Slowly as this season becomes the best season I have witnessed as a fan of this great franchise (Post Gibbs 1.0), thoughts of the clumsy redskins are slowly disappearing? Usually during games in the past and not so much in the present, I am expected to see the redskins mess up in criticial moments and failed to capitalize on big chances.
However, this new administration is slowly fixing this in me. I am not sure how others feel but this feeling is closely disappearing and I love it. No longer do I feel that the redskins will **** up on a big chance.
Up 6 yesterday, the old redskins would have went 3 and out and punted the football and likely lose the lead however this team rammed the ball down the throats of the cowboys and slowly give the final kill shot.
Thoughts? Observations? Opinions?

I'm still waiting to see how we do this week, but the old feelings of doubt and despair are starting to lift.
Watching the game yesterday reminded me of a better time, a time when the Skins were confident and dangerous. I'm hoping we're returning to this territory - it will be good to be back. For the younger fans it will be good to be there finally and for you guys to see what real Redskins football is all about. :D

Nope.
I'm still nervous everytime our offense has the ball.
When Campbell goes deep I cringe, and thank God its been nothing but good results thusfar.
I've never seen a really good Redskins team, '91 was way too long ago for me to remember. I love this team, love what they're doing so far but lets be honest...this is still the Redskins.

I can think of four games last year that may have had different outcomes under the current coaching staff.
Bills, Giants, Eagles, and packers

It's early 1/4 of the season is done.
We are still young and injuries can undo anyone.
That said I sure am enjoying it so far.

Yes.
In beginning the Zorn era, the Redskins turned over a new leaf. We aren't the same old Redskins we have been for the past 15 years.

I have to agree. This is a team that so far(the key of course) has avoided turnovers, have closed out games, had game winning drives, and just stepped up whenever the game was on the line.

while watching the game, a buddy said, "are we really good? I mean, are we legit?" We were in slight disbelief. And I said, hell yeah we are. The cowpukes are overratted.

Same here. Back in the Norv days that onsides kick yesterday would have been ran back for a TD by Hurd. We always seemed to turn into the Keystone Cops at critical times. A few more games like yesterday and I think we can start to shed that image.

There were about four times yesterday I thought we were going to let it get away, but that has not happened this year. We could have folded in all three wins and have not. I think the guys finally get it, and are also being given opportunities to make it happen. I am not totally sold yet. Beat the Iggies this week and I will give in.

I think this turnaround in attitude has to do with several things:
1. A confidence that we are going to let the offense attack the opponent and be a bit unpredictable. I think the players are really enjoying the opportunity to "go for it" instead of always playing conservatively.
2. Zorn always tells you what he thinks. if someone screwed up, he doesn't pour sugar all of it (I do LOVE Gibbs), he says "the player screwed up," so that everyone knows it.
3. Zorn finally has the opportunity of a lifetime - he has everything to prove and nothing to lose (Gibbs always had a legacy he didn't want to tarnish).
Okay, now talk amongst yourselves.

I still have that mentality. We have yet to put together consistently good performances over a whole season. Only when our back has been against the wall ahve we really had success. But this year we are in a position to prove ourselves as one of the better teams in the NFL.
However, the mentality is still with me. All throughout teh Cowboys game when we were in the lead i was just ****ting myself. I just expected portis to fumble, or JC to throw an interception, or the defense to break, or betts to fumble, or moss/rande el dropping passes, suicham to miss field goals, and brooks to punt like 20 yards.
It will take a while before i start forgettign the 'clumsy redskins' of yesteryears.

Your thread said what I was thinking all evening. I don't view our early success as being "fragile" like I did under Joe Gibbs (Hail) and that's a really good feeling. In Gibbs II (Hail) I was not only always waiting for the next loss but I was even waiting for the current one in every game. With Zorn I feel confident throughout the game and going into each week. I thought for sure we'd lose in Dallas but it didn't matter because I felt like we were a growing team regardless of what happened. That was only due to me believing some of the Cowboy hype. The Redskins shattered that. :)
