BUNKLEY GETS BURGLED
Posted by Mike Florio on August 13, 2008, 9:04 a.m. EDT
More than two years ago, we reported that Eagles defensive tackle Brodrick Bunkley had been cited for illegal possession of a firearm.
He had the ultimate alibi — it wasn’t him. Instead, it was receiver Jabar Gaffney. (And we’re pleased to announce that all applicable statute of limitations have expired.)
Moving forward, Bunkley has another alibi, if it ever happens again. He owns no guns because they all were stolen from his house.
According to the Philadelphia Daily News, Bunkley returned to his South Philadelphia townhouse after the preseason opener in Pittsburgh to find the place ransacked. According to police records, Bunkley said that the thieves absconded with guns, video-game systems, and cameras having an oddly-precise value of $7,950.
Bunkley’s former stash of firearms included two Desert Eagle .50-caliber handguns, an Armalite rifle, a custom-made .223-caliber rifle, and a .45-caliber Glock handgun.
It’s unknown whether Bunkley has a security system at his Philadelphia residence. Really, any NFL player should seriously consider taking such precautions, especially since their travel schedules are readily available to the general public.

They should hire a private house sitter if they don't have a spouse or relative. The theives were probably coming back to re-steal their guns that he stole from them.

Consider? I would say you'd be stupid not to, since everybody knows you're loaded and when you're gone.
While it's possible that Bunkley set the whole thing up I don't think the round number is that suspicious. I had my dorm room ransacked one time and the list I gave the police/insurance company was just estimated prices. They both said that was fine.

$7,950 isn't even very oddly precise. I'd say oddly precise would be $8,000, $7,000, or $7,500. Considering most insurance companies have no issue with rounded values of items, I'd say $7,950 isn't even remotely suspicious.
Sometimes this Florio guy is a real, to use his term, "turd." They guy just got his house robbed. Give him a freaking break.

On the surface nothing to see here. I wonder why he didn't have a big gun safe? Most of the people I know that have mulitple guns, including long guns, have a big gun safe.
Again, nothing on the surface that is odd about this. Just have to keep tabs on the future.

I agree that $7950 isn't an "oddly-precise" value. Oddly precise would be $7936.52

$7950 is an odd value for insurance purposes. Its not like his homeowners deductible is $50 bucks. Put yourself in that position-house ransacked, police arrive, they start questioning and you are frazzled. Would you pull a number like this for six guns, a PS3, and camera equipment. I guarantee I would have said 8 g's, or probably 10 g's since it is for insurance purposes (which are always inflated-just watch Antiques Roadshow!).
Sounds like a south philly swindle here!

You're kidding, right? He probably just gave values for individual items, and the tally of those values added up to $7950. The lengths some people will go (reporter included) to find something that isn't there or insinuate as such is absurd. Even if Bunk were to be involved in some south philly swindle, a freaking total dollar value of $7950 doesn't remotely qualify as evidence of such a setup.

I agree on the gun safe (I have 2 at my house) although the thieves could have just loaded it up on a truck and opened it later. That would have been very bold though.

If you happen to know his whereabouts contact Police officials immediately. He is considered armed and dangerous and is currently hanging around other serious felons and habitual lawbreakers. He was last seen in Oxnard, Ca.
