View Full Version : Why I love Al Michaels

I love Al Michaels as a play by play guy, and much of his charm can be attributed to the little things he says which are sometimes hard to catch, but are pretty funny or insightful.

During the HOF game tonight, he was talking about the subterfuge that goes on with NFL injury reports and compared getting an accurate report to "accessing Amnesty International's website in Beijing." I thought that funny, and I respect his balls in calling out the Chinese government on national TV, especially considering that NBC is the broadcaster for the Olympics.

So here's to Al!

He will one day be in the HOF also.

Great broadcaster.

Not a big fan. I don't put much stock into broadcasters.

I guess you missed his little quip about how old Zorn will look if we go 5-11.

Other than that, I have always liked the guy and felt that he likes the Skins. He did say hail to the redskins tonight in the end.

Regardless of his attitude towards the Skins (I do think he shows less disdain for us than other play by play guys like the scrubs Fox always assigns), he's just a quality professional who isn't afraid to do say things he thinks are right.

Except for the part where he tried to sing HTTR he was ok tonight. Madden though was his usual "here's a guy who just scored which means he'll put points on the scoreboard".

Yep, this is a great example, well caught. Al is one of the all-time greats, IMO. His play-by-play is really good, but it's the stuff he says between the plays that puts him at the top.

Indeed. He's simply one of the best.

I don't see what the big deal is with this comment. He said "if" not "will".:whoknows:

And let's not forget one of the greatest calls in the history of sports:

Do you believe in miracles? Yes! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QTev5pSuYLk)

Still gives me goose bumps. He is one of the greatest of all-time.

Al in the pre-season simply isn't Al, because he doesn't give you that moment in the fourth quarter where he lets you know who he bet on.

"And a lot of us are REALLY interested in how this extra point turns out....."

Yeah you really can't complain about Al's broadcasting. As far as Zorn's age, I don't think what he said is untrue. Coaching is a hard job, and it's one that ages people anyway, but especiall when you lose.

I was VERY surprised when he made that comment, because of how super-sensitive NBC and the Chinese are about advertising their deplorable human rights record. Good for him.

Also, let's not forget that Al's the one who called the 2005 Monday Night Miracle, "And Moss has it, again!" That was sweet. Maybe among the best moments of my life.

i wish you could mute broadcasters with 1 button like u can change it to SAP.

I HATE broadcasters, its like people talking while i'm watching a movie
