So Madden and Michaels are talking about the hiring of John Harbaugh and then the start to talk about the owner. They cut to the owner and he is not sitting in a executive chair inside a suite like Jerry Jones or Dan Snyder. He is sitting OUTSIDE drinking a bud light!! Not a glass of wine, but a "metal" bottle bud light. I hate the Ravens, but I do respect the owner now.

I saw that and made a mental note about how cool that was. Jeffrey Lurie would never do something so down-to-earth.
It looks like you're getting it pretty hard so far in this thread, but I don't think there's anything odd about remarking on a billionaire owner behaving like a typical die hard. Very cool.

No, not at all. I just thought it was cool that the owner of the team chose to sit outside with the fans. Do you think Dan Snyder would ever do that??

if anyones read the book The Next Man Up, they know how cool the Ravens owner is. In the book, they basically say everyone that works for the Ravens calls him by his first name, even his secretaries. He seems like a regular guy who just happens to be rich so he bought a football team. You know Snyder is known as Mr. Snyder by his workers.

I saw that too. He put that beer a good ways away when the guy brought it to him and saw he was on camera. I laughed a little.

Here's another quick note for Snyder. For the people who have owners box seats that cost 200,000 before you pay 2,500 for one ticket and you are usually going to have to buy 12 tickets a game, you are allowed to go into Dans box and say hello to him, but you must and I mean must have on a coat and tie. If you are not wearing a suit you are not allowed in.

I certainly know nothing of you and wouldn't pretend anything different.
But I can speak for myself and say that a bajillion dollars wouldn't change the fact that sitting in a cold stadium surrounded by like-minded fans watching a game with playoff implications is a fun way to spend my time.
I think sitting in a luxury box eating crab cakes and sipping wine would get old fast.

I'm with you. It's Mark Cuban-esque.

I saw that too and remarked to my friends how refreshing it is to see someone so rich acting what is usually described as 'blue collar.' But I guess in b'more you would have to.

I work for Bisciotti and have met him personally. He is as real a billionaire as there is. I am a huger Redskins fan, but from a businees perspective, the Ravens reflect the attitude and leadership that Steven provides; a workmans approach with a selfless attitude. i wish I could echo the same sentiments for MR. SNYDER.

Bisciotti is such an elitist. If you want a beer, get up and get it yourself. Don't have one of your lackey's bring it to you...

A lot of the younger owners have learned from Mark Cuban. Cuban has sat in every section since he bought the Mavs and really has a feel for how the fans experience the game.
In an interview with Bill Simmons a few years ago, Simmons suggested that they try a game without all the commands from the Jumbotron and contests during TOs. So, Cuban did it. And said it was the most complaints he ever received after a game.
Cuban can be a jerk, but I respect him for the way he has forged a bond between that franchise and a once-dead fanbase.

I understand that and I enjoy occasionaly being out in the cold drinking beer but I really enjoy being comfortable with a private bathroom drinking anything I want and not havning to deal with traffic after..
I think that it would be a nice break... cause I am the guy that is outside with beer in the cold ..

What you saw on TV was very typical. Steve once attended a Ravens Roost event in Annapolis (near his home) when he was minority owner before the 2000 season, to get a chance to mingle with the fans. He shunned the celebrity status, reserving that for the players being featured. Afterwards, Steve hung out at the bar with me & wife just b.s.-ing about the Ravens fortunes, tailgating etc typical fan jabber. You would have never known that he was a billionaire NFL owner.
There are bars around the Annapolis area and Eastern Shore where Steve currently hangs out, mingles with other Ravens fans, totally like an average Joe fan.
I hate the Ravens, but I do respect the owner now.
I don't hate Redskins team, used to really dislike the Redskins fans but now I am mellowing -- Last night I met a lot of cool Redskins fans. I laugh at the Napoleanic complex of the Redskins' midget owner and sympathize with what he has done to this once awesome franchise.

Come on guys, the Ravens beat us and now we're talking about how much better their owner is because he sits out in the cold and drinks bud light?

on a related note, I want a straight trade : the Raven's Front Office personnel for ours. We can keep our owner but he has to have his mouth duct-taped during draft week.

I didn't see anybody else sitting near him. So how can you claim he was sittin w/ the fans? Maybe it's his box seat and thier is a lil area for them to leave to watch the game outside. Just sayin..

A great read for any football fan. Lot's of skins references by the way. The contrasts between Snyder and Bisciotti could not be more severe. Snyder is an egomanical with an an inferiority complex. Bisciotti is a man who sees beyond money and realizes that character is one million times more valuable.
