Tennessee is hitting them where it hurts; hunting and fishing permits are being revoked (http://www.us101country.com/cc-common/news/sections/newsarticle.html?feed=259236&article=4252961)

A regulation in Tennessee could mean those who don’t pay their child support could lose their ability to drive and even their permission to hunt or fish. Letters are currently in the mail to parents who owe at least $500 in support and haven’t made payment in 90 days. More then 20,000 licenses are at risk of being taken away.
Professional licenses that could be revoked include those of registered nurses, real estate agents, security guards and teachers. Parents can prevent revocation if they contact their local child support offices to set up payment plans or simply repay the past due amounts.

I agree with the hunting and fishing ones but if you take away a license that makes it possible for a person to work and get money arent you kind of defeating the probability of them being able to pay it back?

I agree that this is a wonderful idea. If these deadbeats are not going to live up to the expectations of parenthood they should have these licenses, permits, etc.... revoked as a punishment.

Too bad they can't take away the hunting and fishing licenses before deadbeats decide to spend their time hunting and fishing instead of working to pay child support.

and that's huge around here. I wear blaze orange if I go to the grocery store around here during hunting season.
Good for the state

Does it hurt the Mother? Yes. But the state loves it. Revenue comes in many forms.

Dumb idea. You take away the guy's professional license, now he can't go to work and get any income at all. Since they took away his hunting license, he has to go poach a deer, to put meat on the table. He gets caught and is given a big ass fine. He can't pay that because you took away his license that allows him to work, so he has no income.
Now, since the government is more concerned about getting their revenue generated by fines, than they are concerned for Betty Sue Sleepsaround and her five kids, who got herself in her own predicament by sleeping around with any swinging dick she sees, forcing the divorce, but since judges side with mothers more than they do with the fathers, she gets custody of the kids, the poor guy that lost all his licenses, has to go to jail for unpaid poaching fines. Now the tax-payers are paying for his imprissonment and her welfare.
So I ask, who wins?
The politicians, because they got some guys on the interwebz applauding their infinite wisdom.

Why not just garnish the deadbeat's wages? There are mechanisms already in place for that.

Thats what they mean in the 2nd paragraph where it says "can prevent revocation if they contact their local child support offices to set up payment plans"

Wage garnishment is involuntary. They take x% right off the top of your check before you ever get it. That's not the same thing as voluntarily setting up a payment plan to avoid punishment.
