This week will be a tough one for us Skins fans, because we will all be reminded of the ST incident. I figured we should just put everything ST related in one thread since the memories will come flooding in again....
I honestly think we have the emotional edge coming up against the Giants. We shall see how much it helps.

Hopefully it will reflect the game a couple years ago, the one after Wellington Mara died. But, you know, the other way around.

I think there's zero chance that the defense plays with 10 players on the first play. I think that was a one time thing against Buffalo.

Can I bring my Sean Taylor towel to the game?
I hope a lot of people will bring them. It would be wonderful to recreate the beautiful sight at the Bills game of all the white towels. It was such a wonderful tribute to Sean.
If anyone doesn't have a 21 towel that they gave out at the Bills game or sold afterwards, they sell something similar at The Redskins Store at the malls and at redskins.com. It's only #3.99, and all profits go to the Sean Taylor Memorial Fund. The below picture is the one available at the Redskins' online store. I also saw another version of the towel at the local mall's Redskin Store.

There's also a car magnet for $4.99. I'll also put the picture of that one below.

I was thinking about that one of these days. I think it would be great, it's the anniversary, not just another game.
If they tell Manning about it, he might just kneel it down in tribute as well.

Highly doubtful.
It was a great tribute last year, but I think the best tribute possible on Sunday is to come out with a win.

I doubt that another team would be willing to do that. There was talk about that after the Buffalo game last season in the context that it was unsportsmanlike for the Bills to run a play towards where Taylor was. If the Redskins were to come out with ten again, I'd think that it was amazing just like last year, but I would never expect another team to comply and kneel down. (Would it be classy?, absolutely. But it wouldn't be classless if they didn't either.) Honestly, if the shoe was on the other foot, I wouldn't want the Skins to do that either. (That said, if the Redskins came out with ten and Manning just floated a pass to where Taylor would have been on the field-with the understanding that nobody would pick it off-that would be cool.)

I really hope we don't play 10 men on D for the first play.....actually, I know we wont do it because we're smarter & better than that. It was great when they did it in the Buffalo game but it's been a year now & doing something like this is more like mourning the loss of Sean rather than celebrating who he was.
As George S. Patton once said...
"It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died. Rather, we should thank God that such men lived."
I think the best thing we can do is bring our a A game and come out with a win....now THAT will be a proper/fitting tribute to ST~

I know that it wasn't the Bills' obligation to do that, but it would've been nice for them to do a kneel down and then we would do an encroachment on the next play to make up for it. I always thought that would be the classiest way to do it.

He was the very first Redskins draft pick that I watched, and I will always remember him like in this picture...a terror to opposing WR's. :(

As we approach the one-year anniversary of the tragic death of Sean Taylor, and after reading Gregg Williams' thoughts about the man, I thought I'd share some of my memories of #21.
First, I thought it was smart of the Redskins to draft Sean Taylor with that top-10 pick. I remember being at the Draft Day Party at FedEx Field and hearing a LOT of Redskins fans booing the choice because they wanted Mike Williams. But, I'd seen him in college and, at the time, I thought we needed substance over a player designed to fill the seats, like a Mike Williams.
After that first year and subsequent off-season, I really wasn't a Taylor fan personally because I thought he had a surly attitude and didn't appreciate the way he blew off Joe Gibbs when the latter called him repeatedly to come to off-season workouts. Then, came the trouble with the stolen ATVs and finally the incident where he spat on the Tampa Bay player in the playoffs. Mind you, I'm not doubting his talent. I just wasn't fond of his personality.
Then, I saw him change, both on the field and off. Taylor was becoming more studious about his game. He was trying to be a more fundamentally sound football player instead of always going for the, pardon the phrase, "snot-bubbling" hit. I often heard stories from fans about how nice and gracious Taylor was about pictures and autographs. It was at that point I finally became a Sean Taylor fan. As we were approaching the 2007 season, it was my hope to meet Mr. Taylor and get a picture with him to add to my collection.
Sadly, that never happened. The morning he passed, I remember watching the news, hearing there was improvement and, thinking he'd be all right, I turned off my TV set and stepped into the shower to get ready for the workday. A friend of mine called me 15 minutes later telling me he had passed. I was just shocked! I turned the TV back on and got the news. Honestly, I still can't believe it all. And I really didn't get a chance to "mourn" him properly because my dad, who at that time was in a nursing home, had an episode that would hospitalize him for the last time. I missed all of the vigils that week and could only pay my respects at the Buffalo game.
I'll never forget how eerie the day was as there was just a pall over the entire pre-game experience, especially at the tailgates. There was a very somber feeling in the air that I'd never felt before. In fact, I snapped a picture of Pez, someone a LOT of you know, as he was cooking his famous wings. Those of you who know him know that the man always has a smile on his face. But on this day, the look on his face in that picture I snapped showed someone carrying a lot of hurt -- a look I'd NEVER seen from him before. Then again, many people were wearing that same expression.
I think about Sean Taylor and I'm thankful for the times I did see him play. I'm especially thankful that I saw him mature, both, as a person and a player. I'm sorry I never got a chance to meet him or try to take more pictures of him. I'd like to think that he and Dad are in Heaven right now, tossing the football around, exchanging stories about their high school gridiron days.
My thoughts and prayers go out to all of his family, friends and, especially, all of you out in Redskins Nation who miss Sean.

Very well put! :applause:
Seems like you wrote out my story with the exception that I liked ST from the moment it was announced he was a Redskin. I had some issue with his off field behavior also but I just knew deep down that we were witnessing something special and that by the grace of God this young man was going to come around and become a very, very good human being.
I wasnt at the Buffalo game but I will be at the Gaints game. I'm already prepared for the onslaught of emotion. I'm trying to keep in mind that this is a celebration of his life and accomplishments but in the back of my mind the pain and hurt of knowing we shouldnt be doing this now keeps creeping in to my thoughts.
God be with Jackie, Jackie, Pedro, Clinton, Santana, and the rest of Sean's family, friends, and teammates.
RIP 21, I'll get to shake your hand one day.

Nice story.
I didn't not ST before we drafted him too well but I was an instant fan of his. My best friend was always in my ear telling me how good Taylor was going to be. my first game going to see Taylor was against Cincinnati in 2004 when he had an Int of the first play and then clothes lined Rudi Johnson. I became a huge fan of him after that day.
I too was upset at him for his off field behavior but still loved him anyway. I used to always look forward to see who Taylor would blow up that week in the game. I normally check into extremeskins every morning and that day when i checked in the 1st post I saw was saying that taylor had been shot and I couldn't believe it. Over the next 24 hours I watched the news to see if he could pull it out. To be honest I thought that taylor would be fine, there was no way he could die, this is ST the "meast" he could take a bullet in the leg you know what I mean. I went to sleep that night in a positive mood and the next morning my bro called me and told me he passed away. I started to sob because I couldn't believe it and I still can't believe it sometimes the way he left all of us including his family.
I miss you Sean, the way you made us feel when you were on the field. You can never be replaced in our hearts and minds.

It's hard to describe the shock I felt when I woke up on November 27th, 2007 and saw Sean's face on the homepage of Cnn.com with a caption saying that he had passed away.
Like a lot of other fans, the last thing I remember before going to bed was how someone had reported that Sean was making facial expressions and had squeezed the nurse's hand that night.
When I laid down for bed, I just wanted him to live. Nevermind football or the Redskins, I just wanted him to make it through this whether his career was over or not.
I felt the exact same sentiments that Gregg Williams had echoed that night during a press conference when he lost it in front of the camera and said "I don't care if he plays football again, I just want him to make it."
That made me tear up.
So did seeing Jason Campbell get choked up and have to end a media session early on the 26th.
Seeing how Sean's teammates reacted made me proud of this team.
During the Buffalo game I felt that pride again when the team hit the field with only 10 players on defense.
Seeing what Joe Gibbs had to say about Sean before the game on the big screen hit me hard. Joe was the perfect leader for this team after such a horrific incident.
However, at the end of that game I was so disgusted about the loss that I threw my Redskins hat and Santana jersey that I was wearing into the trash can. My girlfriend got them out and talked some sense into me. I was just so mad and upset about what had happened to Sean that it all kind of came out at that moment.
Sean Taylor is a once-in-a-lifetime kind of player. More than likely, none of us will ever see a player like him again on our team. His cominbation of size, speed, athleticism and his very rare love for the game of football is not something you find in players these days.
The more I learned about his personal life the harder it was to accept that we had lost this wonderful person.
Sean,
I could go on forever about your short but stellar career but you know how we all feel about you.
Rest in Peace buddy. I hope to meet you one day and shake your hand and let you know how much I appreciate the memories you left us.
RIP #21, we will never forget you.

My thoughts on Taylor are similar. I loved the fact that our defense took on the personality of Sean's.... hard working... hard hitting... intimidating. The fact that I had no idea *who* Sean Taylor was made me ignorantly assume he had this coldness to him all the time. It was just so frustrating because I felt like I had never even heard an interview with the guy. It wasn’t until a friend asked me before the 2007 season who my favorite Redskin was, that I really knew what Taylor meant to this team... and to myself. I first said Chris Cooley without hesitation… then after thinking about it for a second… added in… “and Sean Taylor.” Those guys… along with Portis… *are* the Redskins.
Reading this WP article by Mike Wise in October really opened my eyes to the guy: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/10/26/AR2007102602183.html (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/10/26/AR2007102602183.html)
He almost had kind of a cult following among Redskins and even NFL fans because of his ferocious nature on the field. Last year gave us just a taste of his future dominance. It really is unbelievable he’s gone.

I'll never retire em. I keep them on my wall, and wear them from time to time. Almost got all of em now, just missing the white 26 from the U and red 21. It's crazy its been a year. I find myself feeling like something is forever missing from the D. I would always look forward to what he would do on every series. It blows me away how long his highlight films are for such a short career.
I can remember when I met him just for a second I was blown away. It was the fedex game when we killed dallas back in '05 35-7 game. A dallas guy went down for a while, so my buddy and I decided we would run around the stadium to where they go back to the locker room and see if we could shake a few hands. I stepped over the dream seat wall, my buddy did as well, they caught him, but let me be. For some reason Sean came over to the guy next to me and was talking to him as I went nuts taking pictures with my phone. he then ran away to the left of me, but someone had thrown a jersey to him so he stopped to sign it. I ran over and asked him if he could sign it, his response, "allright baby" lol. I was stoked, couldnt believe it. That jersey is retired. Best day of my life, to that point. I will be there sunday, RIP ST!file:///C:/DOCUME%7E1/Owner/LOCALS%7E1/Temp/moz-screenshot-2.jpgfile:///C:/DOCUME%7E1/Owner/LOCALS%7E1/Temp/moz-screenshot-1.jpgfile:///C:/DOCUME%7E1/Owner/LOCALS%7E1/Temp/moz-screenshot.jpg

I will be rocking my "ST21" on sunday at FedEx. I just wish he was still here. I mean he had a baby girl.. And he died because of a bunch of punk kids hoping to steal some stuff from a football players house. It is honestly quite surreal still thinking about it
The other week I was bored and took a look at my DVR. There were 2 Redskins games still on it
January 1st 2006, Washington Redskins vs Philadelphia Eagles
January 7th 2006, Washington Redskins vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers
I watched all the highlights from both games. And like his team mates do now when they watch film, I just kinda became numb whenever Taylor appeared on the film and especially during his 2 TD's in those games
Thinking back to how loud I was cheering in my house when Taylor scooped up the ball and took it for 31 yards against the Eagles to clinch our first playoff berth in 7 years. I ran upstairs and hugged my dad yelling "playoffs" thanks to the play Sean just made
Then the next week. Scooping up another fumble and off to the races. Redskins up 14-0 in a road playoff game
Really, how dominant would this defense be with Sean Taylor? With Laron Landry in his 2nd season. With DeAngelo Hall, a pro bowl level playing Carlos Rogers, Shawn Springs. Mix in Chris Horton coming off the bench and throw in Jason Taylor starting to get healthy. Andre Carter lined up across from him
Unbelievable the possiblities. the JLC article talks about how the coaches were just starting to dream up of wild things
Double safety blitz with Laron and Sean, with Springs dropping back to the free safety
Stacking both of them on one side, or having them split out wide to cover WR's while bringing a double corner blitz
You feel cheated as a Redskins fan because of how great this could have been
You feel cheated as a person because this guy, this 24 year old, was only starting to scratch the surface of his potential not only as a football player, but as a man.
I could imagine Sean maturing, opening up and becoming a fixture in this community as he grew up. Becoming all that he could be off the field

right, so why the move to 21?
Like he said above, Smoot still had the 21 when he was drafted. But from what I understand, most of the Miami players wear the 21 because the "U" is the 21st letter in the alphabet.
Examples:
Antrelle Rolle, Frank Gore, Sean, Willis when he was in Buffalo. I am sure there may be a few I am leaving out.

I miss how hard he played and then sence that we have the best safety in the league backing us up, but we all still do have him just looking down on our redskins and us the fans.

right, so why the move to 21?
Like he said above, Smoot still had the 21 when he was drafted. But from what I understand, most of the Miami players wear the 21 because the "U" is the 21st letter in the alphabet.
Examples:
Antrelle Rolle, Frank Gore, Sean, Willis when he was in Buffalo. I am sure there may be a few I am leaving out.
I didn't know the Miami thing for the #21, but I could swear I heard once on CSN that he switched to #21 when it became available, because that was the number Deion Sanders wore and he admired him. Again, I could be wrong, anyone else remember hearing/reading that?

Not sure, maybe it was a little closer to 26 to him? Like others have said, there's the Deion rumor too. Either way I liked 21 better than 36:2cents:
