven't been able to do many of those in the all the series that I ran. When we went down to Rockingham, we were practicing making green flag stops. I feel confident we can do it. We're going to a track that's harder to make a green flag pit stop. You see people are struggling. But I feel we'll be fine there.
Q. You brought up you're looking forward more so to the rest of the schedule, not just Dover this weekend. Looking forward to all that, how do you define success for yourself? At the end of the year, what would be satisfying to you?
JOEY LOGANO: What would be satisfying for me? It would be winning a few races. I think I can. I think the whole team can win some races. So I haven't sat down and said I want to finish here, here, here in every single race.
But, yeah, run up front every week and, you know, finish as good as we can and get some wins under our belt would be our goal right now.
Q. Looking toward what you've driven in the past, with the East Series stuff, is there a lot of difference between the equipment in the East Series and what you're going to be driving in Nationwide?
JOEY LOGANO: Yeah, they're similar cars. A lot of the Camping World cars were old Nationwide cars. So they're about the same. And now that the horsepower is, you know, smaller in the Nationwide car, they're more equal. I think the biggest difference is going to be radial tires to bias ply tires. I think that's the biggest change between the both of them. Besides that, there's not much difference.
Q. You've acclimated to the tire change just fine? You haven't had any trouble adjusting to that?
JOEY LOGANO: No, no. You know, when I did all the Cup testing, that's on a radial tire. Kind of ran a radial tire in the Hooter's Pro Cup series, stuff like that, so I've had some laps on that.
Q. You spent most of your teenage years competing against adults. Do you know how that has changed you or what you might have been like had you not had this opportunity?
JOEY LOGANO: I don't know what I'd be doing if I wasn't doing this. I've raced my whole life. That's what I am. That's what I do. I don't know what else I would be doing. I guess I'd be throwing garbage cans or something.
But, yeah, it's definitely changed my whole life, changed everything. I wouldn't trade it for the world.
Q. What have you learned from adults that has surprised you?
JOEY LOGANO: I've learned a lot, you know. I've always spent time with people older than me. You know, when you're racing against people older than you, you always spend time with people that are older than you. Wisdom comes from older people, apparently (laughter).
So, yeah, I've learned a lot. I can't name one thing. But I feel like I've learned so much at a young age, that I'm able to do this stuff now, you know, and put that stuff to use that I've learned.
Q. Was there any thoughts to starting your career at another track? Dover is obviously a huge task to take on for your Nationwide Series race. Any communication between you, your family and the Joe Gibbs Racing family, or was it a question of, When I turn 18, I'm going racing?
JOEY LOGANO: It was pretty much: When I turn 18, we're going racing. We didn't really think much of it. Dover seemed like a good track for me to start at. I raced there before. I ran there last year in the Camping World Series. I feel comfortable going there in a similar car that we ran last year there.
I'm fine going to that place. I know it is a tough place, the Monster Mile. But, you know, that seems like a plenty good enough place for me to start.
Q. Do you hope to make some Cup starts by the end of this year? People are already earmarking you for Cup as early as 2009. What is your own timetable?
JOEY LOGANO: You know, I take things one day at a time. Right now I focus on the next race in front of me. You always have to put a hundred percent into the next race. I don't look that far ahead of me. I'll let that stuff take care of itself. If we go out there and win races, people are going to realize it, and that's when we move up.
Right now I focus on one day at a time. When Joe and J.D. say I'm ready, that's when I'm going to go.
Q. Reading up on you since you're getting ready to make the jump to Nationwide with Joe Gibbs, I know you're still going to run some ARCA races, but has there been any talk maybe trying to qualify for a Cup race for this year for Gibbs?
JOEY LOGANO: No. We haven't really brought it up too much right now. We're focusing on running our Nationwide races right now. We're going to run Talladega, ARCA race. That's what's on the schedule right now. You never know, things could pop up here and there, but that's all we've got right now
Q. With being in the ARCA series, now that you've moved up, is there any advice or anything you can tell other drivers that are trying to get out of ARCA to move up to Nationwide?
JOEY LOGANO: I mean, pretty much when people ask me what do you got to do to move up, you got to win races. That's what it comes down to. That's how you get your name out there and you get someone behind you that can bring you to the next series. You've got to get out there and do whatever you can do to run up front and win as many races as you can. It takes a lot of hard work.
Q. You've had a lot of successes already. Where does Dover rank on your list of successes with the showdown, the east championship? Do you see it as another step?
JOEY LOGANO: It's another step. Dover, yeah, it's been a buildup for a long time now. I can't wait to get there. But it's still another race. It's a racecar. It's a racetrack. There's nothing that out of the ordinary.
Q. You're basically the new kid on the block at Joe Gibbs Racing. That team obviously has a lot of colorful personalities. How is your personality and how do you fit in with the rest of them?
JOEY LOGANO: I'm just kind of a happy-go-lucky kid that gets to drive racecars. I'm a very happy person. I got a smile on my face all the time. I'm a very highly competitive person, just like the rest of my teammates there. I think that's how a lot of athletes are. We go there for one reason: that's winning. We're going to do whatever it takes to do that. But at the same time I'm going to have fun with it.

Just got word on Sirius that the 66 and 70 got 150 point penalties, $100,000 fines, and crew AND car chief suspensions for 6 weeks; plus probation until Dec. 31. (Course, they didn't get the Chase penalties...cause...well, you know.)
As make up calls go, that's a damn big one. Now if they could just make the bigtime Chevy teams follow the rules during the race, you'll hear much less from me. (And I know you all would like that.) :)

Dave Skog is a good friend and hate to see this fine against him - his wife Angie was Ricky's assistant for many years. Unfortunately, we lost Angie a little over three years ago to cancer. Somewhere, she is still trying figure out my digital camera. :D I really miss her.
Anyway, here are the details...

No. 66 and 70 Teams Penalized for Infractions at Lowe’s
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (May 28, 2008) – NASCAR has issued penalties, fines and suspensions to the No. 66 and No. 70 teams in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.
The No. 66 car driven by Scott Riggs and the No. 70 car driven by Johnny Sauter were found to be in violation of Sections 12-4-A (actions detrimental to stock car racing) and 20-3.1.3A (wing mounting locations were not as specified by the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Rule book). The infractions were discovered May 24 at Lowe’s Motor Speedway.
As a result, Riggs and No. 66 car owner Joe Custer have been penalized 150 championship driver and 150 championship owner points, respectively, as have Sauter and No. 70 car owner Margaret Haas. Both the crew chiefs and the car chiefs for the two cars – Bootie Barker and Derick Jennings for the No. 66 and Dave Skog and Thomas Harris for the No. 70 – have been suspended from the next six NASCAR Sprint Cup Series events, suspended from NASCAR until July 9 and placed on NASCAR probation until Dec. 31. Additionally, Barker and Skog have each been fined $100,000 apiece.
The penalty also includes NASCAR’s confiscation of team 66 Serial Number HMS 12 06 415 race car and team 70 Serial Number HMS 04 08 507 race car.

The 70 car will be under the top 35 for the remainder of the year with a penalty like this one (343 points behind 36th place now). The 66 will now be on the bubble with the top 35 - only five points from 36th place. The 66 could fall below that line and Haas will really be hurting.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (May 28, 2008) – NASCAR announced today that Tony Eury Sr., crew chief for the No. 88 Chevrolet driven by Brad Keselowski, has been fined and placed on probation as have two members of the JR Motorsports team that were involved in a post-race altercation in the pit road impound area following the NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Lowe’s Motor Speedway on May 24.
Eury Sr. was fined $1,000 and placed on probation until June 25, 2008 for violating Sections 12-4-A (actions detrimental to stock car racing) and 9-4A (the crew chief assumes responsibility for the actions of his or her driver, car owner and team members) of the 2008 NASCAR Nationwide Series Rule Book.
Additionally, JR Motorsports crew member Michael Sandlin will serve a one-race suspension from the NASCAR Nationwide Series and is suspended from NASCAR until June 4, 2008. He has been placed on probation until October 15, 2008 and also has been fined $1,500 for violating Section 12-4-A. Sandlin failed to follow a directive from a NASCAR official and had inappropriate contact with a NASCAR official during the post-race altercation.
Jordan Allen, another JR Motorsports crew member, also has been placed on probation until October 15, 2008 and fined $1,500 for being in violation of Section 12-4-A. Allen also failed to follow a directive from a NASCAR official and had inappropriate contact with a NASCAR official during the post-race altercation.

Biffle ain't goin' anywhere...at least not until Colin Braun is ready. :)
Greg already came out and said he has no intention of even talking to anyone else. He relaxed his stance a little, saying he would listen to offers or something, but he's just trying to add a zero or two to the magic number.

So Junior "whoopsied" down pit road when it was closed. (I guess there was a camera man standing in front of the pit road flagman.)
And then he "whoopsied" a little too fast down pit road. (Note: the in-car camera doesn't have a cameraman to 'accidentally' step on his gas pedal.)
Then he "whoopsied" around the safety vehicle (which I watched with my own eyes turn toward the inside wall to get as far as possible out of his way.)
And then he "whoopsied" down pit road too fast again because the non-existent camera man had his and over the RPM guage?
Apples to dumptrucks, my friend. Apples to dumptrucks. :)
Come on.
At a minimum, he should have finished two laps down.
It's OK though. At least if they hand him Dover, I won't be watching. That'll certainly add a year or two to my life. :D

I'm not pissed at Jr. I am pissed at NASCAR, for officiating based on who he is. (Although he could've just accepted his fate, like so many others in the same situation have done. But still, that's just his competitiveness, so I can't fault that too much.)
NASCAR not releasing its rulebook is ridiculous. I can get a copy of the rulebook for any major pro sport online. They can't make me a legitimate argument as to why the same is not true of NASCAR.
Course, Vince McMahon hasn't released his rulebook either, soooo....

Jerry Bonkowski had this answer for a fan (Brian) who thought that Nascar made a mistake...
"A lot of people thought the same thing you did, Brian. However, NASCAR rules clearly state that the penalty for speeding on pit road is being sent to the tail end of the longest line, which is exactly what happened to Junior. He was just taking advantage of the rules.
There was some confusion, though. After the second time Junior sped down pit road to make repairs to his banged up car, NASCAR warned him that if he did it again he would be held one lap. Junior and his team interpreted this as an actual penalty not a warning, and thus stayed on pit road and fell one lap down. After a discussion between both parties clarified that it wasn’t a penalty but a warning, NASCAR allowed Junior to rejoin the race on the lead lap at the tail end of the longest line. Hope that clears it up....and more"

Dover shareholder wants racetrack company to sell
By David Caraviello, NASCAR.COM
May 30, 2008
09:43 AM EDT
DOVER, Del. -- Dover International Speedway's largest outside shareholder wants the racetrack's assets to be sold, with the Monster Mile possibly becoming part of Bruton Smith's empire at Speedway Motorsports Inc.
Mario Cibelli, founder and managing partner of Marathon Partners, a New York-based investment group, sent a letter to the board of directors of Dover Motorsports Inc. on Thursday urging the company to divest itself of its racing properties. In Cibelli's view, the recent purchases by SMI of speedways in Kentucky and New Hampshire mean the time is right to sell a Dover facility whose stock price has fallen 20 percent since racing and casino operations were split six years ago.
"The days of the independent NASCAR track owners have all but passed," Cibelli wrote in a letter faxed and express mailed to board members. "Dover Motorsports will never be able to achieve the operating performance of International Speedway Corporation and Speedway Motorsports Inc. The combined strength of the industry leaders leaves the company at a permanent competitive disadvantage in regards to sponsorship dollars, operating margins and infrastructure. It is simply not possible for a single Sprint Cup series track to produce the results of a large portfolio of similar tracks. More time and additional patience cannot change this fact. Both ISC and SMI can operate the Monster Mile more profitably than Dover Motorsports will ever be able to."
Dover also owns Nationwide Series tracks in Nashville, Memphis and St. Louis, facilities Cibelli has been told lose a cumulative $6 million a year. At worst, he wants what he calls the company's "Midwest tracks" sold off. At best, he urges the hiring of an advisor to facilitate a competitive auction that would sell all the company's assets, including the 135,000-seat facility in the Delaware capital.

This is what Bruton Smith wants. He'll take a race from Dover and one from New Hampshire and give them to Kentucky and Las Vegas. It seems to me to be a waste to have one race at Dover a year.

"Elliott is a well respected driver who has the skills, both on and off the track, to succeed in NASCAR," CEO Tom Reddin said.

Good for him. With Khane finding a couple wins lately, maybe GEM will put Sadler in Victory Lane soon. He's a good guy and it be good to see him get a few more wins.

Speed adapting to stock cars, but style here to stay
Running ARCA, limited Truck Series with eye on Cup
By Raygan Swan, NASCAR.COM
May 27, 2008
02:11 PM EDT
If you see a driver walking into the garage with a Louis Vuitton man bag slung over his shoulder, you can bet it's Scott Speed.
Here to master the art of stock-car racing and embrace the NASCulture, the former Formula One driver, accustomed to yacht life and casinos in Monte Carlo, is far from a good ol' boy.
The 25-year-old West Coast native didn't grow up in the South, he's never shopped at a Cabela's and he doesn't have a home on Lake Norman neighboring the dozens of race shops in Mooresville, N.C.
Scott Speed won the ARCA race at Kansas Speedway this year.“
They want me in a Cup car as soon as possible, but I want to race and relax and take my time in ARCA as long as possible. Until that time, I'm putting myself in a position to learn. However long it takes, I'm confident I will be successful in the Cup Series.
”
He has a home in Austria, as well as a home north of Uptown Charlotte. He requires regular facials, and if fashion was an Olympic sport, he'd be a gold medallist.

Hog you shouldn't hope your driver races in the Nationwide series. One day it will happen, a major cup driver gets hurt in a minor league race. Remember when JR got burned up in that race a few years ago? That may have costed him big time that year we will never know. I dont even know why they want to run so many races in the nationwide series. :2cents:

I understand your position on Cup drivers in N'wide, and I think you understand mine. We just disagree, and that's cool. For all the **** I talk with you guys, I think you know I respect your positions.
NASCAR is an inherently risky business. For God's sake, how many drivers/team owners/team members have we lost, simply flying to and from race tracks? Kulwicki, Allison, the Hendrick crash.
So what, do we make these guys drive everywhere because flying is too risky? You can't. The schedule is too tight for that. Unfortunately, you just have to understand that if you're going to participate in this sport, there are risks that you simply cannot avoid.
It's like when I worked in law enforcement. I loved every second of it. Was it a risky job? In a lot of ways, yes, but you can't think that way. If you do, you'll be completely ineffective. The same is true of NASCAR, IMO.
Like I said before, guys come up too fast these days. Getting as much experience as possible, even after you've made it to Cup, only makes both series better, IMO.
I know you disagree, and like I said, I respect that. Just my :2cents: .

I just checked the radar, SB. It doesn't look good. It looks like the worst of the main cell has passed, but it's going to be raining steady there until at least 5:15.
After that, there's one of those small "windows" and then a small, but powerful looking cell right behind it.
If 6:15 is their drop dead time, I'd say no racing tonight. But I'm no meteorologist either.

honarary hog,
You're wrong about the rule books for major sports being online. The official NFL rulebook is not kept online, they just have a "rules digest". From the rules digest main page on NFL.com.It is not meant to be a substitute for the official rule book. In any case of conflict between these explanations and the official rules, the rules always have precedence. This is something I've talked about with a few people the past couple of years...

Still I wish NASCAR would do SOMETHING to that effect. At least give us an idea of what the penalty will be if you commit a given infraction. The NFL at least does do that.

Having fun with the "Rat" thing HH - don't blow a gasket.
It's all good. It's the on-track BS that gets to me. :)
I called this a couple of weeks ago. Jack really has no choice, considering the way Dave Ragan has run this year. That kid is 200% better than he was last year, and he's 6 or 7 years younger than McMurray.
I look for the 26 team (still the 97 to me) to go away after this season. Jack's already talked about downsizing a year early. IMO, Biffle has built himself a nice little history and track record in the 16. No reason to slap a different decal on his car. (And obviously the 6, 17, and 99 aren't going anywhere.)
I'm sorry to hear this for Jamie, though like I said, I think it was inevitable. I wish him the best. He's a good kid who keeps his nose clean and does things the right way. Too bad it didn't work out.
Jamie never really found his identity with Roush though, for whatever reason. I think the makeup of this team going forward, with a brilliant young driver in Ragan, a real contender in Edwards, a quiet, solid vet in Biffle, and a former champion in Kenseth, is the PERFECT setup.
Plus, when you throw in the resources of five teams across the operations of four teams, that can only make them stronger.
I'm excited about the future at Roush.
Good luck Jamie. Here's to you not becoming a Jeremy Mayfield.
PS -- This also lends further credence to my statement that BIFFLE AIN'T GOIN' ANYWHERE!!! :D

I believe its the weekend of 9/19, 9/20, 9/21.
I also see we have a home game against Ariz. on 9/21, that's actually a game I wouldn't mind going to... Just trying to figure out what, if anything, i'm gonna get into for this weekend.
