Your Cowboys are the NFL's laughingstock these days.
Folks chuckle at the notion of the team plane regularly leaving late for games because players were tardy – no matter how desperately the Cowboys try to spin it by blaming weather or mechanical issues. They laugh at the absurdity of players who earn eight-digit signing bonuses being fined $100 for being late to meetings or missing treatment sessions.
Ridiculous.
These days, the owner is a joke. So is the coach. We all know the team is a joke, after its annual December collapse culminated with a pathetic performance in a 44-6 loss to Philadelphia.
It doesn't have to be this way forever. Obviously, the Cowboys could make some stunning off-season moves to create a change in culture that will ultimately lead to success.
They've done it before.
After all, they were a joke when Jerry arrived in 1989, and they were a joke in 2003, when Bill Parcells showed up.
After six seasons of winning football games at a .565 clip and making three playoff appearances – no wins, though – and capturing one NFC East title, your Cowboys are a joke again.
Now, they won't like that characterization. They'll fume. So be it. Occasionally, the truth hurts.
But if Jerry is mad, then he should be angry at himself for putting this collection of ill-fitting, underachieving parts together. Or for allowing Tony Sparano to leave for South Beach without recognizing his talent as a head coach. Or for a group of faux stars who led the league in penalties and ranked near the top in turnovers.
Bottom line: Jerry is a bigger problem than Phillips.
Much bigger.
I don't know if it's pride, ego or stubbornness. Perhaps it's a combination of all three, but Jerry just finds it impossible to let the coach run the team.
He's always interfering. Of course, he'll talk about how it's impossible to interfere, considering he's writing the checks and taking the risk.
Whatever.
Jerry has undermined Phillips almost since the day he arrived, starting with hiring assistant coaches such as John Garrett and Hudson Houck, who had considerably more loyalty to Jason Garrett than Phillips.
Phillips acquiesced every step of the way, so shed no tears for him. But when Phillips, as soft as they come, asked Jerry to increase the fine system after the owner reduced them from as much as $12,000 for missing treatments to $100, Jerry should have known the players were out of control.
Are you surprised? The Robert Graham shirts some players wear cost twice as much as their fines.
Jerry, bless his heart, doesn't want to talk about anything of substance right now. T.O.'s status? Nope. What about Garrett? Nope. Phillips? Nope again.
Jerry, the most accessible owner in sports, is speechless. Who would've guessed that?
His silence, on these subjects, is deafening. Maybe he worries about his words being taken out of context or he'll say the wrong thing.
Jerry has never worried about perception or he never would've made all of those sponsorship deals that put millions in his pockets while angering NFL officials. He never would've signed T.O. over Bill Parcells' objections or acquired Adam Jones.
Then again, it has been awhile since the Cowboys were a joke.
It has been 12 seasons since the Cowboys celebrated a playoff win, the longest drought in franchise history, and the burden becomes heavier each off-season as does the humiliation.
The franchise is in shambles. It lacks discipline and leadership. The players do as they please. Accountability is a dirty word. Leadership in the front office and locker room is non-existent.
And Jerry wonders why we consider these Cowboys a joke.

You watch.

Good post Mr. ATN. Unfortunately the Skins and Cowboys troubles seem to be the same. Both coaches will continue to struggle in these situations until the front offices improve.

:wtf: are you serious?
The Skins have issues, but a lack of discipline, and a locker room of me first prima-donnas isn't one of them.
and Snyder isn't an ego driven "look at me on TV" owner, GM, Coach, trainer, ball boy

Agreed
To paint the redskins with the same broad brush is unfair

Let's try to remain on topic.
But, let me say, when Dan shows up on TV as much as Jerruh and plays catch with JC to evaluate his ability to play, let me know.

If they are a Super Bowl favorite next year I will **** my pants. I will admit that team has talent but to continue to pick a team as a favorite to win a super bowl when they cant even win a ****ing playoff games is insane.

We have the same issues but to a much smaller degree. I would argue that our locker room may not be full of prima donnas, but that we have a couple that hurt the locker room and that there is some lack of discipline. Most of that lies in a rookie HC earning his respect. I assume he can get that under control next year.
Snyder is totally ego driven in my mind, he just isn't as public about it. He is a Fantasy Football Owner/GM...only difference is he has his own ball boy/lap dog.
We may not be in the exact same boat as the Cowboys, but we're on a similar course to nowhere.:(

They don't want to hear that. I have trouble making fun of another team when my team is pretty much in the same boat. We had a chance to bury that team on national TV at home and as usual, we dropped the ball.

I totally disagree. the only outspoken player has been CP, but his play, and dedication makes him a team guy... besides Zorn had no problems getting in his face when needed. Nor has Zorn had any prtoblems handling/sitting anyone from Jansen to the rookies
Snyder is totally ego driven in my mind, he just isn't as public about it. He is a Fantasy Football Owner/GM...only difference is he has his own ball boy/lap dog.
Bull ****, 2000 was almost a decade ago. Gibbs as well as others confirmed Snyder has no hand in personnel matters other than signing the checks. Snyder also stays out of the limelight, allowing the coaches be the voice of the team. and he does not undermine his coaches, with the players or in the media, nor try to be the coach like Jerrah. Character is the top of the list in players we go after.... we don't have any TO, Pacman, Tank Johnson guys on the roster.
We may not be in the exact same boat as the Cowboys, but we're on a similar course to nowhere.:(
again Bull **** we are nothing like te drama circus that's in Dallas. While the Pokes are imploding, we are trying to rebuild, and grow with Zorn

 again bull ****
we have issues, but nothing like what's going on in Dallas.... we weren't 13-3 last year and everyones pick to go to the Super Bowl, in fact most felt e wouldn't reach 500, under a new HC, and instilling a new system

Jeezus...losing a game and having your entire organization implode are NOT the same thing. We did the former. The Cowboys did the latter.

I agree with Bubba and Cali on this one, the two teams have their issues, however those issues are not alike or tied in anyway to eachother or even simular!
The issue surrounding the Wad/Jerry/TO and the Cowboys is far more serious then the ones surrounding Zorn/Vinny C Dan Snyder and the Skins.......I hate to see the Boys in this position...I love em through it all, but i do not have to like whats going on.

I wouldn't like being 'boys fan either. As far as issues go, you guys certainly have it bad. I used to have a laugh watching you guys fail. When Romo dropped that snap in Seattle, It was a laugh riot. When he threw that int. to the Giants it was a gas. I don't get that same pleasure anymore and it's not because your team doesn't provide the material.
Anyways, I still stand by my feeling that we have a similar problem here, just to a smaller degree like I said. I still feel Like Danny meddles, and there was more than plenty of talk about Zorn losing the locker room. Whether that's all made up or not, I dunno, like I said, it's up to them to prove me wrong. What I'm not going to do anymore is live in the past, or point out other teams short comings, it doesn't help me get through the disappointment anymore.

true, I still Laugh my ass off at the Skins for 6-2 to 2-6....the thing i am saying and (i think) Bubba is saying, is that they both are in different situations in this deal, with the Skins at the very least looking upward while the Cowboys have their ****ing eyes closed!

Despite any differences, in the end the bottom line for both is the same - both franchises are mired in mediocrity, the 'Skins a little longer than the Turds.

I can understand that, but to me, I need proof we are looking upward, and only results will do that for me, not hearsay and conjuncture.

Which rule did I break when I responded to that post? Billy Kilmer responded to it as well, you going to remind him of the rules?
Anyways, I think I did a decent job of following up my sentiments and tying that into how I feel about both teams. I guess you can report it to the mods. I won't have any problems explaining myself to them.

Who brought the Skins into the conversation when the subject is the pukes? Bubba? BK?
This was an article written in pukeville by a puke columnist.
You bashing the Skins here is about as relevant as beating up the Lions.
There's no need to hijack this thread to degrade the Skins. Start one in the Stadium.
Just don't take a crap in this thread and think you're entitled to do so.

Sorry if you feel that way, but that's not my MO. I will however state my feelings on something If I feel they are pertinent to the conversation. I'm not going out of my way to bash the skins in every thread and every chance I get. If you want to compare me to a cowboys fan, that's your prerogative. If you look at the second thread I ever even started on this board, I think you will find that you didn't think of me that way then.
You don't have to like my position, but I'll be damned if I'm going to be bullied out of stating it in a thread where I deem it reasonable to the conversation at hand.

I continue to not quite understand why bashing the pukes requires any reference to the Skins.
I rarely start 'analogy' threads...though I'm quite willing to participate in them if these guys want to start some...

Jerry was the one that was late, as Parcells did pull out and took off for Miami with Sparano in tow.
