Quarterback Donovan McNabb suddenly hit a couple of moving targets and the Eagles were back in the game. In fact, that's the only downside for the Giants. On a night when they racked up 401 yards of total offense and turned All-Pro running back Brian Westbrook into a non-factor, New York had trouble closing the deal.

On this night, even the most ardent McNabb apologists were sent scrambling for higher ground. He was 17 of 36 for 194 yards and three touchdowns, but don't let that last number fool you. His interception in the second quarter was as bad as you'll see in the NFL, a league that Brad Johnson and J.T. O'Sullivan still call home. McNabb rallied his team late, but it only served to highlight how poorly he'd played the rest of the game.

At this point, McNabb is the fourth-best quarterback in the NFC East. With all of his experience, he'll still take a delay of game in the red zone or botch a handoff at crucial moments. As usual, Eagles coach Andy Reid stood by his man, saying McNabb simply has to "keep firing, and he'll be fine." In the other locker room, the Giants were talking about how amusing it was that they were the underdogs in this game. After spending 10 minutes on a half-Windsor knot, wide receiver Plaxico Burress turned around to explain.

"We were the underdogs tonight for some strange reason," Burress said, shaking his head in disbelief. "We're 3-0 (in the NFC East), they're 0-3. We're the defending world champs, but we're the underdogs."

wait, who thought the giants were the underdogs?? were people actually saying this? or are the giants just making this up to make themselves look like the victim?

Heh. Don't tell me they're going to pull a Tom Brady and start complaining that nobody gives them any respect.

Giants could be this years Cowboys though, everything keeps seeming to bounce their way.

wow, i didn't even know. why the hell were they 3-point underdogs? i mean i know that pretty much puts them even since you get 3 for home-field. but still, i wouldn't have thought they would be underdogs.

Damn, if I knew that I would have put some money on the game.

The Giants sure seem like favorites to me. The line really doesn't mean who people think will win the game its a fulcrum to get people to bet equally on both sides of the game.

The bettors prefer to take their 10 percent of the winners then risk large money on side or the other.

Haha, wow.

How pathetic have the Eagles become? I know a lot of the fans around these parts hate the Eagles and their fans (and rightfully so) But at one point with McNabb and Reid they were respectable. We're not even a shadow of our formerselves. We're nothing.

Not true- The Eagles are a solid middle-tier team in the toughest division in football.

They would win the NFC West and North and the AFC West no problem. They would have a good shot at the AFC East, NFC South, AFC North.

The Eagles BIG problem is the division they play in.

Are you kidding me!? There are like 5 threads every week about the lines for the week. You can't go a week on ES without knowing the spreads for all the games.

McNabb is definitely the 4th best QB in the division.

Thank god for Wade Phillips, or Andy Reid would be the 4th best coach in the division.

In any case, the Eagles will finish in last place. The Cowboys will play better with Romo back and finish in third. The Skins are an 11-win wild-card. The Giants are the best team in the league.

haha. I usually read threads posted in the Stadium. Maybe I should look out for that though. I bet on 4 other games (I should have known the Raiders and Lions can't be trusted), but didn't even notice the Giants' line for some reason.

Obviously it wasn't an option for me to bet against the Eagles, but if ever there was a line that screamed "easy money" the second I saw it, it was the one for last night's game.

I cna't bet money against the skins either. I'll include them in pools etc, but I can't bet the skins to lose. I'm not that degenerate of a gambler.

even more from Mosley, puking McNabb

On third down, Manning had a passer rating of 136.7. McNabb checked in with a 16. What that suggests is that Manning was at his best when the stakes were highest. He seems to have the ability to focus in pressure situations.

Eli Manning on Third Down

Down Comp Att Yds TD Int Rating
Third down *7 10 103 1 0 136.7
Other downs 10 21 88 1 1 55.3
Total 17 31 191 2 1 81.5

* Six for first downs

According to ESPN Stats & Analysis, McNabb overthrew five of his intended targets and under threw three of them. He also had six passes deflected and one of those under throws was picked off by Sam Madison in the second quarter. And cornerback Aaron Ross dropped another one.

As far as big division games go, it's as poorly as I've seen McNabb play. Yet there he was with a chance to lead the Eagles to a late win. He couldn't answer the bell -- and the Eagles missed a golden opportunity.

McNabb Struggles on Third Down

Down Comp Att Yds TD Int
1st 6 13 43 0 0
2nd 8 15 100 2 0
3rd 2 7 49 0 1

Pretty damning stuff there, bubba.

There's not a football-viewing fan in America who could come up with a logical justification of those statistics.

It's time for major changes in Philly. The roster is largely devoid of talent. Blow it all up and rebuild.

Who takes 10 minutes to tie a half-Windsor? I mean, sure he just played a full game and all, but come on. Where's the effort, Plax?

I don't know if I'd go that far, but there should be some adjustments made across the board.

One thing that confused me a bit last night was when they were talking about that they needed a safety above to handle Plexiglass and couldn't bring the safety up to help with the run game. Isn't that why they brought in Samuel so that they'd have a kick-ass secondary that didn't need that kind of help?

Course, I felt that Samuel was overrated, and I guess that has borne out to be true.

There isn't a corner in football who can cover Plax one on one. The dillemma the Eagles face while covering him is the same all teams face.

Samuel has been everything the team hoped he would be when they signed him. Worth every penny. He and Desean Jackson are the only players on the team for whom that is true.

Everyone else either sucks or isn't playing to potential.

FWIW, I thought Assante played a terrible game last night. His best play was defending the 2 point conversion, but they attacked him last night, and he didn't do well.

He got beat on a couple intermediate routes by Toomer. His second half was much better than his first.

Most of the secondary's issues last night came when the Giants effortlessly repelled Jim Johnson's tired and predictable blitz package.

I don't take too much stock in Philly being favored in Vegas. If Philly was 3-5 instead of 5-3, they would have made the Giants the favorites. But most of the time when the 2 teams are separated by 1 or 2 games, the home team gets the 3. If the Skins somehow manage to win their next 2 and aree 8-3 and the Giants are 10-1 or 9-2, don't be surprised to see us the favorite at home. NFC East is always tough no matter what.

I'm still shocked by the poor clock management that Reid and McNabb consistently show after all these years. They could have gotten a play off last night before the two minute warning but didn't. Michaels and Madden suggested it was because McNabb was tired. I bet Manning was tired too but he pulled off plays when they counted.

Michaels and Madden were reaching for a story line.

Waiting until after the two-minute warning was the right call. There's no need to rush in a play in that situation. Winning the game depended on converting that first down. The right decision is to take your time and be sure that you have the right play called. Unfortunately, Reid took his time and then called a stinker.

Two minutes is more than enough time to drive 50 yards. There's no validity to the idea that they should have hurried a snap before the two minute warning.

With a healthy McNabb and a healty Westbrook, the Eagles will be competitive in every game they play.

Neither is 'done', yet.

Ya..this talk of the eagles sucking is just ridiculous...they lost to a good team. If they were in 2 of the other 3 divisions in the NFC they'd be division champs.
