I just read this story on ESPN.com and went

"If we get a good shot on [Tebow], we're going to try our best to take him out of the game," Jean-Francois said Monday, according to the Orlando Sentinel's Web site. "With his size and his heart, it's hard to get a clean shot.
You have GOT to be kidding. I hate Florida, but that is completely uncalled for. Stay classy LSU.

We will.:) Here is the actual story.

“We never go into any football game trying to hurt a player from the other team. My comments in regard to Florida quarterback Tim Tebow were misinterpreted and were intended to reflect the style of football that we play at LSU. We have great respect for Tim as player and a competitor. By taking him out of the game, I meant as a defense we are going to try to make him ineffective. I’m sorry that my initial comments were interpreted another way.”
-- LSU DT Ricky Jean-Francois
Doubt he wrote that though. Anyway, football is a tough sport. I seriously doubt RJF wants to seriously injure Tebow. I think the comments were taken out of context and the real story about all of this isn't being told yet. ESPN just decided to run with this story.

thanks for the clarification Bayou. :)
I'm guessing what he meant to say in the original quote is "we're going to try our best to throw him off his game" rather than "take him out." That way, it actually makes sense.
PS- good luck against Florida, I hope y'all win. I also may be invading Tiger Stadium in a couple weeks wearing a bunch of red and black. :D

He meant EXACTLY what he said in the first quote, got called on it, and issued your standard ****ty sports retraction. I have no problem with him saying he wants to hurt Tebow... however, he shouldn't have added the part about it not needing to be a clean hit.

Stupid first comment, boilerplate retraction. Dumb to give Florida bulletin board material either way.

Tebow is more like a linebacker playing QB.
Man, I really hope Florida can beat LSU. I don't know what is going to happen.

in most cases, I'd agree. However, how many times have you heard people, announcers, fans, etc..., say that about someone else.
"The team has to take the fans out of the game" means they gotta get the crowd to shut up by scoring early and often, not injure all the fans.
"The players really need to take Terrell Owens out of the game" means shut him down, not injure him, granted lots of players do want to injure him.
This was just blown out of proportion more than likely by local media, as well as ESPN looking to stir the pot despite having announcers, especially NFL announcers, who are not the most tactful or eloquent. "taking someone out of the game" has become a pretty common phrase in most football fans lexicon.
