Anyone else going to see Metallica at the Verizon Center? Got my tickets and free CD back in November. So stoked to see them again. I haven't seen them since the Black album.

Looking at the set list and I am pretty damn happy. Not one St Anger song played recently. Alot of old classics, deep cuts / Garage Days and a few off the new album.

Can't wait to raise some horns to some Metal!

Metallica is one of those bands that no matter how bad their new music may be(for the record, I'm not a huge fan of Death Magnetic, but do think its a step up from their past few albums), they can still put on a hell of a performance. I haven't seen them live in person, but of all the footage I've seen, it seems to be a hell of an experience since they play a lot of their good (older) stuff. They can certainly still rock.

No, I'm not going, but I would love to see them.

Enjoy the show. I'd be pumped too!

Death Magnetic Definitely takes some listening to. But it is 2000% better than St. Anger.
But I know exactly what you are saying.

Will be interesting to see them in the round as well.

Out of the 11 times I have seen them, I walked away disappointed only 1 time.

They've never forgotten that they had to generate their initial success by touring their asses off and neither have their true fans.

I've only seen Metallica twice, but one of them was part of the greatest concert I've ever been to in my life, Lollapalooza 1996 at Charles Town Raceway. What a lineup that was, and there were even a few second stage bands that wound up becoming well known.

I was there! Metallica/Soundgarden split bill!

Me and a buddy raced thru the horse gates and made a mad dash for the main stage. I found a little nook right up front and stayed there the whole time.

It was nuts! They were spraying us down with fire hoses from the front and people were throwing water bottles to us from the back of the crowd.

That was my 11th time seeing them, saw them once more at FedEx for the something-something tour a few years ago. When they first got Robert Trujillo (sp?). We left early, they sounded terrible.

Hope they rock the house for ya! They have 11 of the 12 times I saw them so odds are pretty good!

Were you there for the entire day? I still remember that lineup like it was yesterday.

Psychotica
Screaming Trees
Shaolin Monks
Rancid
Wu-Tang Clan
The Ramones
Soundgarden
Metallica

Except for Wu-Tang (and Psychotica was lame too) this was a great day. Ben Folds Five was on the 2nd stage before they got famous, and one other band whose name I can't remember, just that they got on the radio years later.

We were there start to finish! dude from Psychotica had to have been miserable in that silver latex. I'm not a huge fan of Wu-Tang but it's nice to be able to say I saw them, other than that couldnt care one way or the other. Never made it to any of the side stages. There was one band other than Ben Folds that my friend was screaming about the whole ride home but I cant recall the name.

I have been to hundreds of shows over the years and this was one of the best I have ever seen. Would say in the top 3 of shows that I have seen from the front and top 6 of shows overall.

edit: Just looked up the indie stage line-up, iirc he was talking baout Beth Hart Band. Though it could have very well been Ben Folds Five.

Yeah, man, I remember when he came in hanging on that rotating cross...just thinking WTF is this guy? That was a sweet, sweet concert.

Where did you find the lineup for the 2nd/3rd stages...I'd like to look at it and see what I remember.

2nd/3rd Stahe Line-ups (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Lollapalooza_lineups_by_year#1996)

I remember at the end of the set when the guitar player jumped in to the drums and knocked the drummer off the riser..... the drummer was pissed!

<sigh>

I work just a few blocks away, but I just can't muster up the ambition to go down there in the cold and find tickets.

Damn I'm getting old....

I slept when they went on sale (I think I was at a Terps game or something that Sat) and by the time I logged on, the floor tix were gone. I figured I'd just buy a bleeder a few weeks later down the line....then they sold out! DAMN!

Have fun if you're going. I'll never forget when I saw them like 14 years ago or so at the old Caps Centre...er..Us Air Arena.

Today I bought tickets to see Dennis Leary live. I also bought tickets to see Sevendust and Black Label Society today. I've seen Metallica 6 times live and never disapointed. Have fun!

I got one of the picks you're talking about, The-Rock, I'm so happy. The guy right in front of me got Lars' last drum stick because he had a Metallica tatoo.

The white ones? I almost caught one of Kirk's which were those cool ass green ones too. I guess if you almost got the last drum stick you were near the entrance way for the floor. i was at center stage on the opposite side from that.

When they went into Four Horsemen it was just like AHHHHHHHHHH headbang time!!!

I was down on the floor with my black Taylor jersey on.

I got a ball and one of Kirk's picks!

Did a little moshing (nothing like the old days, I'm getting old)

Good concert.

Definitely was a great show! They still have it for sure. Was cool seeing them playing with alot of energy.

The crowd was VERY loud too, was great!

I was up in the club level right below the boxes. Missed on the fun on the floor. Though I had a little fun when I snuck into the empty box behind us. Didn't get caught until about 20 minutes and that was from trying to get other below me to join! :)
