So this isn't news or anything. But as someone who has never seen him play aside from occasional highlights, can someone explain to me why isn't he going pro?

Because he wouldnt go in the first round. He is on the short list of greatest college qb's ever, but he's not all that accurate, runs a single wing instead of a pro set, and isnt going to be running people over in the pros.
The bigger news is that Sam Bradford is staying, he would have been a high first rounder.

second round at best
He is on the short list of greatest college qb's ever
I'd rephrase that to "on of the top 10 best college football players ever"
, but he's not all that accurate
he actually is pretty accurate, he doesn't have a very quick release though.
runs a single wing instead of a pro set, and isn't going to be running people over in the pros.
the offense definitely puts him behind the power curve, but I think he could eventually be a successful NFL QB if he is put in the right situation. I think he could run people over in the pros, but not as consistent as in college.
The bigger news is that Sam Bradford is staying, he would have been a high first rounder.
Matthew Stafford needs to write him a thank-you letter for going back to school, because if Bradford would have come out, he would have been the 1st QB taken. Bradford saved Stafford mucho dinero!

Ok, so he's not a first rounder right now. Is the thinking that he can improve his accuracy by next year? Is UF going to run anything different offensively to raise his stock? Or like finkle pointed out, is he just after another championship?

like I said before, he is very accurate, he doesn't make too many mistakes (only had 4 INTs all year including the two in the NC. He also rebounds well from his mistakes and doesn't let 2 INTs tear him down (see NC)
His biggest problems are that he doesn't play in a pro style offense (so no one can really know what he will be able to do in one)
another one is his release....it could be quicker.
Tebow isn't given a lot of freedom to read defenses and audible in and out of plays. Those changes come from the sideline.
Tebow has gotten better every year as a passer, so in his sr. season he could develop into an even better passer. OR being that this year is a weak year for QB in the draft, he might have just hurt himself by staying.
I look at it as going out and having fun. Judging by his character, I don't think he is driven by money (so that didn't play a huge role) He wants to come back to UF, have fun, and win another championship.

The focus is likely going to be on him even more now that Harvin is going pro.

Honestly, He didn't go pro because he doesn't seem like the person that would leave his teams to get the big bucks. I figured he would play until he graduated.

losing louis murphy was pretty big too, but with riley cooper, Jeff Demps, Chris Rainey, and Brandon James coming back I think UF will be just fine. Now if only Cornilious Ingram was granted an extra year of eligibility (injury) and came back, that would be icing on the cake.

Him staying is only gonna put Florida as favorites in the preseason in the eyes of the media. He won't be an NFL QB nor a 1st round pick

lol, everybody says that, but I'm pretty sure he will have a decent career as an NFL QB.

lol, everybody says that, but I'm pretty sure he will have a decent career as an NFL QB. I'm pretty sure he won't. Meyer's system is horrible for producing a real NFL QB.
From the lack of pre-snap audibles, to the extremely limited route tree the receivers run, to all of the motion used to open up plays that obviously would not work in the NFL...Tebow would be lucky to be mediocre as an NFL QB.

If he has the physical tools and the brain, I think then NFL coaches might be able to teach him to play QB. So many QBs from small schools make it in the NFL. Nothing can really prepare you, IMO, for the speed and complexity of pro defenses anyway. Or they might just convert him to tight end or something.
