Alright, I'm sick of you ass pirates putting down the Big-10 just because Ohio State has been blown out in 1 National Championship game, and pretty uncompetitive in another. So here's the truth...

The Big-10 and the SEC are directly matched up in two bowl tie-ins. One is the Capital One Bowl, the other is the Outback Bowl. Additionally, the Alamo bowl usually matches up the Big-10 vs. the Big-12. Well let's just see how those bowls have turned out...how far back is good enough for you...10 years? 10 years is usually how far back I research things, so we'll start with that.

Capital One Bowl

Now I could be wrong, but it looks like the Big 10 is 7-3 against the SEC in this game over the last 10 years. 7 and ****ing 3.

How about the Outback Bowl?

Looks like we're 4-6 against the SEC in this one, making it a grand total of 11-9 in the two consistent Big-10/SEC bowl matchups over the last 10 years, in favor of the Big-10.

Let's check the Big-10/Big-12 matchup. We have the Alamo Bowl.

The verdict? 5-5 straight up over the past 10 years.

Now, let's just check out the BCS Bowls, because I know you all are just salivating to point this out. The BCS has been in place since 1998, so we'll just look at the entire history.

Big Ten (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Ten_Conference)
7 different schools89.471Wisconsin (2-0)
Ohio State (4-2)
Michigan (1-3)
Purdue (0-1)
Illinois (0-2)
Iowa (0-1)
Penn State (1-0)

Yes, the Big 10 is only 8-9, with the respective records shown here. And yes, the Big-10 is 1-3 against the SEC in that time frame. Seems to be that everyone pays attention to just the big games, which is fair, but the fact remains that the conference is 11-9 against the SEC in the other matchups. Sure, Ohio State got squashed, your best beat our best. Our depth matches up just as well against anyone else, the records prove it.

I'm ignoring the Pac-10, ACC, and Big East in this discussion. The Pac-10 is a 1 horse league, and that horse just got a ticket to the glue factory for this season. The ACC and Big East are weak right now, without question.

So, does anyone else have any smart remarks, or are you just going to hang your hat on two lousy performances from Ohio State and ignore facts, this conference is tough.

You have 11 teams in a conference called the Big 10

But really it looks really good this year. Only one team is sub .500 right now and that's Michigan, one of the all time winningest programs in the history of the game; and they're transitioning into an entirely new system so I'm sure they'll be back soon enough. Haven't really watched enough games this year to really know how the whole conference is doing, but I'll tell you the one thing that really bothers me looking at the standings is how the rankings are done. The 10th team is Illinois and ranked 22, this really shows that preseason rankings should not exist.

Eh - you have to factor in the 2 years that the SEC sent their #3 team to the Outback Bowl to play the #2 team from the Big 10 because their top team went to the MNC game and the Big 10's didn't.

Of course, there is one year also where the Big 10 sent their top team to the MNC and the SEC didn't, so you have to factor that in too.

All said, I truly now think its too early to be crowing about conference strength. Last night's game shows that anyone (again) is vulnerable.

Michigan has always matched up well against the SEC....the Pac10...not so well.

Way to ignore actual numbers...but that's okay, I'd be bitter to if I was in the ACC, and rooting for a team that would get run over by a few of the top Big-10 teams.;) And yes, I said run over, the Hokies would get stomped by Ohio State and Penn State at minimum, and probably by Wisconsin and Illinois.

All said, I truly now think its too early to be crowing about conference strength. Last night's game shows that anyone (again) is vulnerable.

Oh, that's very true, but I'm not so much crowing about the strength of the Big-10 as defending them for being allegedly viewed as a weak conference, based solely on Ohio State's last two bowl performances. It simply isn't true. I would say the SEC is stronger than the Big-10 currently, I'm just pointing out that our conference has been extremely competitive against them over the past decade.

As a Michigan fan, you should be ashamed that you added the words 'one of' to the above sentence.

Maybe if you go back to the beginning of the program in when there were only 38 states in the union :) If you cut it off at post WWII, it's pretty hard to make an argument for Michigan.
