we have a 1st, 3rd, 5th, and 7th? How can we attain more picks?

i think the best way to do this is trade our first rounder and possibly get a low 1st and 2nd, or trade whomever we can have value out of. What do you guys think? should we keep our 13th pick overall or trade it away?

We can't trade rogers unless we get a late 1st or early second for him. And that aint gonna happen. We gotta sign him 2 an extension along with Hall. Hopefully we can trade Betts, Randel El, or Andre Carter. Maybe get a 4th or 5th rounder, please.

My thoughts exactly...

Sometimes people should actually browse the board first before they just post something...What may have been your "eureeka!" moment in regards to needing more draft picks has been stated and restated on numerous threads already.

With all of the players we have been trading for him he can walk away with boat load of picks.

The only way to get more draft picks is to trade down. But whether you want to trade down from the 13th pick depends upon who is available at that spot. If an OT is available there is no way I would trade down.

The question that should be asked is why we are always short of draft picks. Trading down (theoretically) means that you are getting players with lesser talent or who are further away from being productive in the NFL. Of course it doesn't always work that way but if all teams are equally adept at judging talent and potential the best players will rise to the top.

If you are short of draft picks then you have to determine whether the players you obtained (by giving up draft picks) are worth the cost of those trades. The Skins history on giving up draft picks for players is downright awful.

This is a really good idea...getting more draft picks. Shoot, we should do that every year.

Alright. If one of the four big OT are still on the board at 13 you take them, if not, try to trade back.

If there is someone on the board at 13 that will likely be gone at a higher pick, and you know a team covets that person, call them up. Try to trade the 13th for a 1st and either 2nd or 3rd depending on how the points work. Always start with trying a 1st and 2nd, but if they don't drop it to 3rd.

This puts us at 5 picks.

Look to extend Rogers first and foremost to a good, but not over the top contract. If he won't take it look around for trade. Accept it only if its one of the following:

1st round and one high round pick
2nd round pick paired with a 3rd through 5th depending

If he won't take a good but not great extension, and we can't get one of those combos, we keep him on and tell him to deal with it.

If the trade happens, it sets us to 6 or 7 picks. A couple possabilities here perhaps.

Atlanta's 1st and 5th (that they got from Oakland). Jets 2nd and 4th (the 4th they got from us).

Another potential odd one could be maybe Detroits 3rd round (their actual one) plus both their 6th rounds (they get 1 from dallas and their own). Give us three picks, though lower, and gives Detroit a good corner to fix that defense.

I doubt Randel El would be good trade bait simply because of his large salary and because he's no longer viewed as a special teams threat.

Bett's, perhaps look at Denver to see if they'd trade the 5th rounder they got from Seattle for him. Perhaps see if Cleveland or Arizona (A pass happy team, with Bett's being a good hands RB) would part with a 4th or 5th for him.

And here's a possible shake up. Contact the Seahawks about possibly a 3rd or more likely a 4th plus Owen Schmitt for Big Mike Sellars. Hear me out here...

Mike is a Pro Bowler for the first time, coming off a bit year and one where he got a lot of recognition. If there was ever a year we may get some value for him, it'd be this one. He's also getting a bit older though and isn't going to be around forever. Strike where the iron is hot. Schmitt would give us a young fullback to replace him, and it gives us another potential draft pick.

Andre Carter would be an example of why I say this with Sellars. A year ago he may've been good trade bait coming off a double digit sack year. This year, he'd get little to nothing.

There's some of my thoughts.

Trade down our first 13 for Philly's two firsts 22 and 29.
Trade Randle El to what ever team Cowher will be coaching (if he coaches) for a third.
I love Portis, but he is getting up in RB age and I think will have his highest value we are going t get right about now. I dont know what he is worth... but we could definitley pick up a few picks... or even another player AND some picks...

Trade down for 2nd and 3rd round picks and draft as many OL and DL guys as we can. Plain and simple.

Are you kidding? Let me count the ways this post is wrong.

We won't get two 2nds for our #13, let alone two 1sts.

Cowher isn't coaching, and is too smart to want ARE.

No one is going to trade for Randle El; if they did, hes not worth more than a 6th or 7th, at best. And hes not getting traded cause he has multiple years left and his cap hit is about $6 mil, so it doesn't free up any space.

And Portis is not going ANYWHERE until his contract is up, or at least 3 more years - if we released him this year, it would COST us $8 mil.

I hate to say "This isn't Madden", but....yikes.

We've got several options for getting more picks.

Golston, Montgomery and Doughty are all restricted free agents. There's a chance they may get interest. You tender them as high as possible then let it be known you're willing to negotiate on compensation.

Some people think we'll trade Rogers.

Trade down a few spots. But not out of the first round. If you can't find someone you want at the thirteenth spot in the draft you should be fired.

Trade next year's first rounder. Try to get two picks for it. Although it's said that you gnerally have to go one round lower in a trade for the next year's draft I bet you could get a second and a fourth for it. Go into both drafts with six picks.

Trade Rogers to the Lions for the 33rd pick. They need another corner and apparently Leigh Bodden wants out. :2cents:

Man, sending anyone to the Lions is just WRONG. If we're going to be idiots and part ways with him at least send him to a team that will have a chance to win some games in the next 5 years.

WHY would we want to do that? :whoknows:
