Since "The Wire" ended, I have been looking forward to seeing what the creators of that series would do with the Iraq War mini-series, Generation Kill. As the series premier approaches I find myself anticipating it more and more.
Anyone else excited about this series?

the creators of The Wire have a pretty good track record with shows, from Homicide: Life On The Street, The Corner, & The Wire, all were great shows (the wire being my favorite show ever).
i'll give anything they put their name on a chance. i'm looking forward to this miniseries.

I'm definitely watching it . . . David Simon is a genius.

Although I was a little put off by the complaining going on in the first 15 minutes, I was able to settle in and realize this is not a 21st century version of Band of Brothers. Fair or not, I could not help but compare and contrast the two. I think it was a good indiction of the differences between this generation and that of the guys from WWII.
For the first episode I expected a little more of an introduction to the characters but overall, not bad. I will continue watching.

I liked it. I liked it when they were singing "Loving You".
Good show.

I thought it was a good start to the series. Hard to judge any series based on the first hour but I like the direction it's taking. Typical of Simon and Burns it seems there will be shades of gray as opposed to the normal good vs. bad\right vs. wrong in this series.

I enjoyed it. The book was great so I hope they can do the book justice with this. The first episode was a little boring but I know that's because they have to set the story up.

I must be the only one who watches this show but I think it's been really well done so far - probably will pick it up on DVD when it comes out too.

This miniseries is great as expected from Simon and Burns. Very intense but strangely hilarious in the face of such serious circumstances. Awesome stuff. The main driver (who was also on the wire season 2) is fricking hilarious

It's alrght.
Seems to focus quite a bit on our Marines being inept bumblers, baby killers, shooters of unarmed men in the back, killers of kids, idiots who open fire on women and children.. officers more concerned with their own ambition than the safety of their men, ...
I've seen one good firefight against enemy troops, and about a half dozen scenes dealing with maimed kids and murdered innocents, gunned down and grenaded by our brainwashed monsters.
In watching this, I'm utterly amazed that our troops didn't kill themselves with backwards pointed weapons, or find themselves in the Netherlands after making another wrong turn under orders from the oh-so-predictable inept captain character.
It's a theme these days,, we're just a nation full of bloodthirsty Dudley Do-Rights riding our horses backwards into battle, shooting everything in our paths. It gets a little tiresome.

I don't get that impression at all.
I think it shows there is some incompetent leadership, some politicking, and a lot of stress that goes on during these types of missions.
I think if that is what you are looking for, that is what you will see. But there are a lot of good things being shown as well, such as how happy some of the Iraqi's are for being liberated . . . and that speech from the guy last night about how the Iraqi's are people just like the Marines were - and that they weren't there to destroy their way of life.
I think you are taking a few select characters and leaving out the many that shown strong morals and directly question some of the controversial decisions made by leadership.
EDIT: Also, considering it is being created (and even stars) some of the people who were in this particular unit - apparently for the most part - what you see is pretty much how it went down. It's being pretty universally lauded for being authentic if nothing else - so much so that it doesn't appeal to a mass audience. Like it or not, women and children have been killed in Iraq - I think this shows that that is an unfortunate part of war but it can't take away from the overall goal that this Marine unit set out to accomplish.
