Coles fires back at rude fan

It's no secret Jets receiver Laveranues Coles and the team's former quarterback, Chad Pennington, were extremely close. And it's no secret he hasn't taken Pennington's release well.
So when a fan insulted Pennington during Monday's practice, Coles let the individual know exactly how he felt about his comment.
After a deep pass down the left sideline to Coles, from Brett Favre, that was incomplete (pass interference on cornerback Darrelle Revis on the play), the receiver went over to the sideline to get some water.
While standing by the water cooler, the fan yelled, "Chad could never throw it that far."
Coles fired back, "F@*# you."
Coles is so upset about Pennington's release, he has refused to do all interviews since Chad's departure.
Awww, booo hoo.

The man is never happy. he always hates his contract, he always feels like he's doing the team a favor by playing a little banged up and if something doesn't go his way, he blows up.
Seriously, the roster changes every year and people are going to come and go. Be a professional, man.

Newsflash to Coles: Chad Pennington isn't dead. He's just on another team. The Jets didn't murder him.
Coles is such a whiner that he doesn't seem to grasp that he might have a shot at the playoffs this year with Favre instead of Pennington.

On the one hand I don't blame Coles for being mad, but your job involves dealing with hecklers. That's just part of the gig. If he really felt he had to say something it could've been classier than that.

First off they are Jet fans what more do you expect? And second, Pennington blows so why not boo him?

Id be pissed if I was on the Jets too. They are no where close to being in the league of the Patriots. Essentially they would have to beat New England, Indianapolis, San Diego, Pittsburgh and Jacksonville for sure and probably Cleveland. The AFC is more consistant then the NFC. If Favre went to and NFC team it would have been a better move if he wanted one last run at the super bowl. In the AFC he is pretty much doomed!

Lavernaeious Coles is not happy unless he is unhappy. It's as if he can't function unless he finds something to be pissed off about. I'm sure it extends from his parents naming him Lavernaeious.
(Lavernaeious is a tough name to spell. Here's a quick tip to help in spelling it correctly) -
Type "Lavern"
Followed by all the vowels in the alphabet, in order: "a.e.i.o.u."
Followed by "s"
Voila, "Lavernaeious"!

I don't see it that way. It's not like the Jets turfed a great QB for Favre.
Chad Pennington wasn't getting the Jets to the playoffs.
Worst case scenario, the Jets go 5-11, and they gave up a third round pick.
Not a disaster by any means.

The Jets are renting Favre for a year or 2 TOPS! They are no where near winning the superbowl. They have to overtake the Patriots, Colts, Jaguars, Chargers, Steelers and Browns (feels weird saying the Browns in the same sentence with other good teams lol). They might edge out one or 2 of those teams but not all of them. The AFC clearly has the same teams every year that you have to overtake the go to the superbowl. Kellen Clemens might of had a future in New York if he was given a chance to succeed. All they did now was just stunt his growth since he wont be starting for 2 years. Then when Favre decides to not pull this **** anymore with retiring and really goes for good, Clemens will be called upon again with 2 years away from starting. Not to mention the way it could screw with his confidence since the team went out to bring Favre in now instead of sticking with him. By taking Favre on, they have essentially set their franchise back about 5 years. The Jets could have learned whether they have a decent franchise QB in Clemens or if they need to draft one. Instead they wont know that for about 3-4 years.
If Favre wanted to win another superbowl he picked the wrong team to attempt it with. His best chances were with teams like Minnesota, Tampa Bay and us. Don't get me wrong I wouldnt want Favre ANYWHERE near our team but we rode to the playoffs with a team that was destroyed with injuries and almost pulled out a victory on the road in one of the toughest places to play. The Vikings were his best bet. If they actually had a QB they could be very very dangerous. It seems to me Favre didn't weigh his options very well or he is just a liar and its all about the money not actually playing again. I think he should have stayed retired and taken the money the Packers offered.

Do you really think the Jets are a superbowl contender this or possibly next year? Cuz thats all you are getting out of Favre. It was a very stupid move to bring him in. If they didn't bring him in then they could have seen what they had with Clemens and drafted a Stafford or Tebow to being their QB for the next 12-15 years. Instead they won't be able to for about 3-4 years. Essentially setting them back.

All he said was that Pennington "could never throw it that far". In the world of fan rudeness that rates about a 2 on a scale of 1-10. And it definitely did NOT deserve a "**** you" from ANY player. Besides, the guy who said it was probably right lol...

Yeah Coles just never seems to be happy . . . He has always had a bad attitude, no matter where he is. Wasn't he pissed off at the Jets before coming to Washington as well? And here in D.C. he wasn't exactly a consummate pro. To say that to fan for something as harmless as that is uncalled for.

Completely inappropriate on Coles' part. Granted, it was a classless thing to say about Pennington, but it was by no means over the line. In fact, in the proper context, I might be incorrect in classifying it as classless (I'm just assuming it was since it is the Jets).
Either way, Coles needs to put on his big-boy pants and play with the better QB.

Wow, where does one start with this one? I might have to cut this up into smaller pieces an answer some of these.

The Jets share a stadium that proved last year that if you get into the playoffs, you have as good of a chance as anyone. If you get in, anything can happen. With Pennington, the Jets were 6-10 at best. Favre is an upgrade.
Kellen Clemens might of had a future in New York if he was given a chance to succeed. All they did now was just stunt his growth since he wont be starting for 2 years. The Jets already know what they have in Kellen Clemens. That's Jack ****. Pennington was going to be the starter this year. If the Jets had any faith in Clemens, they wouldn't have made this deal. The franchise isn't set back by any means, they actually won't suck this year because they now have a competent quarterback.

Where have you been the past month? You know that Favre wasn't a free agent, right? Him & the Packers fought over going to Minnesota, remember? The Packers traded him out of the conference because they didn't want to see him once or twice a year. At the end of the day he just wanted to play ball, and the Jets were his only option....

Let me get this straight. It's all about the money, but he left TWICE AS MUCH on the table so he could keep playing rather than staying home. People contradict themselves all the time, but it's not very often you see it in consecutive sentences.....

My only problem with your post is this portion right here . . . The Giants did not win any playoff games in the Jersey . . . So where does this idea of a home-field advantage come from? They won in Tampa, in Dallas, and in Green Bay.

He was simply saying that the team with which the Jets share a stadium is an example of the mantra that you only need to get into the playoffs to have a shot. Where the games were played is irrelevant. :2cents:

The difference, I'm assuming, is that for all we know the Jets fan was yelling something in an excited manner about his current team (Favre > Pennington). I have no problem with a player defending a current player to a fan...however, either way, it needs to be less combative no matter what.

The Giants played the ultimate perfect game to beat the Patriots. If the Jets would make the playoffs, they would have to play like that every week in the playoffs. Im sure you can agree that if they Giants played the Patriots 4 times they would have most likely lost the other 3 times.
So instead of drafting a QB for the future, they will rent Favre for 2 years and be back in the same place they were last year or worse. Favre doesn't make them a 13-3 team. The Jets have become the Redskins of years past, trying to bring in a slew of FA and traded player and you think they are a good team now. They have no running game. They have one decent WR maybe 2 but thats stretching it. A rookie TE, and a spotty defense. They are no where near where they need to be to win a superbowl.
I know Favre wasn't a free agent and he wanted to play in Minnesota. But did he really think that the Packers would trade him to a division rival or even an NFC team at all? It basically screwed him by going to the AFC. I would bet anything that he was calling Green Bays bluff that they would make him a #2 QB because it would piss off the fans that love him so much and he is better the Rodgers. In turn they pulled the best move by getting rid of him to an AFC team that has no shot at winning a superbowl or making it there for that matter.
I am not contradicting myself but the Jets have no QB to back up Favre. If for some reason he went down for this year they would be screwed. So when his current contract us up, he has all the upper hand and will have the Jets by the nuts. So he will basically be getting he way again to be paid because the Jets have no other choice because they will have neglected to invest in a franchise QB instead of trying to fix the bleeding with a Favre band-aid!
