An extremely reliable and well placed source in the intelligence community has informed me that Ron Suskind’s revelation that the White House ordered the preparation of a forged letter linking Saddam Hussein to al-Qaeda and also to attempts made to obtain yellowcake uranium is correct but that a number of details are wrong.
The Suskind account states that two senior CIA officers Robert Richer and John Maguire supervised the preparation of the document under direct orders coming from Director George Tenet. Not so, says my source. Tenet is for once telling the truth when he states that he would not have undermined himself by preparing such a document while at the same time insisting publicly that there was no connection between Saddam and al-Qaeda. Richer and Maguire have both denied that they were involved with the forgery and it should also be noted that preparation of such a document to mislead the media is illegal and they could have wound up in jail.
My source also notes that Dick Cheney, who was behind the forgery, hated and mistrusted the Agency and would not have used it for such a sensitive assignment. Instead, he went to Doug Feith’s Office of Special Plans and asked them to do the job. The Pentagon has its own false documents center, primarily used to produce fake papers for Delta Force and other special ops officers traveling under cover as businessmen. It was Feith’s office that produced the letter and then surfaced it to the media in Iraq. Unlike the Agency, the Pentagon had no restrictions on it regarding the production of false information to mislead the public. Indeed, one might argue that Doug Feith’s office specialized in such activity

I don't see why this matters.
The dems didn't have the sack to impeach over NSA or mail-opening; and later became complicit in telecomm immunity.
They're sure as hell not going to impeach this late in the game. You remember what happened to Clinton's approval rating.

Sarge, why do you support forgery? I figured a patriot like you would be against this.
EDIT: Good point HH.

Forget if they will start impeachment proceedings. The question is SHOULD they?

If this can be proven? Absolutely.
I think they should have over NSA.
I think they should have over mail opening.
But no. We're too worried about pissing around with overt CIA agents.
Who the hell is "supporting and defending the Constitution of the United States?"
It ain't the president.
It ain't the congress.
The SCOTUS....meh, a little.
Who's checking?
Who's balancing?
How this guy will complete his second term is completely beyond me.
(And you guys know my background.)

Assuming there is a forgery, I don't think the administration is going to readily make it available to you or I. ;)

I certainly believe Bush has done more impeachable things than the previous president. I also think it's a damn shame that this country is constantly looking for a reason to impeach the president. No honor among thieves.
A quote that comes to mind for this situation:
"The more questions you ask the more lies you get told."

Let's start the case for Impeach Obama now; so we can have ready say about 6 months after he is president.

And if Obama is elected and commits an impeachable offense...come back and talk to me. :)

A VERY reliable source has informed me that (insert unproven rumor here). I am offering NO proof other than my word. This should be enough because my source is airtight (although I'm not telling you who it is). I believe that this is close enough to the mass suspicion that it will just become fact.
Don't get me wrong, IF this is true and proven to be fact, then put the nails to em. Problem is that no one has actually proven anything. This country is getting very sloppy. The NYT has become a worthless rag, the enquirer has begun to get legit stories, cable news is becoming nothing more than puppets of the right and left, and WE eat up this **** and ask for seconds.

If we impeach Bush and Cheney now; Queen Nancy becomes president. She would then call of the elections and declare herself queen of the planet.

I am sure it is in possession of the White House or some intelligence department. What matters is the intent, and you have to prove that to prove that the letter IS indeed false.
Do you think they are going to roll it out and "test" it? This is just another trend in the behavior of this current administration. It has been repeated more then once that the White House had every intention to invade Iraq, no matter what it took in a campaign of misinformation. And that is why this letter is believable to many people: The White House has shown a trend to be secretive as well as dishonest.
After all, what is the letter? It states that 9-11 attacker Muhammad Atta trained in Iraq. At this point, most folks reject this claim, but it seemed to have served its purpose at that time, if this claim of falsifying the letter actually has some validity to it.
I think some of the circumstantial evidence would point to the believability to of this story; I think that is part of the reason why it continues to have life.

It'll end up like a lost email.
Nobody will be held accountable for this.
Dick can just come out and tell us to mind our own business and leave them alone and we'll just take it.
They will do whatever they want and we will take it because America is fat, lazy and undereducated.
Say somebody everybody seems to love despite being a proven puppet and a lier like Collin Powell came out and said he knew he was producing made up proof to sell to the UN, nobody would care.

Unfortunately for the wing nuts, impeachment must be accompanied by FACTS,not accusation.
But it is entertaining to watch

I have come to believe that Bush should not be impeached, but that Cheney should be. However, it would be a nice gesture if the Secret Service accidentally left without him and the Bush's were forced to remain in China.
