View Full Version : Al Michaels hearts Giants

Wow, tonight's game continues what we saw in week 1.

Al Michaels just LOVES the freaking Giants. It's ridiculous. It was really prevalent in week 1 (where he was calling it "game" repeatedly in the second quarter).

Today, every play he is starting to sound like he's forming a Giants love affair akin to the Madden/Favre relationship (Coughlin and the Giants can't seem to do any wrong for him). He was really over the top with the punt penalty. Now they show the records in the NFCE, and he is talking about how if the Giants win it's likely they'll be getting a first round bye. WHAT?! It's a 2-game lead with a head-to-head Skins matchup still coming up.

I don't recall Michaels being this bad in the past, is this new?

I wonder what kind of bias he might have next week. I haven't noticed anything beyond his Giants love, which to me, is beyond ridiculous.

Didn't notice any bias whatsoever but...

...what's not to love about the G-men. They're playing great.

Let him talk. I just want the Redskins to start scoring some damn TD's and beat the hell out of dall ASS!

They're 8-1 with a much more well-rounded offense than the Titans, and the defending champs. Whats not to love?

The bias comes out of comments that don't make logical sense, and jump the gun.
To presume that at 8-1 but still with only 2 fewer losses than the Skins, and a head-to-head remaining, means that the Giants are basically getting home field?
Way too early.

Also, some of his calls were enthusiastically pro-NY, but that is more anecdotal evidence.

In week 1, he was calling the game like it was a blowout in the second quarter in spite of it still being a game that could change on 2 scores.

Those things aren't really that debatable on bias, I'd think. It seems like it's either bias or stupidity, and maybe I give him the benefit of the doubt on the stupidity.

He also brought up that whole "revisionist history" he charged Vinny with during our first game against the Giants when talking about Steve Spagnuolo. I'm getting really annoyed by that... seems like the Giants want to make it out like he was offered the job and declined; whereas Vinny is telling like it is. Al Micheals keeps saying we're pretty much lying about it and I'm sick of it. I really like Al Micheals for the most part, but he's got to stop with that.

Spagnuolo was not offered the Redskins job but his agent Bob LaMonte said "it didn't matter because his heart is in New York City."

That's because the Giants weren't this good in the past.

I know what you mean when he talked about how outstanding Coughlin was when he declined the penalty on the punt. He had an orgasm over it and really it was a normal call.

Am I the only one who can't stand him saying the word ball?

Oh wait I didn't say it right:

"BAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWWWLLLLLLLLL"

I loved how when they kept showing the replay of the challenge of Eli throwing the ball beyond the line of scrimmage, they would stop it right as he was lifting his foot, which was the only part of his body still at or behind the LOS. Michaels kept gushing how his foot was still behind the LOS and Madden kept sheepishly pointing out "the ball is still in his hand. He has not thrown it yet." They never would freeze it when he actually threw the ball, Michaels did not need to see it, so I guess we the viewer did not need to either.

Madden chimed in on that, agreeing wth Michaels, saying that's how he heard that things went as well. No matter, things have turned out pretty well for you guys with Zorn, seems to be a non-issue...

When they showed the replay later with the adjust redline, it was clear Eli's foot was behind the LOS still. Madden even agreed at that point. The original replay had a redline about a half yard behind the LOS. You could tell b/c it was behind the stick on the sideline.

I like him. I'm not someone who hates any broadcaster that doesn't heap praises on the SKins or start piss and moan threads anytime some obscure periodical predicts us to lose the upcoming game
