This year, Madden is supposed to have made quite a few improvements. All the ones I have heard deal strictly with gameplay. The running is supposed to be more natural where the runner can do double moves and a combination of jukes stringed together. The tackling has also been sured up (I dont know how many times I dove at a runner and nothing happened...very annoying). Also celebrations and other realistic traits have been added to the game. Has anyone heard anything else about it? I really would like to know if the franchise mode was improved.

Revamped franchise mode: Simulated stats have been improved (e.g. fewer running backs (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Running_backs) gaining 2,000+ yards in one season), rivalry games (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sports_rivalry) have special value and played games have more crowd and television intensity.

I'm also pumped about the ability to return field goals. After Hester, Vasher, and Cromartie's 100+ yard FG returns, I can't wait to duplicate it. I still sometimes end up doing punt block and watching the ball aimlessly bouncing off Randle El.

Slide protection, smart routes, field goal nets, weather having more of an impact on gameplay, and of course, the revamped graphics, are other features I'm looking forward to.

Madden 09 feature list:

*Madden IQ system: players train in a holographic environment, which grants them a "Madden IQ" based on their practice in 12 different drills. The game's difficulty adjusts itself to the player's Madden IQ. This can increase or decrease based on a player's performance in a game.

*EA Sports Backtrack: the game analyzes the player's playing ability and points out mistakes during gameplay a la a television- styled telestrator

*EA Sports Rewind: By just hitting a button, the situation of the play actually rewinds and you're able to try the situation again, and hopefully take the game's advice. You will be able to set the number of Rewinds in the game to 0,1,3,5, or unlimited.

*Tighter Multiplayer Battles: Ability for you and your opponent to play on different difficulty levels for tighter games (handicap). You can also do this on a basis of number of rewinds for each player.

*Madden Moments: Ability to play and relive the most exciting moments of the '07-'08 NFL football season

*Upload Replays : Ability to send replays to EA sports world for people to view over the internet on sites such as MySpace and YouTube.

*Importable Fantasy Football Teams: Available via download for the Xbox 360 and PS3, Fantasy Football will let you conduct your actual fantasy football drafts on the console with the addition of Madden-esque graphics and draft commentary. Once you're finished, you will be able to upload your fantasy teams into Madden 09 and face off against other fantasy teams (positions not drafted on the fantasy team will be randomly filled).

*Improved Online:
- Leagues: server- based leagues, supporting up to 32 players, with full schedules including the playoffs and the Super Bowl as well as a draft and trade support. Schedules can be played in a round-robin style as well.

-Weather in Online Games (Random)

*Revamped graphics:
-Improved stadium models
-new weather particle system
-new lighting models
-new player models
-camera flashes

-New Animations
-New Running Engine
-New Tackling Engine
-User-controlled celebrations (weather-specific)
-Ability to run back missed field goals
-Button Icons above Wrs start to fade as you move the QB back (only happens in higher difficulty levels)

-Fixed Turnover Problem (that was in 08 without the patch)

-rivalry games have special value and have more crowd and television intensity along with a warmer color temperature

*On-demand picture- in-picture play-call window: Picture-in-picture style interface to allow the player to see key information and call plays and formations, view replays, make substitutions, challenge plays, etc., without leaving the current window.

*New Dynamic Camera System:
- The new madden camera system moves with your receivers so they will never fall out of view during gameplay. The camera automatically pans out, zooms in, and adjusts angles to keep the receivers in screen.
-Once you complete that pass, if the ball carrier happens to break away from his defenders, the ActionCam will rock back and forth, zoom in and follow the ball carrier, giving you that intense feeling that you're sprinting alongside him.
-If a defender happens to really lay into the ball carrier, the Big Hit Camera will rattle the screen with the force of the crunch.

Not sure I just copy and pasted that from somewhere. Madden is never going to be as great as it could be without competition.

Thank god. I played a dude at GameStop in the national Madden tourney and this is all he did. Randy Moss goes deep, Randy Moss jumps 10 feet in the air, Randy Moss gets a 40 yard gain. Unstoppable.
