Profootballtalk.com has confirmed that the Jets have fired Eric Mangini.

From 8-3 and on top of the football world to fired in five weeks. Mangini finishes with two winning seasons out of three, and a 23-25 overall record. GM Mike Tannenbaum bears just as much blame, but is staying. This is not a young team and is built for a 3-4 defense, so this overly emotional decision may cause the team to step back in the short term. We don't think the Jets underachieved under Mangini, but his lack of communication skills stuck out when it became clear his weekly gameplanning didn't measure up to his mentor. With the Spygate stink on him, Mangini seems unlikely to get another head coaching job right away.

I did! Mangini sucks. The Jets suck! LOL. J/K. But seriously, they are hot and cold. Favre is just as sporatic as the defense is on that team. They remind me a lot of the Redskins to be honest.

Good lord. That was a stupid decision...maybe the Skins can bring him in.

Looks like Favre might be gone now too...I doubt he wants to learn a new system again.

I am no real Man Genius fan myself but he might work well in someplace like Detriot or KC.

Don't think Spags would be interested in the NYJ job. They have the personell to run a 3-4 and spags is a 4-3 coach.

They spent 50 mil on Calvin Pace this offseason to be a rush linebacker. He was horrible at DE but pretty good as a rush LB in the 3-4. Brian Thomas, former first round pick, was a bust but has played pretty well in the 3-4. They could make a nice 4-3 DL with what they have, but I don't think it plays to their strength.

That collapse had something to do with it too, and also there was a report that Mangini and Farve didn't get along too.

Keep in mind, it is 80 degrees in Miami today not a cloud in the sky, half of NY retired there, he already has their QB and the Dolphins are in the playoffs.

I know it would never happen but I would love for the Browns, Jets, and Notre Dame to say that they don't need to honor their contracts because they were hired under false pretenses. They did not disclose in interviews that they were involved in cheating to win Super Bowls.

Wasn't he a coordinator for one season? He might have needed some seasoning before he got the big boy chair. Then again, Brett Favre may not have come back if EM statyed.

Favre needs to go away. 22 TD and 22 INT? That's horrible. And I think I heard he had 18 INT in his last 12 games. He's probably the sole reason for their collapse. And remember, he had 6 TD in one game.

Another coach who had a pretty good first season gets the axe. That's why I take more than one season to judge a head coach, good or bad.

I never really understood getting Favre. I never thought they had enough talent on this team to make a run and the whole thing stank of desperation. Meanwhile, Favre probably wishes he was sent to Tampa. Now there is a team that he could have made a run with...

Last summer Tuna's house on a golf course and down the road from the race track he frequents in Saratoga NY was completed. He also loves the Northeast where he has many friends and family along with ties inside the Jets organization.

It's also worth mentioning that only a lunatic (axe murderer, masochist, or serial rapist) would choose to live in Florida.

Yeah, I never really got the fascination with Mangini, other than that he worked with Belichick. He didn't have much coordinator experience, plus he was the D coordinator under Belichick, and I think it's a safe bet that Belichick was still heavily involved in the defensive gameplans.

That being said, I think he can be a good coach one day. He did have two out of three winning seasons, although the collapse this year was really inexcusable. Mangini should go somewhere and get a coordinator job, if he can. He's a young guy, he'll probably eventually get another shot as a head coach several years from now.

Did Mangina name his newborn after Brett?

Also, Mangini must've gained about 50 lbs this past offseason. I swear to you... I didnt even recognize the guy when they showed him on tv for the first time in the 2008 season.

Lame move by the Jets organization.

They made a decent run this year.
