A league source tells us that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (http://www.profootballtalk.com/2008/09/11/bucs-shopping-garcia/#) are trying to trade quarterback Jeff Garcia. Per the source, the Bucs are willing to take anything they can get for Garcia, who’s in the final season of a two-year contract.
The problem is the relationship between Garcia and coach Jon Gruden (http://www.profootballtalk.com/2008/09/11/bucs-shopping-garcia/#). They’re “ready to kill each other,” the source said.
It’s so bad that there’s a possibility (albeit slim at this point) that the Bucs will ultimately cut Garcia.
On Wednesday, Gruden declared that Brian Griese will start for the Bucs on Sunday against the Falcons (http://www.profootballtalk.com/2008/09/11/bucs-shopping-garcia/#). Garcia reportedly has an ankle injury.
If Garcia is cut, he’ll be entitled to receive the balance of his $2 million salary as termination pay.

Shoot, I'm interested. Collins for Garcia! I started a thread in the Stadium section. Think about how Garcia could lead the team if JC doesn't work out. He could develop Brennan too. He is Mr. WCO...

I know, but a lot of their sources come from some where.
If its good enough for Dan Patrick, its good enough for me:)

I rather have a QB the team respects and plays for than a QB who will come in, demand an extended contract and try and push JC as the starter and create a division in the locker room.
So yes, I prefer Collins.

good points about not wanting someone to demand an extension and create division...but wouldnt you want a backup who would push JC as the starter? dont you think that would make him better?

And you are sure of that why? Thats pure speculation. If that brought in Garcia in a reserve role and he knew that, why would he act that way?

Only if the problem is that Campbell isn't putting in the time and effort required to get up to speed. From all public utterances, that isn't the case.
Campbell is a guy that needs confidence and patience in waiting for the light bulb to fully come on (if it ever does). Bringing a veteran in who has been groomed in the system and is only interested in playing does not help that cause.
BTW, Garcia and Collins may be close in age, but Garcia has FAR more mileage on him. Really, with as few licks as he's taken and his style of play, I could see Collins still playing 5 or more years. He doesn't have the wear and tear, he doesn't depend on his legs, and he makes good money. I wouldn't be at all surprised if he is still playing when he is 45.

But how much more time and money do you want to keep a guy like Collins around? I know he is not a huge burden but I'm sure the team wants to get younger.

Garcia is a gamer, I was rooting to sign him before we acquired Boonell, but that was then and this is now. Sure I would still be excited to have him but at what cost, and it will be a step back IMO.

I'd trade for his wife first.

The age of the backup QB is irrelevant. If a team feels like it has its starter, the backup just needs to be reliable, accepting of is role, and the price has to be right. It's why Collins is almost an ideal backup for Campbell.
