View Full Version : Antonio Pierce on PTI...How could we have let him go!?

Just watched Antonio Pierce on PTI. He was talking about taking over the role of leader on the defense now that Strahan is out. He was poised, confident, and seemed genuinely excited about being the face of the defense.
I know this is re-opening old wounds, but how on earth did we let this guy go!? And do you think letting Antonio Pierce go has been the biggest mistake in the Snyder era (including Archuleta, Lloyd, etc)?

Two words: Laverneus Coles.
Also we didn't let him go. He decided to sign with the Giants when we couldn't give him a few dollars more. The Giants were probably able to give him more money up front than we were able to do.
Anyways, that's all in the past. While he's a great story, we've moved on and gotten someone who IMO is a superior player. Too bad Pierce can't seem to move on.

Things happen he got his break we should be happy for him,,, Can't Get mad at snyder for this one,,,, who knew a stand out on special teams would turn to an every down MLB like Pierce did,,,,,,,
its not like he left us with a hole at MLB we got FLETCHER and he's a BEAST

You want to know what I think of Antonio Pierce?
**** Antonio Pierce
He played well in Williams system, sure, but he is a good MLB, nothing fantastic. He left us for barely a bit more money and he's been bitter since.

I'm happy with Fletcher. Plus he isn't a head case nor does he get flagged for barking the cadence of the opponent.

Yeah having London Fletcher makes me forget all about Pierce easily. I like AP, though he played very well for us, was bright spot and defensive general.

i'd be lying if I didnt say we should have done more to keep him, but that was during the snyder free spending days.

It was a mistake not to match, especially for the 'slotting' reason Gibbs offered for the decision. He even admitted this later on. However, there's absolutely nothing constructive in rehashing this issue over and over and over and over and over and over. It's done, let's move on already.
Besides, this issue has already been rectified by adding an even better player in Fletcher, then drafting his heir apparent in H.B. Blades (who will end up better than Pierce as well). It took two years, but the Skins are now well and fully stocked at that position with better players.
So, I repeat, let's move on already.

I wanted to keep him in 05 and felt it was a mistake letting him go (and smoot).
But unlike Smoot, Pierce has shown himself to be a grade A jerk so I bid him good riddance and would not want him back even if we could get him.

We all wanted to keep him, but New York offered him a real big contract. It sucks, but thats the NFL.

It was a mistake letting him go but it only cost us one year. Pierce is a good high energy guy but he is not London Fletcher and never will be.

Pierce is 29, while London Fletcher is 33....
I love Fletcher, and love him more than I would ever love Pierce. I am just saying that saying Fletcher is better than Pierce isn't the most sound argument. Pierce has many more years left in him than Fletcher...

Fletcher's health over his NFL career is enough to take him over Pierce anyday!

But Fletcher is a better leader IMO. Plus he's mentoring a young lb in the name of HB Blades to be the younger version of Fletcher.
I didn't want AP to go, but he wanted more money than he probably deserved at the time. But since then, he's proved he was worth the gamble.
Move on...

We're better off with Fletcher.
Good for him to find a good contract and he's a better player now than he was with us. But no freaking interview is going to make me miss him when we have Fletcher. Look at the stats for the last decade or so.

I miss Antonio and it's a tough pill to swallow that he made the right decision. He's got a ring and Dan Snyder doesn't. It all comes down to that. However, it doesn't matter to me in the slightest where Antonio Pierce is. He didn't want to be here. Best wishes and F him.
Champ Bailey too. I root for the uniform, not the player.

What I wouldn't give to have Ryan Clark back. The best safety back up out there and the skins just tossed him out.

Consistently bad mouth the team after leaving...I think he did it about 5 times more than all the other ex-players combined. And he was still doing so a few years after going to the Giants. He was an undrafted FA, and we gave him a chance to show his stuff...but he sure didn't act as if he was greatful for the opportunity even if it meant he and the team had to part ways later on. Many Skins fans hated losing him and said so...until he decided to open his mouth ...

Yeah. No sense in bringing up old news. I like Fletcher and we drafted Blades. We really need some youth at OLB with some depth behind Washington and McIntosh.

I dunno, I think Pierce is a pretty cool name for an NFL Linebacker...

When a low-round draft pick player scrubs it up for a couple of years, and then all of a sudden has one good season, you typically don't give him the same size contract as the star linebacker on the team who has produced for years. We still did offer Pierce a very nice contract. However, as another poster already pointed out, Pierceleft for more money upfront from the Giants. Which is why when Pierce cries about the Skins to the media like some jilted lover, it shows what kind of guy he really is. He acts like we screwed him over, when really it was HIS choice. He still has friends on the squad. Smoot said he regretted leaving the Skins for extra money upfront. Sometimes Pierce's comments give a sense of that same regret, which is weird given he has won a Superbowl with the Giants and all. Oh well, whatever. We've been a top 10 D without him.

The last time I saw Antonio Pierce in person Jason Campbell was stiff arming him into the dirt.
Loved what he did when Grilliams gave him an opportunity.
Hate the way he's conducted himself since. He never shuts up about us, like a jilted ex-wife.

ANyone who thinks letting Pierce go was a good idea is just rewriting history or being a front office apologist.
It was a bad move, and it doesn't matter that Fletcher is playing well. Losing Pierce was a mistake.

Actually, just the fact that the "Giants" won the SB is the part that I hate. So many people wanted the Pats to go down so they wouldn't have a perfect record or win despite cheating. Not me. Now we stil continue to hear the same crap from Giant fans 6 months later. Hope the Redskins fans who rooted for them are happy that the Giants fans come in here and throw it up in our faces, especially when we let them off the hook in week 3. I NEVER root for the Cowpukes, Philthy or the VaGiants in the playoffs or SB.

We did get one good year our of an undersized Marshall and struggled to find his replacement, but like someone else said, we've been a top 10 defense since Pierce left. I don't think people are saying it was a good idea, but no use crying over spilled milk after 4 years.

Agreed. We let him go because he is a trash talking low class overrated MLB who blows as many plays as he makes. Marshall did as good of a job those first couple yrs and Fletcher has been a huge upgrade. Thats why we let him go.
