Clinton Portis injured, misses practice again

Thursday, Oct 16, 2008 - 04:31 PM

Since the Washington Redskins lost to the St. Louis Rams last Sunday, star running back Clinton Portis has not practiced with the team.

He's suffering from a hip flexor, a minor injury that will not keep him out of Sunday's game, according to coach Jim Zorn.

Zorn added, though, that Portis likely would not practice with the team until Saturday's walkthrough before Sunday afternoon's game against Cleveland.

With backup running back Ladell Betts injured, the team signed former league MVP Shaun Alexander this week to back up Portis. Alexander will be ready to play on Sunday, his first game of the NFL season.

This shouldn't be a big deal, but we sure are getting banged up.

What is a hip flexor by the way?

Is this an injury that can be tempered in a few days? I'm thankful for the late start on Sunday, alot of our guys are gonna need to spend the afternoon getting treatments.....

I'm not sure of the extent or how it's treated, but i did see them working on his hip watching the rams game. Just in case anyone didn't know.

Nothing a magic shot won't cure. But its like a Hamstring, it could stay with him for the rest of the season. But, not serious, if he takes care of it and stretches it out he can still play.

Guys, a hip flexor, according to wiki, is simply a muscle.

"hip flexor" in football circles, is an abreviation for a muscle stain. Clicking Wiki won't tell you much. Click below:

BTW, a thread was created on this topic two minutes before... :)

I think its a hip pointer...

For what it's worth, Portis apparently said it's between a hip flexor and a hip pointer, whatever that means.

I always blame Gibbs for trading portis for Bailey as soon as he got the job. But it seemed to work out.

I understand. I'm just repeating what Portis said according to Vinny.

I noticed he was out for a bunch of snaps.

a hip pointer is more from a direct blow to the hip, while the help flexor injury is a strain or tear to the muscle group that lifts the leg up (think of a running motion).

I've had the hip flexor injury during my high school soccer days, and it occurred early in the season. If not taken care of, it can last the entire season - as it did for me. and at its worst, it can be very debilitating. I was forced to miss a game or two during the season

of course, I didn't have trainings working on me 24/7 like professional football players do. if it's only a slight pull, then i think they will be able to work through this until the bye-week, and he should be able to get proper work and circulation work during that week.

coming from the guy who called portis a "cancer" not too long ago and then took someone's free ticket to the arizona game and bitched about the view.............................................. ...........

but i cannot tell a lie...i had my doubts about the trade at times

yea, we all have hip flexors...

Wikipedia is a nice quick reference, but it is just someone's opinion, sometimes with facts backing it up... sometimes not.
