Been busy writing some on line stuff for newsday.com and we'll be headed into the locker room soon for player reaction. Two players who will be most sad to see Mangini go: Leon Washington who, despite getting the ball inconsistently, is a huge Mangini fan, and nose tackle Kris Jenkins, who passionately defended Mangini after yesterday's game.
But today is mostly about looking forward. A league source expects the Jets to at least reach out to Bill Cowher, and Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, if he decides he wants to leave the Giants, could get a look as well. There will be plenty of more names added to that list of course.
One interesting quote from this morning's press conference - one of the odder ones I've attended I have to say - was Woody Johnson saying a coach coming in who wanted GM duties basically won't happen.
"It's too much," Johnson said. "There's no way, no way that you can do it in my opinion, and really do it because you're always relying on somebody else. You may think you have the power, but you can't make those discerning decisions, there's just too much work, and be a coach."
I'm not sure what all of that means, but you get the idea. I think. All right, we're off to the locker room. I'll be back periodically.
