I was drawing up a playoff bracket for fun this morning and encountered a huge predicament....

In my playoff I have 8 teams. The seeding in my bracket was based on strength of conference and I also took in consideration current bcs standings and bcs rule on undefeated non-BCS schools. I also had to predict winners of conferences since the season isn't over yet. (I think OU will beat TT and go on to win the Big 12, UF will win out the rest of the season including the SEC championship vs. undefeated Bama, USC will win out and Oregon State will lose a game, I think Pitt will win the Big East, I took a wild guess at the ACC since it is pretty much up for grabs. My bracket looks like this:

1 UF
8 Utah

4 USC
5 FSU

3 PSU
6 Pitt

2 OU
7 ?

Who would deserve the 7th seed (wild card)? a one loss Texas, who in my scenario would finish highest in the polls of the group. A one loss TT, who beat Texas, or a one loss Bama, who lost to #1 ranked Florida?

In a perfect world, the Pac 10 would expand to include Utah and Boise State...that way I wouldn't feel obligated to include the undefeated Utah in my bracket, but that isn't the case. In a real playoff scenario, I think TT, TX, and Bama would all be more deserving than Utah.

anyway....who do you all think should be in the number 7 spot using this format?

First of all, homer, Florida isn't ranked #1 right now and might not be when the SEC championship is played;)

Now then, assuming your scenario played out, I would personally give the spot to Texas Tech. I have a feeling that T-Tech or Texas would beat Alabama straight up, and I'd give it to them by virtue of their head to head victory over Texas.

That being said, Tech would have to lose for OU to have gotten the Big-12 auto bid, and since Texas is ranked #3, they'd get in after Alabama lost to Florida.

BTW, loving the PSU-Pitt matchup. As a PSU fan, I wish they played Pitt every year, that used to be a nice rivalry.

But if the game was tight, I think you have to give it to Bama. Big 12 has closed the gap quite a bit this year, but the SEC is still the strongest conference in Football (Just look at SEC team losses: 82% of them are to other SEC teams, Big 12's percentage is 78%)

just in case anyone cares what the other divisions percentages are:
ACC: 77%
Big 10: 72%
pac 10: 67%
Big East: 59%....wow, by far the worst conference in the BCS

anyway...

that would be a good rivalry game, although I think PSU would crush them this year.....in my playoff bracket, the higher seeded team would play at home.

my appologies to Big East fans.....your conference is pretty terrible, but not as bad as the Pac Ten!

The Pac ten is 5-9 against other BCS teams and 7-9 against non BCS teams....this has to be the first time a BCS conference has had a losing record to non BCS schools

Granted, 6 of those loses came against BYU, Utah, Fresno State, TCU, and Boise State (5 of the best non BCS teams), but still....that is a bad stat to have!
