Found this on deadspin...

Watch the video in this link...the catcher straight up ducks and allows the pitch to pass by him and it drills the umpire in the face. Hilarious, right?

Well, the catcher had an invitation to walk on for the team next year at the college he'll be attending....not anymore.

That catchers an idiot, not because he wanted to get the ump a little something but the way he did it. You're supposed to call fast ball low and let it bean him in the shin where alot of umps don't protect themselves. Man whose teaching these catchers now a days.

I was an umpire for eight years or so, and have many friends who do the games around Northern Virginia. This kid will hopefully get more than what he deserves, he's a waste of air.

wow you're right, they should hang him naked by his feet in the town common, tar and feather him and then throw rocks at him till he is dead.
Im not condoning what he did but i think waste of air might be a tad harsh.

Damn. Now that's a shining example of "Stupid is as stupid does."

I thought it was a deal set up between him and the pitcher, since the pitcher wanted to get back at the ump for calling his brother out on strikes... seems like people are being too harsh on the catcher... what about the pitcher who is nationally recognized?

Actually, the way you do this is by jumping out like it's a pitchout and blaming it on the pitcher for missing the sign. This is a common tactic if the umpire is squeezing the zone or leaning on the catcher.

I always went for the shin ball when I was behind the plate, nothing ever to explain other than I missed the pitched. I remember my sophmore year of high school, ump was calling a truly unfair game, fast ball right in the shin bone, dude fell right to the ground. It took all I had not to laugh.

You must be so proud, devising clever ways to hurt a person with a speeding fastball.

With any luck at all, you got your asses thrown out of the game.

I threw a little too hard for our catcher to trust shenaningans like that. He was afraid I would skip one at his nuts. If there was a runner on base we would use the botched pitchout. If the bases were clear he would setup a little outside and I would aim for the umpire's shoulder. My catcher would ***** to the blue that I crossed him up.

Well, that's not quite what I had in mind. However, I am glad to see that the catcher's chance to walk on in college has been revoked. At the very least, both players should be thrown off their high school team, suspended, and not be allowed to walk at their graduation, assuming they're seniors. I think his parents should be forced to pay the fine for the school, or split it between them and the parents of the pitcher. They were doing this because they didn't agree with a call earlier in the game that went against their team, specifically against the brother of one of the players. So yes, as far as I'm concerned, they are wasting air.

This was somewhat distressing. I don't know Mufumonk well, but SkinsOrlando...well, I guess I had a poor read on you buddy. The fact that you guys are trading stories about trying to hurt people ten years later is pretty shameful in itself. Not to mention the stupidty of the shin ball. Up here at least, shin guards are a required part of the umpires uniform, so your tactic would have failed. As far as I know, they're required of high school umpires everywhere, which makes me think neither of you actually played high school ball.

I'm sure this is where you'll tell me you were all state, threw 95 MPH and hit a thousand homeruns, but didn't play in college because of an arm injury. Congratulations....you also tried to hurt people on purpose:applause: :applause:

So because he let a pitch hit the umpire (which he should NOT have done), he should have his invitation to play at college revoked, should not be allowed to walk at graduation, and should be forced to have his parents pay the fine? And all this at the very least? Wow, you really are as big a tool as I thought you were.

I played my high school ball in Ohio, I don't recall ever seeing an ump with shin guards. Now as to the fact that I did things like that, yep I did, am I proud of it, not really, but I did it and don't see the harm in it. You get behind that plate and call a BS game, expect some retaliation. When the opposing pitcher gets the black and I can't get that for my guy, get stung.

Same here. Catcher in Cincy and we did the same stuff. If you can't handle getting hit, don't ump or catch (or hell hit for that matter)...it's part of the game. Retaliation happens in baseball all the time...but we'll hear about how wrong it is to intentionally throw at someone too.

Well you were right about one thing. I did blow my shoulder out. I only threw a heavy 91-92 which was just hard enough to get me noticed (why couldn't I have been a southpaw?). I was only 2nd team All-State but I did throw for U of MD and was on the '95 CGL champion Maryland Bombers squad. I spent a year in the Rangers system, after Mark Toomey (scout) saw me throw, before tearing my rotator cuff while playing for their Rookie squad. And I never tried to hurt anyone. But I was never afraid to send a message, whether it was to a player or an umpire with a strikezone the size of a peanut.
