http://www.usatoday.com/life/movies/news/2008-12-29-new-year-list_N.htm

>>>January-February

Bride Wars (Jan. 9). Hoping to tap into the growing power of female moviegoers, Fox begins the year with this Anne Hathaway/Kate Hudson comedy about two friends who become rivals when they schedule their weddings on the same date.

Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience (Feb. 27). It worked for Hannah Montana, so why not for the crooning teen idols?

March-April

Watchmen (March 6). No comic-book movie has more expectations on its shoulders than this dark Zack Snyder adaptation about a band of dysfunctional superheroes.

Race to Witch Mountain (March 13). Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson continues his transition to family film leading man with this remake of the Disney classic about two kids with paranormal powers on the run from aliens and shady government agencies.

Duplicity (March 20). Julia Roberts and Clive Owen team up as a pair of corporate spies plotting a con job on their respective bosses.

Fast and Furious (April 3). Vin Diesel and Paul Walker return to the franchise about men who just can't drive 55.

May

X-Men Origins: Wolverine (May 1). Summer kicks into high gear with the latest installment of the mutant franchise, this time anchored by Hugh Jackman's hairy hero with long nails and a short fuse.

Star Trek (May 8). J.J. Abrams revisits the Enterprise with an origins story.

Angels & Demons (May 15). Da Vinci Code star Tom Hanks returns (with better hair) as inquisitive symbologist Robert Langdon.

Night at the Museum II: Battle of the Smithsonian (May 22). Ben Stiller just can't get enough of exhibits that come to life, and this time infiltrates the Smithsonian.

June

Land of the Lost (June 5). Hollywood loves dead TV shows, and Will Ferrell stars in this adaptation about a group that stumbles into a land of dinosaurs and Sleestaks.

The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 (June 12). Denzel Washington and John Travolta star in this remake of the Walter Matthau caper about robbers who target a subway train.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (June 26). The shape-shifting robots are back and bigger than ever in this bombastic sequel.

July-August

Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs (July 1). Our favorite prehistoric ani- mals return for a third installment of a $1.2 billion franchise, this time with a film produced completely in 3-D.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (July 17). The book series may be finished, but the film series has a few installments still to go.

G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra (Aug. 7). Brendan Fraser stars in this story about the heroic squadron in constant battle with the arms-dealing Cobra organization.

September-October

Fame (Sept. 25). A remake of the 1980 musical about aspiring students at the New York Academy of Performing Arts.

Shutter Island (Oct. 2). Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio (The Departed) reunite for this story about a U.S. marshal investigating a murderess who escaped from a mental hospital.

November

The Wolfman (Nov. 6). Benicio del Toro dons the furry costume in this action film about the monster with full-moon anger-management issues.

Sherlock Holmes (Nov. 20). Robert Downey Jr. becomes the plucky British detective whose sidekick Watson (Jude Law) remains by his side.

December

The Lovely Bones (Dec. 11). Peter Jackson leaves the Shire to direct this drama about a young girl who has been murdered and watches over her family and her killer from the great beyond.

Avatar (Dec. 18). In his first feature film since Titanic, James Cameron returns with a sci-fi epic about a band of scientists and astronauts who discover a planet populated by diverse life and deadly ammonia-breathing life forms.<<<

May really looks to be a good month for movies.

Im happy that Wolverine and Star Trek are coming out a week apart. It seemed like every week this summer some new great movie was coming out and I was waiting in line.

James Cameron = Money in the bag folks. This sounds like the only movie I'll see in the theater this year.

Hopefully the new transformers movie will actually star the transformers themselves instead of the worlds worst actors. I'll go see that and star trek and wolverine. Love the X-men movies.

I must admit I'm intrigued by the Angels and Demons movie.

I am waiting to see the Friday the 13th remake. For all of you Transformers fans Michael Bay is one of the producers. It comes out 2/13/09

Honestly it doesn't matter to me that they've made 11 of these now (12 if you count Freddy vs Jason). All I want is more mayhem and violence, and I don't care how cheezy it is. Although I've read that some individuals that helped create the Texas Chainsaw remake are involved so it might not be bad at all.

Rumor has it that Rob Zombie may make a sequel to Halloween. I sort of would like to see some elements of the original Halloween sequel retained. A murderous rampage inside a hospital with updated special effects could be downright awesome. I don't know if they will go in that direction though. This might come out in 2009.

Allegedly Rob Zombie is working on a movie called Tyannosaurus Rex- about a pro wrestler named Tyrannosaurus Rex to goes up against a biker gang from hell for as of right now unspecified reasons. I'm sure it will be entertaining. I'm not sure if it will be coming out in 2009.

GI Joe will suck. They are adapting GI Joe into a UN type outfit that stands for Global Integrated Joint Operating Entity. Plus, the photos show the "good guys" wearing all black.

Transformers was OK (minus Bumblebee not being a VW bug, but instead the Concept Camaro), but they are going to ruin the GI Joe of my childhood.

I can't believe most of you are blowing off James Cameron, especially with the mentions of the new (presumably CRAPPY) Terminator. He directed the first two, and anything he touches turns to gold. I'm expecting "Avatar" to be worth the $950 it takes to see a movie nowadays.

I'd be a bit worried about Transformers having a sequel this fast. It seems kinda rushed IMO. But I am looking forward to Wolverine and Harry Potter.

If I remember correctly, it's not a sequel....

Of that list, I'm looking forward to seeing Watchmen (hopefully. stupid lawsuits), Wolverine, Star Trek, GI Joe, and Avatar.
Many of the rest, I'll see just because...

I have no problem with african american heroes, asian heroes, latin heroes, etc. but when you take the liberty to change the race on your own it bugs me.

like beyonce wants to be wonder woman. you cant make her black because thats not what she is. she never has been...:2cents:

I agree. The character was written/drawn a certain way. To change something as big as the character's race it doesn't feel right. You don't see male actors trying to become Wonder Woman or Catwoman. If your going to make a movie based on something do it the way it was intended.......:2cents::2cents::2cents:

I'm not sure if said rule applies only to iconic heroes, but it seems to.

I thought it was kind of cool seeing Samuel L Jackson as Nick Fury at the end of Iron Man. He was already better than David Hasselhoff, and he had maybe 3 minutes of screen time.

Green Lantern in the Justice League cartoon was good.

Although I do see where certain icons should not be tampered with.

I don't know, I didn't mind them casting Michael Clarke Duncan as The Kingpin. Too bad it wasn't a better movie.

I'm looking forward to Watchmen, Wolverine and Star Trek. I was apprehensive of the last two, but the new trailers have sold me.

I've been waiting for Avatar since I read the scriptment that was hanging out on the web for years. I'm interested to see what it ends up looking like. I'm always interested in Harry Potter, tho I still haven't seen the last one, and it will probably be a while before I see the new one as well.

Yeah, that is another good example. I liked him way better than the rest of the movie. I'd actually watch a spinoff, although I don't know what it would be about. Except him being a gangster. Well that would probably work.

I'll probably see 4-5 others when they come out on Blu-ray. Not that excited about next year's lineup.

I thought that I had read that. Anyhow that guy was tough.

And indeed BigMike none of those characters are as iconic as WW.

I just happen to like when something that has been changed works out well.

Sadly in my humble opinion a Wonder Woman movie will be DOA unless they find an unknown to play her. These established Hollywood broads won't cut it, not a one.

I agree about the WW movie. I have NO problems with black super heroes but why not just make one up like Hancock? I know that movie was a comedy but it took a turn where he was indeed a hero. You can make a Storm movie, War Machine, Cloak and Dagger, etc. I dont think they should remake her as a different race. It will take away authenticity.

enough about that..

I REALLY hope they do a good job with Gambit. he IS HUGE in mutant world...:2cents:

The Surrogates

Plot: In the near future, humans live in isolation and only interact through robotic bodies that serve as surrogates. When several surrogates are murdered, a cop (Bruce Willis) investigates the crimes through his own surrogate. The investigation forces the cop to bring his human form out of isolation and unravel a conspiracy behind the crimes.

I should've amended that to USA Today's Top Movies. They didn't even list the "Terminator Movie"; I guess they think "Night of the Museum 2" will make more money the same day? They both come out Memorial Day Weekend.

Going through the list of upcoming films, I'm surprised the next Pixar film, Up, isn't in the list. I'm always game for what they have in the pipeline.
