I bought myself a Xbox 360 for Christmas this year and also got Call of Duty: World At War. I have also bought some other games such as Left 4 Dead, GTA: IV, and Mirror's Edge. I beat Left 4 Dead the day I got it so I returned because it started getting to predictable and I began to not see much replay value in it, in exchange for returning it I got Grand Theft Auto IV, which is the only Grand Theft Auto I haven't beat yet and also Mirror's Edge. I have almost beaten Mirror's Edge as I am on one of the last missions but stopped due to playing CoD solo campaign and on xbox live. So my question to you is this, which Xbox game would you get next after trading in Mirror's Edge (presumably once I beat it) that have a great storyline/single player mode and are fun to play?

It's like Resident Evil 4 in Space. Not much replay value but I think it's worth it for the first playthrough alone.
I'm surprised no one suggested Bioshock. Buy Bioshock and enjoy the city of Rapture.:2cents:
If you liked Left 4 Dead try playing Dead Rising if you get the chance.

Left 4 Dead was alright until I beat it then I got tired of it.
I was also thinking about getting DC vs. Mortal Kombat. Does anyone have reviews on that?

Call of Duty 4.
I know you like single player, but if you get a craving for FPS and online play, this is the game for you.
Otherwise, Assasin's Creed definitely has a good single player.

Left 4 dead is more fun when you play multiplayer. Also, if you play the game on normal, you are going to beat it in a day.

Agreed. Also I can't stand it when my team aren't using mics or go off wandering off by themselves because it hurts the rest of the team. Finally played some versus last night and it was intense. Am I the only one that thinks the hunter is the crappiest infected to use? I can get at least 1-2 every game with the smoker and the boomer is the easiest because all you have to do is vomit are explode around survivors.

Crackdown is an awesome game. You will have a blast with it. Gears of War 1 & 2 are fun also, good storyline. I have Fallout 3 on PC and its fun as well, lots to do. I didn't care for Halo 3. Mercenaries 2 is fun as well.

It takes a few rounds as each to type to get a good understanding of their strengths and weaknesses. The Hunter is most effective when used in tandem with a Smoker or if you manage to get decent fall damage. Pounce someone from a roof and you can take them out pretty fast. The Boomer is possibly the strongest of the special infected, next to the Tank. His ability to blind is best used in tandem with the others though.
(sorry for the derailment)
As for the best Xbox 360 games:
Fallout 3 (amazing game)
Madden 2009 (EA actually got a lot right this year)
Bioshock
CoD 4 (I would also have to go with World at War because it's essentially the same game with a few differences)
Crackdown (another game that really excels in multiplayer)
Saint Row 2 or GTA IV with the slight edge to Saints because the mini games were more fun.
Dead Space (I haven't completed this yet but it's a great survival horror game)

I love the hunter, you just have to wait and pick off someone who is lagging behind, or wait for r another hunter and tag team. I think the smoker is the weakest, just because he is a one trick pony with the tongue, and he diesnt take away enough health at one time. I wish when he blew up, the smoke slowely drained your health. However, i get the most satisfaction when i kill someone with the Smoker because i find it the hardest to kill people with. I prefer the boomer, then the hunter, then the smoker, then the tank. I really like Vs. mode though.

I personally like Left 4 Dead I've played with Redd before and we had a blast. It is definetaly a game that is 100x better online when you play with peeps with mics. Other games I personally have liked.
Halo 3 I know its a bit old but man was it fun until
COD 4 blast of a game as well, I cant seem to get into the new one as much (COD 5)
Gears of War 2 fun game campaign mode and Horde mode are the best.
Fable 2 has good replay value if you want to start the game over and do things different ei be good instead of evil.
Guitar Hero World Tour is extremely fun when playing with other people i play with my gf
Fallout 3 if you are only going to buy one game and want to spend hundreds of hours on it, this is the one

Are the Guitar Hero World Tour compatible with Rock Band? I've looked online and GH: WT is somewhere around 50.00 cheaper including drums, guitar, and mic. Also, I like the Guitar Hero setlist more (Love that 'Beautiful Disaster' is in it).

My list would definitely include Halo 3 (I'm an addict) for multiplayer, CoD4 for campaign, and Bioshock for RPGish gameplay.
BTW, Bioshock is the most beautiful and well-conceived game I've ever played. I honestly think it's better looking than CoD4, and the ambiance that's created in the game is unparalleled.

I just found this on wikipedia so I am guessing that yes they are compatible
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guitar_Hero_IV (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guitar_Hero_IV)
Instrument compatibility
World Tour will work with older Guitar Hero guitar controllers.[4] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guitar_Hero_IV#cite_note-ign_preview-3) Activision stated during their E3 2008 press conference that Xbox 360 users will be able to use the existing Rock Band (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rock_Band) instrument controllers as well as other third party controllers in Guitar Hero World Tour;[26] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guitar_Hero_IV#cite_note-25) Rock Band instruments for the PlayStation 3 are not guaranteed to work in World Tour, though Sony is attempting to help make these units compatible.[27] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guitar_Hero_IV#cite_note-ps3_instrument_compat-26) All Rock Band original Harmonix instruments for PlayStation 2 will work with World Tour. According to issue 027 of the UK's Official Playstation Magazine (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlayStation_Official_Magazine_(UK)), all Guitar Hero and Rock Band PS3 controllers are cross-compatible with all games (except for Guitar Hero: World Tour drums on Rock Band, however some require patching, which is done automatically when connected to the internet
Console makers have helped to ensure instrument compatibility between current and upcoming guitar and band games. Both Sony[27] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guitar_Hero_IV#cite_note-ps3_instrument_compat-26) and Microsoft[28] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guitar_Hero_IV#cite_note-27) have announced that instruments for World Tour, Rock Band 2 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rock_Band_2), and Konami (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Konami)'s Rock Revolution (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rock_Revolution) will work between all three games on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The Wii version of the game only supports guitar controllers from previous Guitar Hero games, and "no compatibility with any other peripherals".[29] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guitar_Hero_IV#cite_note-28)
World Tour adjusts the tracks in the game to account for the instrument controller being used. For example, sections of the lead guitar track that are designed to be played on the new World Tour controller's touchpad can be played by tapping the frets on older controllers without strumming.[4] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guitar_Hero_IV#cite_note-ign_preview-3) When using Rock Band's drum controller, which has one fewer percussion pad than the World Tour unit and lacks velocity sensitivity, two of the lanes on the "World Tour" drum board merge, reducing the note track to four drum pads and bass pedal, and no armored notes are presented.[23 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guitar_Hero_IV#cite_note-wired_rb_instruments-22)

I recently signed up to X-Box Live last month just to get...
Super Street Fighter II HD Remix- it is absolutely one of the best games I have ever played. Smooth hand drawn HD graphics with the Super Street Fighter II Turbo Engine. Which is considered to be one of the best fighting games of all time. Only $15 in X-Box points, I'd have paid $60 to have a game disc. It is that good.
But that's not all I've found that X-Box Live has other quality downloads....for around $8 to $10 a piece.
1. Double Dragon Arcade remade in HD. Just as fun as it was in 1987- and that was the ish back in the day.
2. Pac Man Tournament Edition- a great remake that is even more manic than the original.
3. Contra- speaks for itself
4. Super C- ditto
5. TMNT the Arcade game- reminds how great the arcade was and how the NES port didn't match up.
6. Samurai Shodown II- another amazing fighter that afficionados will love.
X-Box live has hooked me up with some old classics.

If you like arcade games, Catan is a great game based off of a European board game. Cult classic right there. I also liked Alien Hominid HD and Castle Crashers because of the artistry of both games (same artist). I didnt do many arcade classics like double dragon or Streets of Rage or Contra because its more nestalgic then anything. The game play still sucks for the most part, its repetative and the replay value on those games is pretty low. Hell, there arent a lot of arcade games that the replay value is great on. Catan is one of those games though because it is a multi player gmae spawned from a board game.

The game is great, it was the little kids screaming into the mics and spewing racial crap every ten seconds and the modem glitch/ other cheats that would manipulate the game somehow. That is what killed Halo 3 for me. I liked the game, hated the kids playing.

I just beat the first Gears of War and that game was KICK ASS!!! you gotta play it on hardcore though and if you have someone else who wants to play the game with you it is that much more fun.
conan was a great hack and slash game. real gory and nudity.

Yeah, you are right about Halo2 having more cheaters then 3, but 3 was still bad in the beginning, so i left Halo3 for Call of Duty4. I just felt it was a much more polished game then Halo. Also, I found more older/adult individuals playing CoD4 at the time, so I never went back to Halo, even after the free map packs dropped. I downloaded them too, just never played them. Good call about muting the obnoxious ones, I just don't like going doing it mid game and standing idle while i do and possibly being shot, though the converse is to put up with it until you are dead. Either way. Its a great game, but other FPS's came out and it got buried for me.

Go to 2ksports.com. Got to the 2ksports forum for NBA 2K9 and they have a promo code for like $10 off the game. I think they're already doing it at GameStop but just to be sure you could check there. Great game but the only thing is that the online can be very temperamental. Even with the patch they released there are still lingering problems. Definitely don't pay retail for it but it is a good game otherwise.

The Rock Band/ Guitar Hero games are fun as hell and I would recommend them to anyone if you think you would even be slightly interested. More expensive then a normal game sure, but worth it.
Most of my favorites have already been mentioned:
Elder Scrolls IV - Not for everyone, it's an incredibly deep, complex game with a million things to do. Very fun though.
Fallout 3 - Similar to Elder Scrolls (made by the same company) but seems a little less complicated (a good thing for most people). Another great RPG.
GTA IV - I only played through it once but the story is great and there's a lot to do. The in game world is incredibly detailed. Multiplayer is a lot of fun too.
The Orange Box - I dont know if any one mentioned this. It's Half Life 2, plus the first two new HL2 "episodes." Also includes a brilliant little game called Portal and the multiplayer game Team Fortress 2. The Half Life games are absolutely amazing and Portal, while short, is worth owning all by itself. IMO, this is a must have for any fan of shooters (or good games in general).
Soul Calibur IV - A fun fighting game with Yoda in it. The story mode is mediocre compared to its predecessors, but if you like fighting games this is a good one.
Bioshock - Only played this through once, but it was a lot of fun.
Gears of War 2 - Both Gears 1 and 2 are great, I'm alreayd looking forward to the next one. The gameplay is unique and excellent, the campaign mode is solid, and multiplayer is blast. Horde mode, a new feature in Gears 2, is probably the best addition to the sequal and gets very addicting.
As far as Sports games go... I've been disappointed in Madden since it made the switch the next gen systems, but the Madden 09 version isnt bad. Personally I always have more fun playing FIFA 09. The new version is probably the best one to date, but if you arent a fan of soccer games that probably won't do much for you.

As previously mentioned Soulcalibur IV is also a good one. It looks really good in HD. It's a little easy though, but worthwhile.
Ninja Gaiden II also offers visceral thrills. Defenitely one of the bloodiest dismembering games out there. Good challenge level and also looks great.
And I'm personally stoked for Feb. 17- Street Fighter IV. Although it does look like Super Street Fighter II HD remix will satisfy until it comes out and then some.

Horde mode is probably the most fun I've had gaming in a few years. Me and my 13 year old son will play it for hours. It's kind of amazing how intelligent the bots seem to be compared to older games.

NHL 09- ridiculously awesome.
NCAA Football 09- been playing the NCAA series since I was a kid.

:applause: Says it all right there. I feel the exact same way. Halo 2 was amazing online even with all of the problems but Halo 3 just didnt seem to have what halo 2 did online. I left and got COD4 which I think everyone should have, I have grown to really enjoy CODWAW and suggest that too.
I really think you should go back and buy Left 4 Dead and play it online. Old school games like Oblivion and Fight Night are good and you can get Bad Company now for like 20 bucks.

The key to playing Horde is to use the Hail map and hide in the railroad cars. :) Pretty much nothing big can get in there with you. There's ammo that keeps respawning right next to the end cars.

There was an Inside Xbox video on the dash that showed you what to do. Walk up behind the witch with a shotty, wait for her to stand up, aim a little below her head(the base of her neck) and bingo.
*oh yeah, I forgot: flashlight off.

I play a lot of Halo 3. I'm not the greatest player but I can hold my own against most people. It's a fun game for me to just get a whole bunch of friends over and just spend all night playing. Other than that the CoD games (4 and WaW) are great.
Gears of War never really caught on for me though. I just don't like the gameplay style and I hated playing it online with my friend. Just overall a disappointment for me after all the hype that came with it.
And of Course Madden and NCAA football get regular rotation for me. Don't have 09 for either series yet tho. Is there really that much of a difference from last year to this year's game?

NHL 09 is pretty damn good. too bad Karl Alzner and Simeon Varlamov don't even exist in that game, though
Have you downloaded the rosters? They put Alzner on it. Updated the AHL team with Osala, Perreault and Bouchard.
Varlamov is on a Russian league team, look through them. Don't remember which one it is but he's there. You can transfer him onto the AHL or NHL rosters.
For the OP, I'd recomend:
1. NHL 09: if you like hockey or remotely have an interest in it
2. Call of Duty, World at War: decent story mode but online is fun as hell
3. Mass Effect: really cool story and a fun RPG to play.
4. Splinter Cell, Double Agent: Stealth based game. Really cool story where you work as a double agent to rid of a terrorist organization. The sequel that's gonna come out seems really good too so check this one out.

I would have sworn I got the latest update and I didn't see Alzner on there. I guess I never did look for Varlamov on a Russian team. I'll have to look into that.
edit: and as for Splinter Cell: Conviction, I'm starting to doubt that's ever gonna come out! how long's it been since DA came out?
also anyone interested in splinter cell should play the original 3 first.

I just got my 360 a few weeks ago and I love COD4. Multiplayer is a lot of fun. I'm a claymore settin' fool. I love blowing people up with those. It's so satisfying to run around and all of a sudden see a +5 pop up.
I also have Gears of War which I found to be meh, and Bioshock, which is dripping with atmosphere. I'd recommend Bioshock if you don't mind not getting any online play out of a FPS.

Love using claymores in free for all, if you get a good building to camp in you can peg guys all game long with those as your guards. They also serve as good warning devices, because even if they don't die, you hear the beep.
I stopped using them because I usually only play domination now. Takes too much time to set them up. The time I spend planting them can be spent running around killing people. I use the 3 flash grenade perk before I get the 3 frags at level 41. My gamertag is privatepile3092 if you want to kick some butt in domination.

Is NHL 09 really that good? Ive never really played hockey games, but I've gotten big time into the Caps the past couple of years and it seems like it could be fun. I think the last hockey game I played was the '97 version of something.

Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion - The most in-depth RPG I've ever played. Not only is the main quest amazing with an interesting story and fun missions, this game has enough side quests and faction quests to be a full game by itself. You can easily put 100 hours into this game and come nowhere close to doing everything you can do.
Fallout 3: Made by the same game company who made Oblivion, Fallout 3 is an amazingly fun game set in D.C. after nuclear war. It's very similar to Oblivion, but Fallout is a bit more simplistic. However, doesn't have as many sidequests as Oblivion does. Then again, I don't think any game does.
Mass Effect: Another RPG with fun gameplay. The main quest has one, if not best, storylines I've played in any game. RPG or not. The sidequests aren't as in-depth as one might like, but they definitely make do and round out a great game.
Guitar Hero WT: An excellent game with excellent songs that are fun to play. The game has a lot of fun songs for each instrument and balances out good Modern Rock songs (Everlong, Beautiful Disaster, Float On) Classic Rock songs (Purple Haze, Hotel California, Hot for Teacher) and Metal (Trapped Under Ice, Crazy Train, Mr. Crowley).
Gears of War 2: An awesome game that's just flat out fun to play. Horde mode, as already mentioned, is really fun, and rounds things out with a fun storyline and great characters.

Okay, I went through the rosters again and still couldn't find Alzner or Varlamov. I found two OTHER Varlamovs in the russian league, but not our Varlamov. Either I don't know how to use roster updates, or I'm lost.

So much time put in to COD 4, I can't bring myself to start all the way over for what sounds like the same game with a few switcharoos. Do the WAW weapons have the same characteristics as the weapons in COD 4?
It makes no sense to me.
Why downgrade from modern weapons to WWII weapons and expect to have more fun? Otherwise, if the weapons are just as effective as the ones in COD 4, then they are BS'ing how the weapons really acted back then. I know it's a video game but what's next? Using miniguns in a Civil War game?
Actually, that would be pretty awesome.

Anyone know if you can use a unused Xbox Live card from the old system on the 360? I have a 12 month one that I never used and just got a 360 for Xmas and was hoping to get a free year, so to speak...

All you have to do is log on and enter the password since the silver pass is free. If it works then you're good to go. I've seen many others use old Xbox cards that work on the 360 so I don't really see a problem.

Thanks. I got one month free when I setup last night (I assume that is standard). Should I wait til it expires or will adding the extra 12 months add it on to the end?
So lost when it comes to this 360 stuff (and paying for online service).

It stacks so try the card. You sure you have the gold? Have you tried playing games online with people?

Eh, it's not so bad really. Techninally I'm only paying about $2.34 a month thanks to the Walmart deal and I spend more than that in a day.

Meh, I have no idea. I guess I will see when I try to play something online (is Gold the only one that allows that?).
Thanks - will try to add the 12 months tonight. We'll see what happens.
I do know that Best Buy is currently offering the 12 month card for 24.99 if you buy it with a controller. And they have a controller that comes with a free game (the Viva Pinata sequel) for $49.99.

I'll look for you. My tag is SubliminalEfx. I've never tried Domination, just Hardcore TDM and Free For All. I'll give Domination a go though.
I just recently got the Dead Silent perk. Man! Nothing like being able to run around and knife fools while they're crouching somewhere in a corner because they can't hear you coming and don't see you. My knife kill rate has skyrocketed! That perk is effing awesome.
