View Full Version : Your 5 Favorite Albums of ALL TIME!

List your 5 favorite albums and explain why they are your favorites. I'll start.

This is not for debate or attacking each others musical likings.

1. The Marshall Mathers LP, Eminem

First rap album I ever heard and to this day, it's still my favorite.

I don't have anything negative to say about this album.

Best Tracks: "Kill You", "The Way I Am", "**** Please II"

2. American Idiot, Green Day

Say what you want about Green Day but you won't convince me to not like this album. I first heard it on a trip to Myrtle Beach and it still gets lots of love from me to this day.

Best Tracks: "Jesus Of Suburbia", "Give Me Novacaine"

3. Graduation, Kanye West

By far the best Kanye album. Sure, the dude can barely rhyme but he knows how to make hits. This album has them from beginning to end (minus the retarded "Drunk and Hot Girls")

Best Tracks: "Good Life", "Flashing Lights", "Big Brother"

4. Comatose, Skillet

If you have never heard this band, check them out ASAP. This album has a great sound.

Best Tracks: "Comatose", "Better Than Drugs", "Looking For Angels"

5. Tupac Ressurection: The Soundtrack, 2Pac and Various Artists

If you're a casual Pac listener and you're looking for a place to start, this is it. Includes some new music and songs from the past as well.

Best Tracks: "Runnin (Dyin' To Live)", "Ghost", "Starin' Through My Rearview", "Same Song"

This will hopefully be easy :)

P.O.D.: Fundamental Elements of Southtown - "Southtown was the first P.O.D. song I heard and I've been hooked ever since. I've played the **** out of this cd and they are my favorite band. Every track is awesome.

MXPX: The Ever Passing Moment - my first taste of "punk" in middle school. This is another cd that I've never stopped playing.

Authority Zero: Andiamo - another one of those, first tastes of a band. These guys are awesome and the music couldn't be more catchy.

Blink 182: Enema of the State - just awesome.

Shinedown: Sound of Madness - I love every track on this cd and it has one of my favorite songs (Second Chance) on it.

1. Eric B & Rakim: Paid In Full - flawless production, flawless rhymes. introduced complex rhyme schemes to rap. best hip hop album ever.

2. Public Enemy: It Takes A Nation Of Millions - Chuck D at his absolute best on this one. more flawless production

3. Marvin Gaye: What's Going On - not many could've pulled this album off, but he did it perfectly.

4. GZA: Liquid Swords - one of hip hops finest lyricists over RZA's incredibly dark production. RZA was at his best on this one, combined with GZA being at his best.

5. Goodie Mob: Soul Food - they named the south dirty. Cee-Lo spit some of the best rhymes i've heard on this album.

As others have said, it changes daily. The first two will always be there though. I tend to gravitate towards gritty bangin beats and raw lyrics with some consciousness thrown in there.

Oh, and if I had to add two non hip-hop albums, it would be Cannonball Adderly- Somethin' Else and Nirvana- Nevermind(just listened to this for the first time in like 12 years last week. Wow.)

1. Metallica - MOP
2. Pantera - Vulgar Display of Power
3. Megadeth - Symphony of Destruction
4. Beatles - Sgt Peppers
5. Skillet - Comatose - TJ turned me on to this band and this album is solid, now ranks in my top 5, not a song on there I don't like.

In all honesty, he's probably one of the best, if not the best of todays artist. He can actually play instruments and I believe he writes some of his own material unlike many of todays "entertainers." And his voice isn't all that bad.

I'll do 3 as after that I could change the listing any time, but when I as in my teens these three albums were played to death:

1.

http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g214/highway_star_pics/mij.jpg

easily my most influential band ever at their peak

2.

http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g214/highway_star_pics/giclee-rainbow-rising.jpg

to me, Blackmore defined the genre that was to come with the likes of Iron Maiden etc. A stunning album.

3.

This was difficult, and I might decide later to change some of my entries. The first two are no-brainers for me. Then I tried to think of albums where I liked the entire album and I had spent significant time listening to it again and again - albums that aren't "greatest hits" albums. That rules out a lot of music (especially recent music, because I just don't listen to music as much as I used to).

Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon

Color me surprised, I didnt think anyone on this message board would have even heard of Avett Brothers, let alone place them in their top 5. That is a great album. I don't know if I can pick a favorite though. Those two bastards are so gifted it hurts.

You are correct, and they put on the best live performance i have ever seen. Four Theives was the first album i heard of theirs and ive been hooked ever since. Mignonette ranks right up there also.

lots of great lists in here. Sgt. Peppers, Led Zepp, Stevie Wonder, Pink Floyd, U2, Metalica, Bob Marley, The Who, and Wang Chung made a lot of peoples lists. China, I'm surprised (or not) at the lack of Santana fans ,but then again I've seen Carlos haters in some thread, particularly the guitar players- good figure.

Currently, they are:

Pink Floyd- The Wall - I feel like, this album seems to mean so many different things to so many people. To some, it represents a real wall, like the Berlin Wall. To others, it's more figurative & metaphorical then real. Eitherway, these guys did some major drugs that sent their music into a whole new dimension.

Pink Floyd- Wish You Were Here - To me, Shine On You Crazy Diamonds is one of the best songs they ever do. I love all the instrumentals to the different parts of that song & how they seems to string all the songs in the album together into seemingly one long ass song.

Metallica- Master of Puppets - This one was actually a toss-up between their 1st 4 albums, so, realistically, I could've chosen any one of them. Kill 'Em All, Ride The Lightning, Master of Puppets, & ...Justice were their best albums. I chose Master of Puppets because of Orion & Welcome Home (Sanitarium). After ...Justice, they sold out. There was a time when NO ONE else sounded like Metallica...or vice versa. They stopped doing instrumentals on their albums, & they now sound just like everyone else on the radio.

Bob Marley- Legends - I don't really need an explanation for that one, do I? :silly:

Focused- Bow - Christian rock band that never really seemed to get very far. I can kind of understand that, tho. I have a lot of Christian rock & very little of it comes close to Focused. Very uncompromising in their lyrics & implemented a lot of Bible verses, word for word, into their songs. Their sound was a bit raw, but it still ranks as one of my favorite Christian rock albums. :notworthy

That 2Pac cover is not 2pacalypse. That is "All Eyes On Me". I love both of those collections, but I think "Me Against The World" is right up there with his best work.

Top 5 for me is hard to do for me. Same as BigMike, I am too diverse to just go with one top 5 in rap, rock, jazz, blues, pop, metal, etc.
