wonderful article, i was a big time admirer of pat. he was and still my favorite player on defense. yes, i watched him play, and this guy was fearless. never seen a competitor like him at his size. he always took on anyone, not like today. use to watch him tackle jim brown, jim taylor, never took a step backwards, and never used body blocks to bring a back down. thanks for reminding me of this true warrior.

His wife was my spanish teacher at Park View in Sterling, VA back in 95'. She was a sweet woman. I also played sports with/against his son Marty, cool kid and very good baseball player.

Was and is my favorite football player of alltime. Great read. I met Fischer at a flag football game between the Skins and Cowboys at RFK back in the late 80s, I believe. Really nice guy.

I still remember the Mel Gray play (I won't say it was the Mel Gray "catch", since it wasn't a catch). I don't care if Joe Gibbs was part of the Cardinals' coaching staff then or not - the refs rooked the 'skins that game.

I've got an autographed football from the entire '72 Skins team given to me when I was a kid in the hospital that year by my next door neighbor, Charley Harraway -- it's my most prized possession. Pat signed it, and he and Charley were two of my favorite players of that team. He was a beast. Absolutely knocked the snot out of guys twice his size.

Pat does alot of signings with Vets from the 70s & 80s. My brother and me have talked with him a few times. Funny experience, first time I met him I was at a WalMart on a Saturday during the Fall out in Ferry Farms Va. Well beside the store was a minature traveling version of the NFL Experience. I guess WalMart was promoting it. Well the wife goes in and I wander over to take a look at a few Skins Cheerleaders that were there to sign calendars. Needing a smoke I sneak to the side of the tent and standing there is this small guy burning one already. Well I say hey, and we start talking about the Skins blah blah blah, and after 15 minutes or so , I tell the guy nice talking to him and am about to walk away when I realize I never introduced myself. So I say "by the way Im Bob so and so and nice talking to you." and he goes "Im Pat Fisher". Man I about fell out, got and autograph, talked about that great hit he had on Calvin Hill (sent CHs helmet flying), and about piggybanking on Harold Carmichaels back. Just a great guy, sat there had a another smoke with him , invited him to a dove hunt( which he cordially turn down), then I left. Just a memory I never forget being able to hang out and talk with a Redskin Legend you idolized when you were a kid.

I just made a player on GLB this week called Pat Fischer with the man himself as the avatar.

He was before my time (plus we only got football over here from 82 on) but I have seen film and he is one of my favourite players (hence the GLB build).
