Former Warner Christian Academy teacher charged with sex with minor

A former Warner Christian Academy teacher was charged today by two police departments with unlawful sexual activity with a minor, accused of having a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old student who attended the South Daytona school.

Cynthia Horvath, 45, was arrested by Port Orange Police. She was booked at the Volusia County Branch Jail with bail set at $10,000. Daytona Beach Police also filed charges against her and bail was set at $10,000 on those charges.

Horvath resigned after being confronted by school officials, who then contacted South Daytona Police, said Lt. Ron Wright of that agency. A brief investigation indicated the sexual activity took place in hotels in Port Orange and Daytona Beach and there was no illegal activity in South Daytona, Wright said.

An investigation revealed the teacher and student were engaged in sexual activity in multiple locations in Port Orange between June and September, said Port Orange police Detective Capt. Frank Surmaczewicz.

I concur. A 17-year old male can enlist in the military (with parental consent) and is assumed to be mentally and emotionally competent enough to kill the enemy.

That would be amazing. Where was this "epidemic" when I was in school? Come to think of it, I don't think there were any of my teachers that I would've wanted to have sex with. So maybe it's a good thing I missed out.

Horvath was arrested and charged with having sex with a minor just after noon Wednesday at the Walmart in Daytona Beach, police reports show. According to her attorney, Horvath, the mother of four children -- one of whom is in the same class with the teen who was seeing Horvath -- was inside the store buying prescription medication for her husband, who is recovering from an appendectomy.

An arrest affidavit released by Port Orange police Wednesday, however, shows Horvath went to Walmarts in Port Orange and Daytona Beach several times this year for other reasons.

The first time Horvath and the teen had sex was in her car in the parking lot of the Walmart on Dunlawton Avenue in Port Orange, the report states.

In all, the pair met 25 times for sexual romps just in Port Orange, and "in various locations in Daytona Beach as well," the report shows.

Back in the late '90s, my daughter was hoping to get a basketball scholarship and went to many summer camps each year - she had some talent and the height, but it didn't work out.

At one camp in Tenn., Pam Rogers was a student instructor. Jessica was 16 at the time and Pam was probably about 20 or so. One evening, a few of them went out to eat and, apparently, a couple of boys started to hit on the girls. None were interested though, except Pam it seems. My daughter thought the boys were no more than 15 or 16 and she was surprised that Pam was flirting back.

Years later, this happens and my daughter's reaction was something like "EEEEWWWWW". Looking back, it isn't that surprising I guess.

No. There is no rule against is and usually it just means a tough class for the teachers kid.

On the other hand, it did not say all three were in the same class together (as I read it) Only that the two kids shared a class.

In other local news. I ran into a roadblock today on the way to work. Seems McCain had breakfast at a local beach side diner and they blocked traffic for two blocks out. He went on to speak at a place right next door to my last job. Obama was recently here as well. How these guys find time for this po-dunk town I have no idea. LOL
