Jon Jansen could start at right tackle Sunday against Philadelphia after Stephon Heyer aggravated his shoulder injury during a field-goal attempt in the 26-24 victory over Dallas, Coach Jim Zorn said. Heyer was activated but did not participate on offense, while Jansen had a strong showing after struggling mightily in pass protection in preseason.

The Redskins' ability to finally sustain runs to the right side was at least in part because of Jansen's aggressive run blocking, and Zorn was also impressed with the veteran's steadiness against Dallas' vaunted pass rush. Heyer will be re-evaluated later in the week, Zorn said, with the decision on who will start against Philadelphia perhaps coming at late as Sunday.

"He had a very strong outing," Zorn said of Jansen. "It will be a very tough decision."

Jansen, the longest serving Redskin, received kudos from many teammates as well. "I think he played outstanding," quarterback Jason Campbell said.

Start him. I love Heyer like most, but Jon Jansen gives us that right side balance we need with running the football. He's just getting those legs back and his pass blocking will improve as each day and week goes on.

I look at it like this, its a good problem that we have right now. If either of them start then we are still in good shape either way. So it doesnt matter to much to me who is starting unless they fail to do their duty. I always side with the healthy man.

He did a really good job of preparing himself to play every week even though he was demoted. No matter who gets the start our depth is just that much better.

Even with the old dog not playing as well as he has in years past, I trust Jansen 100% more than Heyer at tackle.

Hell, with Heyer in the lineup, we stopped running towards the right side of the ball almost completely.

He played his ass off yesterday. Getting benched had to have re-lit that fire.

I wish we had this problem at every position.

Keep them fighting for the position all year long....

Jansen only played like he did because he was being pushed....

If any of our other Olinemen start to slip, and we have a solid backup...we may want to try this same act with them.....

I don't know...the running competition hasn't seemed to helped Golston or Monty much to this point, but Jansen is a different cat. He has a lot of pride, and he played like it.

I woul definitely start him again, but no need to advertise it to Philly this early.

I say start Jon Jansen and then if he starts stinking up the joint put Stephon Heyer back in if he is healthy enough. :eaglesuck

I think Jansen will wear down if kept in permanently. Players, when they get older and compile injuries, have a hard time sustaining a high level of play for long stretches. The two-a-days in preseason probably took their toll on Jon, leading to his poor play. With fresh legs, he's solid, but how many more weeks of full-time play til that freshness expires?

Why was Heyer playing if Heyer couldn't play?

That just seems stupid to me.

Good for him, Jansen has handled this very well and has showed he still has some gas left in the tank. Win win situation for us.

Not sure what you mean. While Monty doesn't seem to be rising to the challenge, Golston has had some pretty good games so far and is definitely playing better.

As for Jansen, I figured even at his worst he'd be a solid backup at the RT position. It is probably good that he sat for a little bit and worked his way back into shape.

Got to love Jansen because like he said he is the oldest tenured Redskins. I love Heyer because he is great young talent. What can you do about that, I think if i were the coach i would give Jansen the start and it would be his to loose. Depending on this philly game we can tell how good his pass block is coming along.

Poor guy has been injured two seasons has a few bad preseason games and yes the first game wasn't great either, but you see what kind of a player he is once the rust has been shaken off

I think if Zorn polled the Oline plus Cooley and JC, it would be near unanimous for Jansen. Rock should get a second start, even against a crazy-good Philly rush.

Gee what a problem to have. Heyer or Jansen. :) Looked like Jansen, after some early troubles, played solid yesterday.

I don't know, Philly is going to bring it and their defense seems a lot quicker than Dallas. I think, like someone above, maybe start Jansen and have Heyer ready to go if there is trouble.

Tell you what, check the tape to see visual evidence of this....

Against the Cards, after Heyer got hurt, Jansen came in with a mean streak.

Heyer was engaged with Dockett when he got hurt, maybe why he leveled him later, anyhow, first play is a run to the left. Jansen, from his right tackle spot, drives Dockett 10 yards off the ball.

You could tell Dockett looked at Jansen like, WTF?

I think Jansen has it in him and maybe the benching will be the best thing for him. Competition is good.

I think Jansen will help in the philly game to help the run game. I think it will help in the short term. Let Heyer get healthy.
