Redskins' snub has Josh Cribbs jacked up for the game
Josh Cribbs heads home to Washington, D.C., Sunday with an axe to grind against his beloved Redskins.
"I have a huge chip on my shoulder because they didn't draft me coming out of college," said Cribbs. "It's an honor for me to go back and show what I can do and basically put it in their face."
Cribbs, the most valuable player of D.C.'s Dunbar High team, said he had several workouts with the Redskins and they were his first choice coming out of Kent State.
"I grew up wanting to play for the Redskins the way Brady Quinn grew up wanting to play for the Browns," said Cribbs. "It was my dream and when they didn't draft me, it hurt. It helped me to get to where I am now, to prove to them and to the NFL that I belonged in the league."
Cribbs said he met with then-Redskins coach Joe Gibbs and members of the offensive staff before the 2005 draft.
"They showed strong interest in me, but wanted me to come in as a tryout guy," said Cribbs. "All of that helped give me an edge and it allowed me to say, 'people don't think I'm good enough, they think this guy is better than me.' It gives me motivation."
The Redskins tried to sign Cribbs as an undrafted free-agent quarterback, but Browns scout Kevin Kelly had already persuaded him he had a better chance to make it in the NFL as a returner and that the Browns would showcase him. Cribbs opted for Cleveland and has become a Pro Bowler.
"I'm playing so many positions that I have plenty of opportunities to show the Redskins what they're missing," he said. "Hopefully by the end of the day they'll be scratching their heads and saying 'Dang! Why didn't we get that guy?' "
In addition to returning punts and kicks, Cribbs is featured in his "Flash" package -- just over 20 plays in which he lines up at quarterback. He said he doesn't want to let the hometown crowd down and has more than 200 friends and family members coming. "It's big for me to put my best foot forward," he said. "If I can break a return for a TD, that'd be great. But I hope to have a solid game and make the Redskins sorry."

well its a good thing our punt coverage is unbreakable... wait... what
either way good for Cribbs for making it in the nfl and being named to a pro bowl. however, i believe any hardcore skins fan would take the chance of signing as a free agent, especially when they were actually gonna let him try at QB

So...nobody else drafted him either, so he's mad because we didn't draft him just because he was from DC and instead tried to sign him as a UDFA? I don't get it.

You should be. He's the 2nd best return man in football, and our coverage teams have been doing zippity-squat.
The main thing I learned from that article is that Josh Cribbs is a Redskins fan. Nice. Maybe we can make a play for him in FA sometime down the road.

I'd be lying if I said this didn't bother me at all. I think we'll be alright, and truth be told he would have been a great asset on our team, not afraid to bounce to the edges, something Rock doesn't do, and doesn't dance around in place on punts, as one Antwaan Randle El does

A couple of contradicting statements here. If you really wanted to be a Skin then why sign with the Browns if we were an UDFA option? Hummm....

Cribbs is not only a great return man, he's a great coverage man on kickoffs and punts. He is, in my opinion, the best special teams player in football. I think he will want to have a big week playing in front of his hometown crowd, wheter he does is another thing.

I think Cribbs got a chance with the Browns because top to bottom their roster was nowhere near as strong as the Skins. When looking at what team had the best opportunity Cribbs probably felt he had a better chance making the Browns then the Skins. JMO

I loved watching Cribbs play at Dunbar while in high school. He was damn near unstoppable at QB. He was like Randall Cunningham. James Lynch Former terrapin fullback was the RB for Dunbar. That offense was crucial. Lynch was like 260 at RB.
I root for Cribbs but not this Sunday. LOL

You do realize that nobody else, including Cleveland, drafted him either. Right? Also, the Redskins did in fact try to bring him in, but he chose to go to Cleveland.
So, I hardly see how this is a snub. This is just a player looking for any and all motivation to get up for a game. There's no reason for recriminations or "Gibbs U stupid!" posts.
As for Cribbs, I am a little worried simply because the Skins' punt coverage unit (both covering and receiving) has been quite frankly awful this season. Hopefully the new punter can make a difference there. While Frost was overall rather terrible, he did a great job last year keeping the ball away from Devin Hester, which did help contribute to that victory. Also, Redskin fans on other teams tend to have big games against the Skins at Fed Ex (Tiki, Westbrook, etc.).
Should be a good game.

Gotta agree with the Browns fan here. Josh Cribbs is what Rock Cartwright wants to be (no offense Rock, I love you dude). He's always a threat to break a long one for a TD, but if it's not there, at least he gets positive yardage unlike Randle El and Hester. And again, our punt coverage hasn't exactly been stellar.

So let me get this straight..Nobody picked Cribbs in the draft?
According to the article the the Skins were interested in him as a possible QB and he signs with Cleveland as KR/PR and he's pissed at the Skins?
He should play like crap for the Browns, they didn't draft him either..WTF?

What has he done that warrants us to be worried about him? He has run back some kicks for TD's but what else has he done? Is he as good as Joseph Addai, Clinton Portis, LT, Adrian Peterson, or even Jamaal Lewis? No. He isn't even the second best RB on his team so why should we be so interested or worried about him?
