View Full Version : Santana Moss; THE BEST Double-Move Route Runner in the NFL

His double-move routes are a thing of beauty. Since he's been here, I have yet to see anyone who can stay with him 1-on-1. He's taken some flack around here the past couple of seasons, but I think it's safe to say that Tana is BACK!
I think ARE said it best in his post-game interview, his ability to stop and go as quick as he does, is truly just a gift from God. It's unbelievable.
#89 is back, leading our offense in receiveing with JC tossing the rock all around. It's gonna be a fun season.
**** the Cowboys!

He abused the corner that Cowboys' fans praise, Terrance Newman. Newman looked like a fool today.

Dude I have been saying it forever. NO ONE in the NFL runs the double move as well as Moss does. It works everytime. If you wanna see Moss doing this move at its finest watch the overthrown deep ball by Campbell against the Jets last season. I think that DB lost his ankle for the rest of the season.

Well the bottomline is Santana Moss is finally healthy again.

Yep NoCal!
If JC woulda had just a little more time to set his feet, we woulda been looking at another one of those 60+ yard bombs like against New Orleans.

Yeah, he's showing it now...he's developed a chemistry with JC that he had with Brunell. I thought he was a whole different guy.
I will gladly eat crow for doubting Moss. He's proving himself all over again.
And he may certainly be a better WR than Henry Ellard by the time he retires.

A stop and go, an out and up, a slant and go, a post-corner, any route where you make two cuts.
Santana definitely does it extremely well. I think one thing that works for him though is that you have to respect the first move. If you don't play him close on the slant he'll run it for an extra five to ten yards. It's a pick your poison kind of thing.

He made Newman look silly multiple times. Dude is a Cowboy killer for real.

It took a long time for me to understand why Moss is truly great, but Gibbs and Randle El both made substantial points that sum it up for me perfectly.
Gibbs said something to the following:
Santana Moss has the best ability he's seen being able to adjust to the ball in midair. He can twist his body and maintain full speed. This makes any ball thrown his way a legitimate completion.
Randle El mentioned very recently that Santana Moss has the ability to get back up to full speed as fast as anyone he's ever seen.
I think the second is more pertinent to the thread, but I have a vivid memory of Gibbs discussing why Santana Moss was such a great deep threat, and it has stuck with me.

Santana does a few things as well or better than anyone in the NFL:
1. Run after the catch.
2. Adjust to the deep ball.
3. Use double moves.
And when he is healthy and on his game, those three things make him extremely dangerous. He's showing that now.

Statistically speaking, I'm not sure he'll be in the league long enough to catch up to Henry Ellard.

That's exactly it. Santana doesn't have to be the most convincing on a double move to get a DB to hesitate simply because he can do some pretty amazing things with very little separation. He's not a big target at all but he does seem to play like it sometimes in the way that he uses his body to shield the ball, make adjustments on the run, and bounce off defenders.

Nicely put. Another factor that I don't think he gets enough credit for is his route-running. Double moves that work usually only happen when guys are precise in their patterns. The fastest guy in the league can't get anybody to bite on his first if he just kind of cuts corners or loops into his cuts. Tana runs great routes, but he also knows what he can get away with. I've seen a lot of option reads already this year between he and JC, and it's only going to get better as the WCO syncs up more.

That is an awesome move by Santana - I love it. It's incredible how he can stop like that and then be in full stride again in a blink.
