I played Madden once, in like '93 and wasn't impressed, so I never bothered with it after that. Until I saw my nephew playing Superstar mode a couple of months back. Ever since then I've been getting dragged into the game. I'm now playing franchise mode and have a question.

Madden 07, for PS2/Xbox in case it makes a difference.

I think there are attributes that I can't see. I'm still early on in the 'chise I just started, so I still have Portis in his prime. I drafted a young guy that has very similar stats, but a much lower rating. There is a huge difference in the way they run, Portis can make multiple tacklers miss, plow guys over, run through contact... anything you want a back to do. The guy I drafted falls down as soon as he's hit.

I read something about other attributes, power move, juke move, that sort of thing and I don't see them anywhere in the current attribute screens. I see overall, speed, and about about 15 other things. Is there some setting I need to change or something?

If there are other attributes it would help explain the draft ratings. I see fast, durable guys late in the draft and can't help but wonder why everyone is passing on them.

Those extra ratings are only for the Xbox 360/PS3 versions of the games. What your looking for is BTK (break tackle) I guess. That should be the biggest difference.

And I also see fast guys like that late in the draft. But i think it's like that for a reason.

Say there is a receiver with a 4.27 forty, a good cone, and a good shuttle. They will be fast, agile, and have good acceleration. But the one thing those measurables don't tell you is their awareness, their catching, their break tackles, their injury, their carrying, and various stuff like that.

That being said, I usually draft those kinds of guys and work on their catching in training camp so I can go deep to them all day.

Hope that helps.

and awareness is key. that could be the reason for not breaking tackles.

but speed and acceleration are big into the overall. so if you see someone with like 95+ in both of those. his awareness will be low to compensate for it.

but like LL said. i usually do go for the high speed guys cuz you can always build up their awareness, but you cant build up the speed and accel as quickly.

another way, not for RBs, is to switch positions. you can usually take a late round CB and switch him to safety and get a good 5 point jump in overall. i usually do that with the CBs over 6'2. can do the same for LBs to DEs. up til this year, before every new franchise i would find a FA LB, sign them, then move them to DE and it was almost always at least a 10 point jump in overall. i did it with peter bouleware, and lavar, and a few others. would take a low 80s overall LB and turn them into a mid 90s DE just by a position switch.
