View Full Version : Speed of Secondary - Amazing

I watch every single game with one of my best friends and his girlfriend. Never miss a game together, and this year with his new job, and me picking up a bunch more duties at my church, we both were not going to be able to watch some games together. But it turns out we recorded them, avoided tv/internet, and watched them late Sunday night for 3 games, including Dallas in D, Eagles in W, and Cleveland.

I watched some of each game recovering yesterday from lack of sleep on NYE, and what I noticed was the speed of the Skins Secondary. (I also noticed maybe me and my buddy shouldn’t watch games when they are live, as the skins went 3-0 in these games!). As I rewatched some of the games, I was really was amazed at how phenomenal the Skins D is in coverage/getting to the ball. From game 1’s debacle to Philly’s game there was VAST improvement in coverage. I also noticed avoiding Landry’s way and picking on the rookies Horton/Moore. Teams respect Landry, and since there isn’t an ST opposite him, teams went that way. I think Horton can improve a lot, but he did really well for being a non highly-touted rookie.

A lot of people have been saying “get rid of springs”, etc. I don’t understand. We aren’t the GM, why do we care what he gets paid or if he is often injured? There is no reason anyone should say get rid of Springs, because he is often injured. The simple fact is, for those 10-12 games he is healthy, he is an ASSET TO THE TEAM. He’s not a hindrance at all. Hopefully the Skins can resign Hall, and with 4 CB’s of this caliber, this defense should be a top 5 defense yet again. The way he can shut down a TO and other receivers of that caliber, why let him do that for another team?

The other thing, however, was lack of pass rush. Now in the Eagles game, Jason Taylor looked like the Jason Taylor of Miami. No question. With a few near sacks to add to the 2 sacks and all, there is no question I want Jason Taylor in B&G next year. Him being healthy could mean the world to the lack of sacks in the Skins D. With the coverage of the skins D, there should be NO excuse for the lack of sacks, as there should be more coverage sacks. The DT position should be looked at in the draft which I think directly affects the pass rush inadequacies.

Sorry for the rambling, I have 16 hour work day and figured some skins talk would help me through it!

I'd say Shawn Springs was a hindrance to D. Hall getting an interception, which could've gone for 6.

Good post and I agree with the DT part. Did you mean to say that they're 0-3 live? Cause otherwise keep watching them live. Please.

All 3 games we watched hours after they were over, the Skins won. It was just a wierd coincidence.

i think that jason taylor was a lot more effective in that philly game because blache used him more as a pass rushing olb rather than an end with his hand in the dirt. taylor is just too small to be able to get past a rt when coming out of a three point stance. when the tackle has to decide whether to block evans or taylor it is a lot easier for him to get to the qb. that said a huge dt that can collapse the pocket will do wonders for our line.

If we keep Springs I gotta feeling C Rog is gone. Which is not a good look for the future unless we get a great deal. I agree Springs is a beast when he's healthy but he hasnt had a healthy season since he's been here I believe. If we could keep all 4 of them it would be awesome and we'd have to just focus on that pass rush.

Bye Jason Taylor and Carlos Rogers.

Losing Los would hurt a lot more than Taylor...although i would love to see both still here.

Good observation, our secondary was lights out this year.

I think we need a DT, a solid DE backup, and some LB depth to become an elite defense. Hopefully Los and Springs stay and I hope Tryon gets better too.

I'd love to see Rogers stay, but it doesn't appear to be what the team intends on doing.

Taylor is more of a liability IMO.
