Because we wouldn't be able able to offer him more than $5.9 million this year and I'm sure he has a $10-$12 million a year offer from the Bobcats

if the Wizards were going to go after a front court player in FA, they certainly wouldn't have drafted McGee at #18.
that move should have showed you that the team is not going to significantly alter its makeup for 2008.
Grunfeld is convinced that with a healthy team the Wizards are a 50-52 win club that will advance in the postseason.
Personally, I think the club needs a true veteran power forward who can come off the bench and spell Jamison or allow Jamison to move to the three spot when Butler is off the court and play defense and pull down some boards.
But the Wizards don't seem to agree.
The club has assembled a cast of very tall and very lean young men it hopes will literally GROW into a frontcourt role with the team - Blatche, Pecherov, McGee, McGuire, etc.
What I wouldn't give to see a PF who goes 6'8 and 250 and can throw some elbows :)

If we didn't have Etan and Daniels contracts, we could go get him. But alas, we tie all our money up in a few players and can't get better guys around our stars.

not at all, Grunfeld didn't bring in a power foward or center of any significance because that would mean having to get rid of Jamison AND Arenas, and personally I like the combination of those two better than Brand (or any other PF). The MLE allows us to spend up to $5.9M on players after we pass the salary cap (which pretty much Jamison or Arenas alone would do) and signing a solid foward would likely cost at the very least $8M per year, and keep in mind Darko Milicic got a $7M per year deal when the MLE was $5.3M. Pretty much the only players we are capable of bringing in is a past their prime role player such as Posey or maybe somebody like Kurt Thomas.

Ya'll need to stop complaining about Etan and AD's contracts.
Every team has a ton of salary mistakes...some many more than others. The Knicks have like, every single player. The Wiz are extremely fortunate to have only one real "mistake" in Etan, and that looks much worse in your mind just because he had to miss last year. If he is really fully recovered, he's a hard-nosed player that plays D, rebounds, and can score once in a while.
AD I would not call a mistake at all. He's been extremely valuable to us as a backup PG that's had to fill in a lot.
If we didn't have a couple mistakes, we'd have won seven championships by now, but some mistakes come with the business, and Ernie makes significantly less than most other GMs.
If we can just convince someone like Matt Barnes to join us now, we'd be set.
And I don't think drafting McGee means we didn't want a frontcourt upgrade. He's just the best thing that came to us at 18, where we kinda got stuck, so we took him. If there was any way we could work a sign-and-trade for Okafor or something, Ernie would be drooling.

Up to this point, I'm still not sure why we drafted Pecherov, this guy really needs to step his game up. If not, he needs to go, he takin up space.

Agreed he needs to step his game up. But remember this guy was hurt the first part of the season. Then played very limited minutes during the season because Eddie Jordan was doing everything in his power to win games despite missing his star player. And this was his first year away from home learning a new language and the NBA style of playing.
He looked pretty good in Summer League play last year. I would give him another year before we can pass judgement. I mean his first year is similiar to Blatche's first year with the Wiz. And remember that Pecherov is also pretty young I think he is only 20 or 21.

I dont complain about AD, but I will complain about Woody and Poet.
We need to dump their contracts.let someone else take those on.
Get Barnes and Beidrins instead....that is alot better use of that money.

Without Brendan Haywood, this team would be total garbage on the defensive end.
Everyone and anyone who thinks he is not good or needs to go is clearly not watching Wizards basketball. He has the single most impact than any other player on the roster at the defensive end for us.
Without him we are the worst defensive team in the league and we won't be close to the 29th best one. Haywood is one of the best centers in the East right now.
