Anyone seen this movie? Went to see it in old town last week. Probably not the most highly touted movie but Frank Langella was outstanding as Richard Nixon. It's a story about a struggling TV personality/media type who miraculously gets an interview with Nixon in a desperate attempt to jump start his career. Nixon and his team select this guy because he's not a real reporter and Nixon can walk all over him, and he does. It's a true story although I'm not sure exactly to what extent.
Anyway, great acting is hard to come by IMO, and everyone in this movie fits that description. And it's not another Nixon-bashing holywood circle jerk. You actually come away from the movie liking Nixon, and appreciating his political skill and charm, and yet the facts of the watergate scandel are not glossed over.
This movie is not up everyone's alley but if you are into history and politics and you appreciate a great performance, you will not be disappointed.

In a previous thread i read some of it is made up for dramatic effect.
Probably the parts that play every 30 minutes on T.V.

I thought it was a well done movie and much more fun than a movie with that title deserved to be.
On Thiebear's point, I couldn't help wondering when they went to the inteview itself, if they used the transcript from the actual interviews or if they paraphrased them... especially at the "You can't handle the truth" moment (they didn't say that line, but boy did it have that feel)

I thought it was just alright (and I love political/historical movies). It was a little over rated though, IMO. If i were to rate it, I'd give it 6 or a 7 out of 10.

Haven't seen it, but the interview was famous because that was where Nixon said "If the president does it, then it's not illegal".
Not sure what else came out of it or how much of the interview is true - but I know that part happened.

I had heard that Langella was excellent in this movie, and I have a hard time wrapping my head around it. I am sure he does, he's just not someone I'd expect it out of.

I know. He's had some really cheesy roles over the years but this one fits like a glove.

rottontomatoes gives it a good score so that is good enough for me to see it.
i can get past the subliminal messages and just relax and enjoy...

Langella was/is a great theatrical actor. He's done some pretty wonderful stuff over the years on Broadway. He does not have a face for the big screen though and I think that has hurt him in casting.
